I want to clean out my Sherpa exhaust by the caustic soda method but reading up on it is a bit confusing... use of a rubber/potato bung, etc etc... If anyone has got any experience of doing it this way could give a step by step guide that would be great. Cheers Tony ?

My 158 Sherpa T (1976 I think) has a slim muffler and not the square boxed one (rear of shocky) usually seen. It appears to be a genuine item as it matches the main exhaust. Can any body tell me if this is correct for this model?

just started to work on my second Bultaco and don't seem to be more lucky than last time (still working on the 125 Lobito, will post updates however). The Bultaco starts by kicking. First time using starter-spray. After some time it will still start using no spray... (5 - 10 min. after the use of spray, so none will be left to keep it starting, I supose) but it won't rev up, idles for some seconds (2-5 seconds) and stops. Action on the gas hand won't change anything, kills the engine even quicker... any ideas? We obviously have spark... could it be to weak? So the first steps could be going through the prozess of cleaning the points, shorten all cables, perfection …

Hi, Does anyone know if there is a difference in the porting between the later 325 and the 340 barrels? Was it simply a bigger bore? many thanks

Hi, I have read that the Model 49 325 is 'basically' a 325 'bored out'. No doubt this is an exaggerated statement, but is it possible to 'upgrade' a 250 bottom end with a 325 cylinder & piston?

Hello all. I'm new to twinshocks and need some help. I have a Bultaco 325 which I think is a 1978. I'm going to change the clutch and change the oils. I've been told there is a clutch/primary oil and then a gearbox oil? Could anyone tell me what oil to use in both and how much it takes. Many thanks

Can some of the experts give an opinion on the difference in power delivery of the 199A (325) and 199B (340) sherpas?. I've been told that the 325 is a bit sharper but surely a couple of cc,s doesn't make all that much difference?.

Im going to be rebuilding a 325 and wondered if anyone has an opinion on wether its worth boring to 340ccs ?? Anyone had any experience of this and was it an improvement?? What size piston do the 340s use? I guess the head will need machining to suit which is no problem - what squish clearance is prefered?? many thanks Stu

Hi all, I have a 340 Bultaco, I bought it off Roy "Ago" Wilson some years back, although I have ridden it a few times it is a bit rough in places and I'm currently considering a general direction for a refurb ( i.e. do up as is or continue the development)for another go at riding it. At the time of purchase it was already in a fairly modified state i.e. having been vesty-ised to some extent at the rear end, according to Roy this could have been carried out by Chris Milner. I managed to speak to Chris at a trial a few years ago and he could not confirm if it was his work or not, I have also spoken to Dave Renham who confirmed that it was supplied new to Dave Thorpe, I hav…

Bit wierd but my recently acquired 340 has a 36mm Bing ! I am assuming this has been fitted in error? I'd guess 36mm would be about right for an MX engine. I was pretty sure they came with 28mm??? Also, is the standard 199b (11t x 39t) gearing the same on a 198b or did the 250 have diffenent gearing? many thanks! Stu

Hello Folks,Is it possible to replace the crank seals on a late 340 Sherpa without splitting the crankcases? As I am a tight Scotsman, this would be a right saver, however I'm willing to bite the bullet if someone tells me it would be a good idea to change the mains etc regardless as the bike is still on the originals? Feel free to tell me I'm a miserable penny pinching Jock and just get it done right.

Hi. Anyone got a Puma or Vasquez Bultaco 340 fitted with a 26mm PHBH Dellorto carb ? I am working on a 340 that I have fitted an SWM carb and it seems to run fine, but wanted to check if pilot jet, main jet, needle, atomiser and slide were comparable. Currently running 60 pilot, 90main, X2 needle, AV266 atomiser, 70 slide. Thanks in advance Martin

Does anyone have a diagram of a 340 6 speed gearbox please. Split it several weeks ago, put it back together today and it seemed to find all the gears when manually using the shifting drum. Put the other casing on ( without the crank ) inserted the gear selector shaft and shifting trigger mechanism and it wouldn't engage a gear. Done a couple of 5 speed boxes before no problem. Serves me right for not doing it all at once. A diagram would greatly assist although I bet they're like hens teeth. Its either a selector in the wrong sequence although I don't think so or the shifting trigger mech, but again they look ok. Something to ponder over gen…
