ACU Discussion

In view of the attached link Here. What amount of funding does the ACU or indeed the sport of trials recieve from the National Lottery, or is the funding only intended for naughty people?

I've just renewed my trials registration for 2024 and the ACU have come back asking for a medical (because I'm over 70) and an eye test (because I am over 55, though never needed one before). They have to be filled out by a doctor and optician, which is obviously going to be an expensive business. Is this for real? Or another quirky mistake from the Sport 80 system? If it is real I think I will stick to AMCA in future as the cost and hassle won't be worth it for just a couple of trials a year.

We are struggling with the additional requirements stipulated by the MSA for the Colmore Cup on 3rd March. The £2.75 per rider isn't a problem, we've put the entry fee up to cover this. Producing a map and sending it with the completed paperwork has been easy. (I know I did this.) Checking that the route doesn't follow/cross any footpaths, restricted byways etc is a little harder, but has now been completed. But.... how on earth can we send a letter to every houshold within 100m of the 28 mile route? It's almost impossible withthe man power we have available. More worrying still is our LDT later in the year, this is 75 miles round. What are other clubs doing?

Have any dates been set for National Clerk of Course seminars? And have the Claasic and Miller series dates been decided yet?

Does anyone know when the dates for next years nationals will be released?

Does anyone know when the national dates for 2012 will be available? There is normally a list on the ACU website, but I've not seen it yet. Many thanks

With only a handful of riders in the world able to get the best from a modern trials bike, the recent change of rules to non stop may not be enough to make a real difference to the sport. If bikes were heavier this would limit their capabilities, but this is a difficult change to make, check and enforce. If bikes were less powerful it would make a difference, but again, next to impossible to put in place. If suspension was less effective it would be a big handycap but this is impossible to introduce. I'm posting here because I assume they are published by the ACU. I thought that when you received your ACU license that they also sent the little booklet with the calendar of events in your centre. Apparently not, so my question is where do I get one? I don't want to be critical here because I really appreciate all the work that the local clubs and organisers do, but planning ahead for trials can be so difficult (I know I'm not the only one who has a busy schedule). Usually clubs post their trials on the TC calendar which is great, but sometimes it's only a week before hand. Following some discussion on another thread recently, concerning the severity of Clubmans championship rounds, are these events limited to one single route or can organising clubs include a non championship B route if they wish? As is the case with many big events, the Colmore Cup suffers from the vast range of riders abilities. Whilst the top 10 or so find it a fairly pleasant ride around, there are a good number who find the going more of a challenge. There are almost certainly a number of riders (genuine club level clubmen and ladies) who would also like to ride in these events but feel they are too hard. I have heard a rumour that the Observing rules for the 2007 British Trials Championship are going to revert back to the old FIM rules, i.e. stop for a 1 etc. Is this true? If so, I personally think that this would be a backward step for the Championship. This was the only opportunity for our top Adults and rising youth stars to hone there skills before venturing into Europe and beyond. Can anyone shed any light on this? John ??

Well i've been going on about this for ages and some other posts in other categories have touched on it so here goes. The ACU produce a handbook. In that handbook are various rules and regulations pertaining to all the forms of Motor Cycle sport within the ACU jurisdiction. So how come there is such a wide varience in elegibility of the Pre65 bikes and now the twinshock class at Club, Center, National and err Scottish (i'm gonna regret this arent i?) I am the Membeship Secretary for the Stratford-Upon-Avon club and one of our members has recently had a problem with his affiliation renewal and I thought that I'd maybe jog some memories It turns out that; through a genuine mistake (not the riders!) his application form wasn't processed by the ACU as it had not been signed by a club. Our club has recently been given permission to use a brand new venue to stage a trial. New venue, new sections. That doesn't happen very oftenthese days. What's more, it has a club house and a large carpark and the course can be a mile or more round each lap. We needed to impress the owner. We would like to go there again.
