Twinshock

I finally have the restoration done on my '76 KT 250. Got it started and finally found the right combination of carb settings so it will idel smoothly. However, without any warning the engine starts running wide open. The only way I can make it stop is pull the spark plug and cut off the gas. It does it at irregular intervals, when it is restarted it runs fine for a while then goes wild. Needless to say, this makes it difficult to ride sections. I have checked the following, throttle cable- no kinks, no burrs, it does not drag or bind; throttle assem.- it works fine does not stick, opens and closes easily; slide moves freely in the carb body and when it runs wild …

What would be the best bang for the buck? I have a ty250A It has about 40% Michelin x11 trials tires and stock shocks. Would I be better off with new Betors or comparable shocks or a new set of sticky Michelins or IRC'S.I ride mostly rock.

Planning buying a set of 14" (360mm betors) there was someone selling these regularly on Ebay (a business) - anyone know who it was?

Would like to get my second twinshock and need your advice on this one. I would like to get something to do a full restore on and have a few favorites. I love all Bultaco,s for their looks ! another favorite is the Ossa in Orange i think it,s the TR80 model or a 349 Montesa would be nice too Maybe even a 4-stroke Honda all of them are great bikes i would like to hear your choice and why please. Most twinshock trials bikes have non-parrellel triple clamps, with the forks kicked out about 1.5degrees more than the steering stem rake. Can anybody tell me what the advantage is of this set-up (over parrallel triples)? I've read that they're supposed to be better at/near full-lock, but I don't know if thats correct or why/why-not. Can anyone enlighten us?

hello there i was just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on wether petrol has changed over the years ( apart from the cost!! ) , a lot of people seem to have problems with carburation on older machines a mechanic told me that petrol has changed , so that settings on carbs ect maybe different. it could be worth bearing in mind when setting up carbs as i am right now. thanks .

I scored a BSA Victor with a B250 motor and figured I would build a trials bike out of it. I brought the head angle in, brought down the upper shock mounts etc. i am up to the point to set steering stops. My forks (old betor) have 70mm offset and my tank is really narrow. Would 90* be a good point to set stops? I can make thicker bumpers later. thanks. Frank

Taking my ty175 for an MOT Wednsday, it's been a while, but from what I can recall you need: Chain Guard Cont Sounding Horn And a Speedo Right??? Now I've got no Speedo so I've gone off and bought a cycle speedo, a wireless type, looks quite good and it works........ but will it be enough to pass?? Has anybody else 'got away' with a cycle speedo? Cheers

I did a search and some reading. There were some posts discussing using modern tubeless tires on vintage bikes / rims and how some owners have had issues with the tire dropping off the bead at the low pressures normal run. My 73 OSSA has an Akront rear rim. Unfortunately, probably on account of the slight ding in the rim from the previous owner, my Dunlop D803GP tire is dropping off the rims bead area. The oem Akront rear is a 1.85 width. Dunlop is suggesting a 2.15 width. I purchased a used OSSA wheel assembly from a different model than the MAR and unknowingly, it had the 2.15 wide rim. Sorry to be back on this hobby horse of WES exhausts for Bultaco Sherpa-Ts but I really remain incredulous that WES doesn't have even a rear exhaust for the world's most popular vintage trials bike. I recently sent an email to Bob Ginder at B&J in the USA who apparently have some business relationship with WES. Bob tells me that WES told him that they don't get many requests for exhausts for Bultaco Sherpa Ts. and thats why they are not in the catalogue. I find that absolutely fascinating. Hi i have a problem with an irc tyre on a fantic wheel.I fitted the tube type tyre just after buying the bike ,the problem is that the tyre turns on the rim i have tried new tyre clamps but it is still the same.I have another bike with fantic wheel and irc with no problems so not sure if it could be worn rim or faulty tyre.Has anyone had this problem with irc tyres.

Hi all It was raining tonight so i took my bike down the woods - as i knew there wouldnt be many kids/dogs about. I started it up- put it in gear and let out the clutch. The bike went backwards. I put it back into neutral and tried again and it went backwards again. i thought great a TY175 WITH REVERSE! 2 more shots and the bike went forward. I was out for over an hour and the gearbox and everything else seems fine now. Has this happened to anyone else before. Is my gearbox about to crash Thanks William

After a long lay off I've come back to trials and realised that at 40 years of age club level expert route is doable just not enjoyable for me (some sections a bit dodgy for my age!!) where I am from the expert class is a big jump up from Clubman so riding a modern bike at Clubman level isn't very challenging, I've bought a very nice Fantic 240 to ride at clubman level so trying to get it as competitive as possible, what's the best rear shocks on the market and where can I get them from?

A bit of advice or your views needed I have a 1982 Godden framed Majesty 175, which I fancy riding in a Twinshock classes at club Trials and maybe progressing further if I like it or my results are good enough. The bike is mechanically very sound and everything works fine,with all maintenance up to date with everything replaced as necessary. I've never trialled it, just ridden a few times at a practice ground. Visit My Website I have had an engine,that looks the same as the one in the picture in my garage for many years.The other day I decided to give it a clean and see exactly what it is from.The only markings on the engine are G-B on the top of the left hand crankcase.I was just wondering if it is anything more exciting than a standard KT engine.

Ok I have started to strip my mh349 down and assess whats required, I have owned this bike from new and used it for trials and for general nobbing about the countryside. I has seen little use in the last 15 years apart from a handfull of trials about 8 years ago. Its been buried in the shed since and has deteriated shamefully in that time. It still has the origional cables, front tyre, paint, chain and front sprocket the rear being changed from 33 to 38 tooth when only a few weeks old. I need a new rear tyre for my recently acquired TY175. Can I use a Michelin X Light... WITH an inner tube in it? Reduced unsprung weight being my objective you see, or am I going to get punctures constantly? ( I don't do much rocky stuff btw) Cheers Bill
