Help! I bought a 240 JCM trials bike some time ago which appeared to work perfectly. However, I've since discovered that when the engine is hot, she's difficult, nay impossible, to start. Then when the engine cools down, she starts perfectly again. I suspect that it could be a problem with the little red box thing under the petrol tank which I think is something to do with electronic ignition perhaps??? I've thrashed her with a leafy branch, called her a few unprintable names and locked her away in solitary confinement for a few months but she still flatly refuses to behave. Any technical advice would be much appreciated. http://s605.photobucket.com/albums/tt136/b...nt…

Hello, Trying to learn about TY Yamaha's prepped by John Shirt in the mid 80's. I have one that I know has been in the US since 1985, I've noticed a few items that seem to be different than a stocker, Mine has John Shirt stamped in which appears to be a different style silencer than stock. Can any one tell me what John did to these bikes. Thanks, SB

In the process of putting a Fantic 305 back together and the discs are knackered. Found someone who will make some for me but they have asked if i want wavy ones or just std discs. Question: Ive seen wavy discs on bikes but never knew why. So why would i / should i fit wavy discs and if i do drilled or not ? Sorry but most of my trials experience has been with drum brakes and i have no idea why you would want to fit wavy discs in fact they look like they would feel really weird in use a bit like having distorted drums but i'm probably dead wrong. So please enlighten me before i spend my hard earned. Thanks

I've noticed that in the ACU Classic trials that they are using the new Scorpa air-cooled 125s and this lead me to thinking. I noticed that the bore on the Montesa RT4 and XR250 are the same. Therefore, could I use an air-cooled RT4 with an XR250 head in the ACU classic series? The engineering isn't a problem and I haven

While pottering around on the dunes with my son, my bike, a gas gas 125 has decided to kill itself. While in top gear (and thankfully on a straight bit of beach) the throttle seemed to jam wide open, with no response from throttle, clutch or kill switch (once I`d wrestled it to a halt.) After continuing to scream it then rapidly died. And surprise surprise it isn`t keen on starting, just sounds horribly rattley on the kick start. So my questions to you clever people are What caused this, what`s the damage likely to be and once rebuilt how do I prevent it happening again? I had just filled it with fresh fuel containing 63ml of putoline. Thanks, Jac…

I bought an original 1986 Gas Gas Halley on tinternet. Matey said it was complete......but it wasnt, the silencer was missing I need to fabricate another one to match the original exactly. The body of the silencer will be hard anough to replicate the original . I also need to source some internal baffle pipe which i can run through the centre of the silencer. Does anyone know of a company or person selling any ? Is it available ? It would save me drilling hundreds of holes in a bit of pipe which would be pretty grim Ta

i'm very slowly getting my JCM SR 240 up and running again with a view to eventually selling it, to raise funds for another project for information- i used to ride it in the early 90's and it hasnt been started since then, before my dad died he started rebuilding it , the frame was powder coated, the fibre glass tank seat cover has been repainted, new JCM piston found and installed and new stickers made, unfortunately he became ill and never finished it. its by no means immaculate but doesnt look to shabby!! its now running (thanks to a friend) and i'm going to try it out this week......very excited!!!! does anyone have any idea how much oil should be in the forks, my…

I have the chance to pick up one of these bikes but know nothing about this model. I seem to be missing the gap between the 349 wich I owned and the 310 wich was much more like the modern cota. Are spares easy to get? Did they send very many to the U.S.? i just picked up an old TY250r mono thats in good shape and has had many of that periods mods already done. Maybe I should pick up the cota and sell the TY. Thoughts anyone?

So how many folks know anything about this 1986 Honda air cooled 244 cc 4 stroke, six speed box monoshock bike? My pages are here:- http://john.rushworth.com/pics/tlr250r-g/ I'm curious about how many were made and where they are? I guess there are about 40 now in the UK. I've yet to see and hear for sure if there is a 1987 H model too. She weighs about the same as an RTL, which I've ridden. Mine is far more forgiving though and a joy to ride. The torque curve is sooo flat. Great! I have a history from Ian Smith's Motorcycle Reports on TLs's and RTL300s etc including and out of interest Shinja Kazama's ride on a TL230R up Everest in 1983 to the southern column of Pumo …

Im restoring this 1986 GasGas 325 Halley at the moment and Ive run into a problem. The rear wheel around the bearing is cracked beyond repair. Weld would simply break at this stress point and in any case the metal does even take weld, particularly well. Welding is out of the question. It is a Nagesti 120mm internal diameter drum rear hub. Nagesti were absorbed into Akront. Merlins were fitted with 110mm Nagesti's so this is not good enough. Does anyone have any knowledge of other bikes that this rear hub was fitted to ? Thanks in advance
