hi all, [edit: apparently it's a contact TXT not a Pro, also it's 2002] I realise this has sorta been asked before but none of the previous posts seemed to be quite the same thing. so I recently bought my bike, I do all the maintenance on my street bike (4 stroke) and I've got a couple of very modified scooter builds on the go so I don't mind getting my hands dirty, but this seems to be somewhat of a different animal so figured I'd check with people who might know before I start ripping things apart unnecessarily, esp as the the (paper) "service manual" ..er well.. doesn't exactly go into much detail, to put it mildly. I've downloaded the parts list pdf wh…

Most trials and riding areas near where I live are so small a 3 liter tank and 5th and 6th gears are unnecessary. I'd like to only fill the tank with enough gas for a loop or a riding session but with the GG tank I can't tell how much is in there and would top off to be safe. I would be carrying around unnecessary extra weight up high where you want it least. 3 liters of gas weighs about 4.5 lbs and I only need about .5 liter for a loop or session. I can save weight by filling up with only the gas that I need and keeping in on reserve. So I made this simple visual gas gauge with clear fuel line and two vacuum line T-fittings. The green line shows where I usually fill to a…

Hi GasGAs community. I have heard only difference between 125 and 200 is cylinder and piston. Can anyone confirm that? I`ve got a 2002 TXT Pro 200 engine with a crack in the casing lying around. Thought I should use the 200 cylinder and piston on my sons 2006 125 and use it for myself. The cylinder is not mint condition, but doesnt look too bad. What about jets? Should I use a bigger main jet? Thanks -Jan

I have a 2013 TXT PRO 250 that I purchased used a couple of years ago with unknown number of hours. I probably put 400 hours on the bike since I bought it. I am wondering how many hours these bikes go before needing a top end rebuild. It's running fine, but it feels easier to kick than when I purchased the bike (which just might be me getting used to kicking it...) I haven't measured the compression yet, but I could do that if someone tells me what numbers I should expect from a compression test (and how to measure: carb on / off, reed box on/off, pipe on/off etc...). When doing a top end rebuild, what's needed (beside the gaskets)? Rings only? Piston? …

Hi The other topic touched the question, but i thought I would make a new one.. The crank seals on my 04 Pro 300 is probably leaking on both sides. First symptom was tha the piston was knocking heavily. My local dealer said the reason was that the engine runs lean. Since the carb is clean and jetted as it shoud, the reeds are OK he ment that it was taking in air through the crank seal. I momentarily solved that when I fitted a bigger jet and raised the needle maximum. Now it has begun to smoke some more, and the smoke smells nothing like strawberries (uses IPONE "strawberry oil". Smells like strawberries - goes like s*h*i*t )and the gear oil slowly dissapears. The…

I'm having an issue (which is a euphemism for a screaming tantrum) installing a new rear caliper on my '03 280 TXT Pro. My previous issue involved a broken bleeder valve in the old caliper; it has been replaced with a brand new caliper. The old caliper and the rear brake system were not violently damaged, and worked fine when removed. I received my new caliper, bolted it up, and went to bleed it. I cannot establish any pressure in the brake system. I have used a syringe to push fluid from the caliper towards the reservoir; I can't seem to get any fluid to move into the reservoir. I have pulled fluid from the caliper; I can't seem to make the reservoir level drop. I…

Hi all, I'm new to the forum so apologize in advance for the question I'm about to ask, because the more senior members (that have been on here a while) will have probably beaten this horse to death several times...but...LOL...here goes...does anyone have a link to an actual service manual for a 2007 TXT 280?

Hello! So I've wanted a trials bike for years and just now finally got one. I found a 1995 Gas Gas Contact 25 in near showroom condition. I couldn't believe it. Hardly a mark on it. The tires still have 90% tread left, but front is dry cracked with age so I'll be replacing that. I can't find a manual anywhere. I replaced the crank case oil, and drained the coolant by loosening the two colts on the right case where the hoses enter the motor, then refilled the radiator. I shouldn't have trapped air should I? I tilted bike side to side and then added more coolant. Bike starts first kick and I added 50:1 fresh gas. Can't find a spec on spark plug, but it runs great. Any sugge…

Hi all, i have a 2001 txt 250 that has a really annoyed engine knock. Only seems to do it from idle and quick throttle response, but occasionally at consistent high revs too. sound is a very mettalic clunk not consistent just every now and then. Sounds like detonation or knock but i have tried the following to no avail yet.... I have tried idle jet 30-35 with all needle clip positions. I have tried 118 and 122 main jets. new plug, both this and old plug are almost perfect in terms of colour and no deposits. advancing and retarding timing to limits of travel (seems worse when advanced from stock though) decoke head and new piston kit, big end checked and ok as are …

Got a little debate going on and thought someone may be able to explain it well. I've been riding a 125 GG for a few years now and love it due to it FEELING lighter and more like a MTB. Back when I rode a 280 or 300 I always FELT that a 250 was heavier when I rode it but attributed that to having a little more power on the 280. Obviously this isn't the case with a 125 so can anyone technical explain why my 125 FELT lighter to ride. I rode a 250 in this years Scottish due to injury and again last weekend and both times It felt very heavy and cumbersome. I know the dry weights are similar so can anyone explain it so I can with my argument debate.

Well after a few years of riding motocross and enduro i Decided to get a trials bike to help improve my skills, i ended up buying a gasgas jtx270 for 400euro (yes, 400euro!!) it needed a few bits and pieces but nothing major! i done the wheel bearings, steering head bearings, fork seals, water pump, break pads, grps, leavers and then just general TLC and because im in the trade all in all it stands me less than 500euro hehe! .. bike runs and rides sweet! i've only put about 4 hours on it in the past week i've owned it but i have to say im hooked, many more years of riding trials in the future i see considering im only 19 still have the enduro bike (gasgas ec200) and an …
