Hi all. I joined this forum recently as I have a 350 Sherpa 199 (red / silver / black) that I want to restore to use for a but of fun (i.e. not concours). I've gathered plenty of experience rebuilding / building bikes over the last 40 years or so, but do like to have a manual when I do an engine for things like wear limits on big ends / bore / crank runout / torque values etc., ohh, and a decent diagram or exploded view of the gearbox. The bike has had little use and is pretty much stock, bar the universal plastic guards. It was 'parked' in '93 because the clutch was slipping (and I was about to go work abroad) I stripped and boxed it. Having retired 3 years ag…

I have heard of putting a longer front brake arm to give more leverage to pull the clutch actuator. But, have any of yall done this? Modify the operating spindle, and flywheel cover, to accept a needle roller bearing, which can be easily lubricated, which greatly reduces friction and improves clutch action substantially. http://www.classictrial.co.uk/bultacodevproject.html If you have done this, how did it work for you? Also, do you have any tips if you did this mod yourself? What size bearing, how did you machine it, etc? Thanks, ryanroz

HI guys, Does any one know of an engineer in the bristol area who would take on small jobs. I am on about silly small jobs that you can do at home with a lathe and a piller drill. the problem is that i have never used a lathe and i have not god the money to buy a decent one. All i need is the odd bush to be made or a spacer rather then 20 odd washers. Whilst i am on the topic how does one learn to use such equipment, I know you gents more then likely learnt at school however i am of the generation where we had to learn sewing and cookery at school rather then skills that are usefull in life. ( just to let you know i could cook a fry up before school taught me how to b…

For my M92 project I have the offer of a barely used Dellorto, from a 2003 Gas Gas pro 300. I havent got it to measure yet but I think the spiggot OD is 31mm. Does anyone know if this is right and what carb rubber I need to fit to the two stud amal fitting? Does anyone in the UK sell a rubber for an amal to dellorto conversion? Cheers Hoodie.

Finally got around to getting the old 199B 340 Sherpa running again. Trying desperately to sort out the "projects" worth persevering with and getting rid of everything else. So fitted the new VM28 carb thats been sitting in the draw for the past 18 months but the carburation just seems a bit off. The carb has been jetted to suit a 340 199B but thats always a bit of a guess so i'm wondering if anybody has fitted a VM 28 and got it running spot on and if so what jets they are using. From memory the jets in it are as follows Main 130 Pilot 35 Needle jet N8 Needle 5DPJ i think Slide is 2.5 The pilot feels a bit too lean especially as the only way i can get it to be a…

Hope that worked.... She's running, but needs the rear brake connected, a seat, air filter/box, and chain fitted. Back wheel really needs re-spoked, but that can wait until next month. The exhaust is more or less touching the back wheel however, so will have to put a spacer between it and the frame to give me some clearance. Threads on the rear wheel spindle and swing arm spindle don't match the nuts I've got. was hoping to have a drive round the yard at the weekend, but looks like it'll have to wait.

Hi. Just got a 199A and the throttle seems very heavy and the carb spring quite strong, stronger than I remember. Does anyone know what the free length of the spring should be, the number of turns and the wire diameter. The old twist grip is knackered. Anyone recommend a fast or slow domino right angle twistgrip and suitable cable. Thanks Tony
