Hi chaps, when I bought the Cub (200cc, R cam, largely standard) I was advised that the Cotton PW22 carb went straight on and was positively the bees knees. So I bought one. It doesn't go straight on, I can find nothing on the internet about it and have had no response from the seller. Does anybody know anything about it? Does anybody know where to get a manifold to fit? Thanks chaps.

  5. Started by detective 21,

hoping for some input here guys, building a paul Jackson framed cub and struggling with the chain tensioner position, was hoping to get it tucked up behind the peg mount on the swing arm but the chain had clearance issues with the spring when the swingarm moved, I have tried a gasgas/universal/beta tensioners and all have issues mounting in this area, so I have now mounted one on the back of the peg mount, clearance with the chain is the best I have had it and as the swingarm moves the tensioner keeps tension. I like this position but are there any issues with doing it this way? I thought that because is it still mounted close to the pivot point of the swingarm the …

My 199 Cub is fitted with the R cam, it always has had this cam so I have no comparison but at a trial today I rode a 199cc Cub with similar engine set up to my bike but with the std Cub camshaft. Now I realise that bike set up is subjective and it could have been the 'new broom' thing but the std cam seemed to provide as much power at the bottom end but possibly a more controllable and steadier pick up. The R cam really makes the motor go once off tick over but having ridden the alternative set up I now am thinking might this be the way to go? In most trials you simply do not require loads of power, a smooth engine seems better so what cam is most widely used in the li…

Hello, I just bought a 1955 James Captain, it’s a surprise for my 84 year old Father he had one back in the day, I don’t pick it up til the weekend but I was hoping for some advice on a running issue that the current owner has mentioned, he said it starts easily and rides but won’t rev fully, I’m not that familiar with 2 strokes so thought I’d ask on here for any tips on where to start, thanks Mark.

  11. Started by eiger,

Just purchased yet another project off Ebay. It was described as an AJS/Matchless 350cc in trials trim for restoration. I my enthusiasm I can't wait for the reply from the owners club as I have applied for membership. So do any of you people have any information on the history of the bike and the availability of parts. There is no tank or seat, and no obvious sign of model number. The engine number starts with 14 CSR, the frame number is a five figure number starting with 13. There is also another number (casting number?) on the rear of the gearbox which is M1071. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Eiger.

  13. Looking for a few suggestions re the gearing for the James project. It's still in bits just bigger bits So as i havent run it yet i will be having to get some sprockets ordered from Talon. If you run a Greeves or James, Sprite etc what gearing do you use? I am using a std crank sprocket as the smaller ones need to have the crankcases modifying to get it to fit so really down to the gearbox and rear sprocket. I know it will need fine tuning and possible adjusting once i get it up and running, the B40 was the same just fitted a smaller rear sprocket to that as it was too low geared, just like to get it nearish as i cant aford to "waste" a rear sprocket by getting one t…

  16. Started by totalshell,

hopefully the answers will be an easy fix.. i have a steel tank that i want to use on my latest project. It has been in the garage for YEARS the fuel was all gummed up and the tank had some surface rust. On the inside it has surface rust i'e bathed and swilled it out with petroil several times and got tonnes of rust out i've flushed it out with a high pressure water jet and filled it with pebbles and shaken vigoursly and washed and flushed etc etc about 2 hours in all. its improving but theres still a away to go though the bits that have cleaned up are now bright and shiny.. anything else i can do or am i bought into repeating the above evry night for the winter?

  17. Hi guys, Please see images of my Cub casings.Just split the engine. The first casing shows an area milled out and a plate inserted with four Allen screws inserted. Is this the mod to allow access to the oil pump. You lads who know there stuff will probably recognise the model of engine but it’s a 1961 year model. The second casing, well, I’ll wait for some ideas, is it to allow the gearbox sprocket to be removed without having to break the motor. It’s a really poor fit. Thanks.

Hi, I've been riding twin shock since they were all there were, and more recently modern pogo sticks. I have decided that I need to get the cub I have squirreled away up and running. I know of companies such as Armac and upb, but names like Allan Witton and Max Heyes, Ray Small etc etc, keep cropping up here and there. Is there a place that I am missing? Where I can get contact details for these sort of people? Cheers Trev.
