Hi, anyone know of any very light oil l(5w) that's good for primary chain case lubricant. I have tried a mineral transmission fluid that was OK but did tend to let the plates slip after a short period which was noticeable on kick starting. I did wonder if Diesel oil would be any good?

Hi, After running my newly built Cub for around 8 hours, it has developed a pin hole in the new Vinylester petrol tank. I drain the fuel after every use but I noticed petrol dripping from a small (2mm diam) blister on the inside section near the bottom(where it hangs over the Oil in the frame top oil tank tube). I'm assuming it has a pin hole that has leaked into the gel coat causing the blister. To be honest, I have a feeling the blister was always there and I may have popped it whilst cleaning the tank! My thought is to buy some 2 part 'chemical metal' putty, gouge out the blister and make a small counter sunk hole, then slap the filler in the hole. I'm assuming po…

Good evening wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I have inherited a b40 off my father he took the clutch apart a few years back now. Could anyone please tell me the way the clutch plates go back in ie friction plate, steel plate, friction plate ect? And what oil and capacity should I use in the clutch/primary chain. Many thanks

well back from another great weekend and there is much to debate although not the topics most anticipated. the bbc weather forecast through the preceeding week was predicting rain all thursday/friday even the evening tv forecasts had graphic descriptions of the heavy rain/ windy conditions from very early in the week. travelling up on wednesday EVERY diigital traffic notice on the m74/8 had a simple message '' heavy rain forecast for friday throughout scotland'' thursday dawned damp and as we set off on the run rain gear went straight on . the rain continued for the entire day/ evening/night . i wouldnt describe it as heavy just persistant. friday had the rain fallin…

Still working on my 'new' 500 long stroke Ariel The carb is an Amal concentric 626 and it's worn. Specifically the slide is very worn with loads of movement in the bore but a new slide is very tight which suggests a poor / distorted body. The jetting is bushed pilot, 106 needle jet, 160 main jet, 3.5 slide. Now I could order a new carb with the same jetting but I think people are using 622 carbs these days to improve low speed running and control. If that is the case would I keep the same jetting and slide in the smaller carb or would I have to change it?

  14. Good day all, question for those in the know. I have obtained a 1964 D7 Bantam 3 speed engine in quite good condition. I have had a good look at it and think it could be worth converting to trials format. It already has in its favour a B175 barrel and head plus a modified clutch. However here are the first problems found which leads me to my questions. I would like to reduce Primary sprocket from 17 to 12 the same as my BB175. I have spoken to Rex Caunt Bantam specialist who informs me if I fit the smaller sprocket he supplies the primary chain will not line up. ? 2nd I would like to reduce the gear box sprocket ideally to 12 but the D7 has a seal housing which would not …

Dumb questions of the day coming up: What's the benefit of the square head/barrel combination on Villiers motors, I come up with weight and better cooling, but is there anything else ? Seems every Villiers bike tested in magazines has a different head/barrel combination so there's many different types: Parkinson, Alpha etc. So what works best for trials motors and why ? I remember that the 210 Karting lads used the round combo, not sure if they were alloy replicas. If anyone needed better cooling I thought it would be them. But looking at the various James bikes tested in: Trialsworld, Classic Dirtbike and YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON T…

Since my little chance meeting with a post at the Hanbury scramble I have a fair bit of spare time on my hands at the weekend, and no, this does not mean spending quality time with the wife christmas shopping. Was thinking about putting a BSA unit into a Bultaco or Fantic frame, so has anyone got any tips or pointers as to the best direction to take? Does anyone have any photos of similar projects? I simply want a build a cheap (ish) bike and ride in local trials, so not worried at all about eligibility etc for the flag ship events. If anyone has done this before and I'm sure people have, what makes the best combination in terms of frame and engine? Thanks in advance…
