Hi, i`ve come across a real gem of a montesa 247, its been sat in a garage since 82 and is totally original although a little rusty in places and the seat has dried and split. Unfortunately the rear guard snapped at some point but I do have the part to piece it. Its road reg and still has the rob edwards stickers on the tank. Trouble is I cant get the thing to start. I`ve done everything I already know it will need. I emptied the tank and filled with fresh premix fuel. Ive checked the points and timing (.40mm gap and opening at 2.5mm btdc). the spark is blue and strong. I`ve completely stripped and cleaned the carb, the choke jet was blocked solid, the main wasnt much b…

Hi all, Just curious if anyone knew what the carb on the KT250s was. I believe from the bit of Googling that I've done, its a VM26. Is that correct? I keep debating on whether I want to buy a new one or not. B&J sell one that's prejetted and includes a new throttle, but its a little bit expensive at $190. Having said that, I would be able to gain from their expertise and would be getting more than just a carb and throttle. At the same time, mine should run well once I get it cleaned, but I'd like to have a backup just in case. This thing is 40 years old... haha! I'm also thinking I'm going to need to order at least a new bowl gasket for my existing carb, whic…

Can anyone tell me the correct ohms reading on my '67 T20M ignition coil? I read 1.8 ohms from ground to input lead on the secondary. (all wires disconnected). Also I would like the reading from the 5 alternator wires. I have a black/white, black/yellow, brown, brown/blue and red. I get now spark at the plug. My bike has side points and no battery. I have a repair book but it is no help. Being a positive ground system, will any other single coil work? I want to keep the stock ignition system because my bike is street legal. Thanks,

After 20 years out of trials, I treated myself to a 2004 Beta to see if I could still complete. Have loved practicing the last 9 months (as well as tinkering with the bike) and have completed in two events. The last one was Border Classics event 2 weeks ago, where I was bitten by the twin shock bug! Seeing all of the old bikes I use to compete on got me thinking...... So Ive managed to source a Fantic 240 (the last bike I rode competetively). Has been in my mums garage for 3 years (a mate of my brothers). It has not been ran but does kick over. Only obvious issue is that the front forks are stuck, apart from that just needs a damm good clean. Paid

I need to paint two Cota 247 bodies. I have done it in the past but results were mixed. I want to do this right and finish off with a very hard, fuel proof, KBS Diamond clear coat. But before I get their I need to use the right pre-coat and top coat. I would appreciate suggestions for both pre-coat that will give me a well attached base that I can sand to a good finish and then a sound top coat.

Hi. Advice please. I’ve repaired my gear selector cover on my TY175. All back together again and now I cannot select any gears. It’s as if the selector forks inside the engine are jammed or not moving and won’t move the pinions. After much huffing and puffing I took the clutch off to see the shifter assembly on the end of the gear shaft. The hooks don’t appear to engage with the pinned drum and hence won’t move anything. I tried to rotate the pinned drum manually but it seems to be locked solid. Any ideas?

The Mont 348 I have recently purchased has Air forks on the front and I assume an after market set of Betor Gas shocks on the rear. As the bike is in very good condition, I have no reason to go playing around with these from a maintenance view point but it would be useful to know the following: 1) What is the basic construction of these - I assume it is still oil filed with additional dampening being delivered by air pressure 2) How do people use the air element to set their shocks and forks up Rob

To finish my rebuild i need the 2 thrust washers that sit behind the clutch basket. I have contacted BVM in Stroud but the parts have come up as NLA. I do not have the originals so can some one tell me the dimensions of these 2 washers? Cheers John

Hello to all, Not sure where to ask this question, though twinshock seems to be the obvious place. I have an old Yam TY250 Twinshock, it`s not run since 1992. I started it as a project something to tinker with, put it to the back the shed and now I wish to have a play on it. I took the somewhat knackered chain off and i`ve thown it away without counting how many links that I need to replace it. 520 is what was on it, how many links do you think i`ll need...? Reading through a lot of posts i`ll not be buying Iris as it seems they snap, any other suggestion would be welcome. Circlip

I am struggling with gear selection and wonder if the "spidery washer on the cam assembly is in the correct position. Also is there a setting for the selector arms? (second pic) Ignore lack of circlips as just put on for pic.

Hi All Hope I can pick some brains on here. I've just finished rebuilding an '83 MH349 and am now in the process of "shaking it down" in preparation for my glittering career in twinshock trials (maybe). I come from a motocross / enduro background and have no experience of trials bikes, but one thing I've noticed is the bike is really noisy. I don't have access to a DB meter, but I'd reckon it's as noisy as a loud 2 stroke motocrosser. It's got a brand new WES tail pipe from InMotion on it, mated to the original front pipe. It's not leaking anywhere and the WES silencer has got packing in it. Bizarrely, the noise seems to be coming from the front "expa…
