SSDT Chat

Such a popular event it deserves it's own forum!

Wasn't at the ssdt last year which apparently saw the change to 20 minutes(from 30) as the time we are allowed into parc ferme for bike maintenance etc. Can somebody confirm that this indeed is the new policy etc. Also, sounds like mandatory lunch stop is now 20 minutes as well? Please enlighten me! Thanks

I may be in Fort William from Tuesday and because of the usual budget constraints and the need for a good nights sleep (4 hours sleep in 3 days last year after sharing a room with 2 very loud snorers) I will be camping; if anyone else is camping, what site will you be at ?

Been going to the SSDT a few years now and still don't know the guy who interviews on the finish ramp or in charge of the Mic at the presentation............................ Now I may upset his family, but he needs to retire and talk about a subject and and maybe people he knows because it seems he knows Jack S**t about trials or the people who take part!!! So one of the highlights of the week was at the presentation when Dougie had enough of him took the microphone out of his hand and did his speech.............hell of a result

Hi all I am going to attend this years SSDT,but want to make sure i get to see two sections, being:The pipeline and the other is one that is always featured on DVD's,it is were they go under a road bridge which is always full of spectators and climb up the stream over rocks.I hope this is good enough descripton. My main question is were are both of these sections so i can plan to see both, also are they at opposite ends of the trial,or by any good luck, within a couple of days of each other.Any help would be great. Regards David

Our good friend Perce has been out getting some training in. He announced that he was 'mounted'! on a new bike this year, only to be reveiled at 'Weigh In'. Well the Paparazzi have been up in Swaledale and caught a snap of him on his new bike.......... Our other friend Kinnel, has sold his beloved Beta (Beta man through and through) so has not attended the SSDT since. He too has been caught on a new model and has vowed to return? This model is much quicker on the roads! he now wants to be known as ''The King of the Road''.................to Mallaig. He is currently testing fuel consumption

Morning campers, Was fortunate enough to be roaming the hills near Callart falls just before sunset last night and found what - for obvious reasons - I will describe as a good quality expensive item related to trials or a trials rider. So if you rode, marshalled or spectated the 2014 SSDT and lost something the day the bikes went to callart falls and can describe to me in detail what you lost I will gladly (reluctantly) arrange to have it returned to you. If not I promise to make good use of it with a clear conscience.

Just wondered how many people on here fitted a speedo to their bike for the SSDT. I am debating whether to bothor or not. This will be my second year riding Scotland and last year I had a speedo and horn. However the scruitineer's never even checked them etc. I know its the law to have a horn and speedo but I cant really rememer seeing many bikes with the correct items. I did a whole day with no rear mudguard and no number plate and the old bill didnt seem to worry as I parked my bike up next to them. I ride a Beta and fitted the standard speedo last year which I think lasted about an hour before it broke. This is probably my fault due to me crashing and falling …

  11. Doug Lampkin winning his 11th Scottish rightfully made all the headlines. He was however a firm favourite going into the week. I'd like to congratulate Tom Minta on a fabulous and dare I say, less widely predicted result. Best first timer, 5th overall and best under 200cc, Tom rode the Scottish on a 125. Hands up all those clubmen who still think they 'need' a 300!

As it says on the tin, I am thinking of taking the road bike thru to watch, have never been before and don't even know where to start going tbh. I'm coming from Dundee, so thru Glencoe, and will only be holiday Monday I can make it, so should I just head in to Kinlochleven and walk places from there or is there any tips on where to go and watch ??? Thanks in advance

Friday from a spectators point of view is, in my opinion, the best day of the SSDT. It's a "must-do" in my book. The majority of sections are pretty close to the road and you get the awesome drive round Moidart where the views are absolutely stunning. Meandering round this year, I stopped off and took some shots I've stitched together to give some idea of what it's like out there. It doesn't really do it justice, but if you've never been, take a look at this panorama. (1.3MB so dial-up users beware).

Anybody got video of me being twatted by the bike that flipped upside down? I'd really love to see what the hell went on as I was looking at the screen on the camera at the time and didn't even realise anything had happened till I got this sudden pain in my shin where the bash plate hit it.

Excuse my ignorance but...I am very new to the sport (weeks) but have been aware of the SSDT's for a long time and since being on here I have read numerous times about how concerned they are about losing sections etc, and rightly so, and hense why they make such a drive to stop spectators riding off road them self, however, I can't stop thinking it's all being used by the authorities to brake your back with! By this I mean, the possible threat of losing things, surely it was be an enormous own goal for the local area, local authority, local land owners etc etc to make any attempt to stop things. The world attention the area gets, the influx of visitors, the money the loc…
