I've been using a straight 40 oil from Morris for the engine, but it did take a long time to warm it up and get it moving round the engine given the very low temperatures at the weekend. Any advice on what I should change too given Jack Frost's appearance most mornings now. I have pre unit AMC lump...... Cheers

I did manage to hold off for 2 months before thinking about starting another :-) I fancy building a unit BSA, so what's the best frame to get? I'm not interested in making it eligible for the Scottish, I just want to build something to ride and enjoy all year round. All help much appreciated, please PM me if you prefer. Thanks all.......

Well because I'm sat here bored out of my skull slowly recovering from bronchitis,I thought I'd report on my recent engine rebuild job on my rigid 350 Ajay. I've only done one trial on it since the rebuild, the Golden Valley March Hare, but a good amount of practicing and gentle running in around the lanes. I'm pleased to report that it was worth the effort, the engine starts and runs a treat, pulls like a freight train on a whiff of throttle and idles like a Burrell steam engine.... Another nice bonus is the vastly reduced vibration through the footpegs and bars when at cruise speed on the road - its much smoother. So the dynamic rebalancing of the crank has certainly worke…

Can anyone suggest someone who could supply me with a bolt that I need in order to complete a Bantam engine rebuild. The bolt I need is one of two that attach the gear selector quadrant to the engine case for a 4 speed engine.

I'm thinking of building a spare rear wheel for a 1958 T20c, would this have had a standard or wide rear hub? Or could someone please tell me the width of each so I can measure what's in there to get another one the same size.

Hi guys, new to pre 65, taking the leap. Just agreed a purchase, but going to pick it up with a Dave Cooper bike rack that I take my Bultaco to events with. They say maximum weight for the rack is 120kilos. Anyone weighed a Cub recently. Thanks.

Put a new Reynolds Primary Chain on my B40 (first one in years, old one didn't seem stretched, but better safe than sorry) question is, do they stretch initially and need re-tensioned, or is this not generally a problem ? When fitting it there were dire warnings about using a conventional link rather than endless. The old chain had a link and was never a problem, any views ? Where can I get a tool to put chain links in, every cycle chain breaker has this facility, but I've never seen one for larger chains. Thanks Ross

Hi as the title says i would like to change my brake pedal from the current LHS to the RHS on my FB. My other bike is RHS brake and i feel much more comfortable and balanced this way. so im planning on running a cable through from the RHS to get back to the LHS to operate it. Theres a picture of Norman Shepherd on the yorkshire site members photo and he has this setup, but i just wondered what the setup was like on the opposite side of the bike. the plan is to maybe weld a block on LHS at rear, tap it, and then use a cable stop adjuster like you get in the universal clutch/brake cable kits. Anyone have any ideas or guidance what to do or more importantly not to do? t…

Hi, Does anyone have any info on suitable mods to improve the 175 Bant power with revised port timing. Im from a road racing background but after a quick look, it seems to me the transfer timing is quite short on the standard barrel, particularly for a trials engine. Any ideas folks?

I just got my spare Cub frame from the attic to fit some strengthening plates. Before I do, is there a recognised way to steepen the steering head angle and is this a worthwhile mod? Cutting the head casting looks a bit dodgy but extending the top tube and/or shortening the down tube looks possible. Although I wouldn't have a clue by how much! I know I've got it up for sale but I find it hard to resist building things in the shed and feel another project comming on!

Just completed a bantam new build. Started with a 4 speed engine and heavyweight forks bought cheap off a lad at work. Frame kit from progressive classics, bantam hubs with new akront rims, everything else new or newly manufactured. Was it cheap ? Probably about £2500 without all of my dads labour or many "guvvys" from work but I think worth it and looks good. First try out tomorrow . Any opinions ? Cheers John
