Youth Trials

  1. Started by newmomtotrials,

My 7 yr old son is new to trials and we got him a Beta 50 to start with. Problem we are having is he is a pretty aggressive rider for his age/size and keeps spinning the rear wheel and causing his tube valve to leak/break. Any advise on how to fix this? I am wondering if their is another type of tire to use or a trick to help? I know he will need to move up someday but I'm thinking to move up to an 80 would be too big a step at this point....? Any thoughts ideas? Or am I going to be buying stock in tubes?

Howdy I am looking at getting a 2nd hand bike for my 9 year old son. He has grown up around bikes, and has had a 50cc trail bike, which we will now sell. He is very keen on getting into trials riding, as we have a great scene here in Spain. I was going to get him an 80cc Gas Gas, but they seem pretty hard to find 2nd-hand. It was suggested today, by a local trials guy, that we get him a 125cc bike so he can grow into it. I would love some feedback from you all. Thanks.

Evening all, Mansfield Maun Motorcycle Club are launching their Midlands Minichamps Junior Trials Championship this year if anybody is interested. Building on the back of the successful Oset trials in 2018 they have decided to run a petrol powered championship in 2019 for riders making the transition to combustion engine machines. All six rounds are situated in Derbyshire and are in close proximity to the M1 corridor with 4 Routes being set out covering all abilities from beginners to advanced. They are also holding a juniors only practice day this weekend at Clipstone for all junior classes of electric and petrols. Thanks.

As youth riders in Europ are now staying on the 80cc bikes longer than the UK, and the A.C.U. are trying to fall in line with the FIM etc. Would it not be possible to introduce a 80cc class into the youth B British championships from 2007. All youth C riders will be on the 80cc bikes and all youth A riders will be on 125, so there will be less class's anyway. The youth B is the biggest class in the championships so why not introduce a youth B 80cc class as well as the 125. Some of the smaller lads find the jump to 125 a bit much, so introducing a 80 class would help them get used to the harder sections on a bike they could handle before making the jump to 125. Joh…

  6. Hello from the Canadian side of the 'pond'. My son has a 2006 TXT 80 and I'm thinking of "refreshing" the top end. The OEM cylinder is a Morini and is made with iron (and is not Nicosil (sp?) coated). As a result I am considering a complete kit from Italkit (model CK.22.750.G). Anything I do will be an improvement to the (lack of) power output. Does anyone have any experience with Italkit and/or this particular kit? At the moment I'm trying to determine if the kit is available and from whom I could order it. Scooters and their support shops are not very popular here in N.A. Your help is appreciated. Dale

There is concern amongst those involved in the youth championships, by the provisional dates allocated for 2018. In several instances there appear to be plans to hold one trial for A and B classes on one day of a weekend then another for the C and D classes on the second day. The problem arises since one needs to consider numbers of potential riders in the various classes, as far as the organisers are concerned, will just two classes competing raise enough riders? Then there is the impact on expense as far as the parents are concerned. For example those with more than one child competing could be facing overnight stay costs for several weekends of the year for th…

British Championship youth B leader Jack Sheppard crashed out of the superb YMSA 3 day at the weekend on the second day. He had ridden his socks off the previous day riding up a class on the top route finishing second to team mate Jack Challoner. On the second day, disaster struck after coming back off a rock step at the end of the second lap. Jack landed on his back and the betas handlebar used the back of his hand to soften its landing leaving him in immense pain and braking the metacarpel bone He has been back to hospital today after some temporary work and the opinion is that it will be 6 weeks in plaster. This of course means that his lead in the Youth B british c…

An ACU representative was at the British Sheffield Youth round and made an announcement at the start that the ACU was thinking of changing the ages of the classes. They wanted to change the age classes, and the knock-on from this would be that any youth in the second year of the 'B' Class would be moved up to the 'A' class for 2019. I seem to remember this was to allow a younger youth to move up to 125? I voiced my concerns to the ACU Offical (sorry cannot remember his name) at the time, and told him you will be pushing the riders on to a harder route, this does not seem fair or safe to those riders, who are all expecting to still be riding the 'B' class next y…

My young lad will be moving to a 125 this time next year but I'm already thinking about which direction to take. He's big enough and currently rides an 80 Gas Gas Rookie so is used to the weight and size of a virtually full size bike. But what comes next? Not so much a fan of Beta's, Sherco 125's seem popular but have changed for 2016, same with Scorpa's, who knows about Gas Gas, although I do like them. Any advice or experience gratefully listened to

Just back from Richmond where NYL "cramped up" on final lap so failed to finish. However we believe Jack Challoner took A Class victory (nice one "JC"), and Alex Wigg came in third. Jonathan Richardson took the B class win.
