I need to take a bike all the way up north to ride in Scotland (from Bristol), however struggling to find transport. Does anyone know of anywhere that will hire me a van at the age of 20? Cost is not really an issue as it will be paid for (within reason!) however everywhere I have tried has been minimum age of 21 or over. Held my licence for 3 years, no claims etc... Thanks in advance!

I just thought I'd post some piccies of the modifications I made to my standard DC rack for the lighting board. As you can see from the photos the lights and number board are all attached perminately to the rack. The off-side light has the number board illuminator blanked off so there is no visable white light from that side. The near-side lamp nicely luminates the rectangular number board. To attach all of this I got two lengths of captive nut channel used with 19" rack (electrical rack cabinets that is) equipment tack welded to the rack and then everything just bolts straight to it. With regards to the electrics the near side has a plug that plugs into the car socket,…

Hi, I'm looking to get myself a van and I like the look of the Peugeot Expert/Citroen Dispatch/Fiat Scudo models. Does anyone have any experience with these? I have looked at these vans from the outside but the length looks a little marginal especially when I'm looking to transport two bikes. Thanks, Stoford.

Always used bike trialer but recently purchased as new bike rack. I have an Astra Sxi coupe and a Beta bike which seems ok on back of car but the bike seems to move somewhat to me ie flexing of the rack i guess. Is this ok i dont believe it will hit the car but i feel uncomfortble with the moving and find myself looking in the rear view mirror with dread.

Hi I have just bought a Montesa Cota 315R and want to get it road registered so I can legally use it on green lanes. I've seen several advertised with log books and T&T so it must be possible. At the moment I've yet to collect the bike. It does not have any lights on it. But does come with a "lighting kit". I don't know what's in the kit (if its complete or not). What modifications does one have to do to a bike such as this to get an MOT. I assume one does not even technically have to fit lights for the old "daytime MOT" as its so-called! But I may do this anyway as lights might be useful. Obviously I'd like to get an age related plate (in this case it would be a …

Hi, have just got myself a new van and really want to get organized with regards to how to strap or secure my bike in it. I typically carry one bike but on occasions could be three. Are there any racks available? is there any thing that could be simply made up? I am trying to avoid the straps everywhere sort of lash up that usually ends up happening! and would be grateful of any tips or suggestions that could steer me in the right direction. Many Thanks.

Guys, thinking about buying a Vito / V-Class Merc. Need to tow about two tonnes with this vehicle (wife's horse and trailer). Has anyone out there any experience of towing with one of these, and if so are they any good for the job? Cheers - Boner.

I have considered buying a van for sometime now but when you do the maths it doesn’t really add up. As I needed to collect a bike I elected to hire a van from an ‘enterprising’ company. There are companies offering small vans for £23 a day but by the time you add on all the extras it starts to become expensive, plus they are quite away from my location. Anyway I hired a van locally for £31 accident waiver fee was £32 and fuel used was £27. So thats a true cost of £63 the fuel would be used no matter what method of transport chosen. I arranged to hire a Vivaro but come the day of hire I was upgraded to a Transit at no extra and was offered free pick up and drop of and add…

Some thieving Ba****ds paid us a visit last night and helped themselves to one or two parts from the van. From the pictures, it would appear that they took specific parts as nothing was taken from inside the van. This happened in the Richmond, North Yorkshire area so keep so your eyes open and ears to the ground. This is whats left:- A full set of pictures can be found here CSI have just left and have found nothing they can use. It would appear to be a professional job. Apparently, there has been a few vans stripped locally in the last few weeks. More expense and 4 weeks before Scotland ****!*!* Bas***ds.

Hello all, would anyone be able to tell me if my Peugeot Partner 2.0HDI could accomodate a bike rack to carry a Montesa 4RT. Its too much messing about getting a bike in and out of the back & although it does go in, it would be much nicer to lift it onto a rack. Thanks in advance Andy

Excitement! Just bought my first ever trials bike and have hired a Berlingo to go and pick it up. I've got an assortment of straps and ropes that I've accumulated over the years, along with dust sheets and old towels. Are there plenty of anchor points to which I can secure it? Is there any trick of experience that someone can pass on, or is it all pretty obvious? Many thanks

Anyone recommend a tow bar mounted bike carrier suitable for a van ? It needs to be able to allow the bikes handlebars to clear the back of the van doors, so I guess the front wheel carrier needs to be at quite an angle to allow the handle bars to clear ? Adverts for some I have seen imply only suitable for cars

Today I finished painting the outside of the house a new colour, and also did the second coat of wood oil on the deck, followed by painting the facias white with enamel paint. After this I was a bit bored and thought it would look good if I used the white enamel paint brush I had used to paint all the facia boards and plant hangers around the house to paint the bike trailer white as well. Not a great colour for trials, but good for visibility. I ordered a towbar for Nicola's Peugeot 1007 this week, to be home fitted next Wednesday. Then I will be able to get to venues over weekends and possibly through the week while I continue to look for a job. Of course, typically,…

I moved to the USA on a 3 month work detail and here I am 20+ years later, married, kids, dogs, mortgage……but I left my love back in the UK. I am looking to be reunited with my beloved 1978 Montesa Cota 348. I would love this bike to be my next rebuild project. Does anyone have any bike shipping experience? This bike has been sitting for 30 years in a garage (it was not ridden the last few years of me being in the UK) should I dismantle it and ship part by part? Should I ship it complete? Can I get customers clearance without a title? I have had a couple of quotes that want to wrap the bike in bubble wrap and build a customized crate along with all those costs! …
