Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

Might be just me who is ignorant of SORN rules, but just in case; Bought a bike last October, was told it was SORN`ed.Heard nothing since from DVLA. Got it Insured and Mot`d last month, came to tax it and DVLA tell me SORN doesn`t transfer with change of ownership so a gap has appeared on their records, and a fine is due. Just had to write grovelling letter to local Taxation office to hopefully avoid fine, stating obviously that I wasn`t trying to avoid duty as tax exempt.. Should have done what the local criminals/joy riders do, and not bothered registering it in my name?

Anyone having much joy with insuring a 300RR? Seem almost impossible to find a company that lists the bigger 288cc motor, the 250 and 260 can be insured no problem. Unfortunately Msm insurance don’t cover my area.

Yet to get in to Trials and want to suss out all of the issues before I jump in... one of which is getting to/from the trials location. It so happens that I live just 4 miles from an official trials site and so I'm wondering if getting a road-reg bike with MOT, tax and insurance and riding it to/from is a reasonable option? Had a couple of comments that have diss'ed the idea completely but thought I'd poll a wider audience and see if anyone has done this and how viable it is? Tyres seem to be the main issue, followed by knackering the mechanicals! Obviously, if I get in to competition more seriously and want to travel off to other venues, then I'll need a van/tr…

Ok, so I know that in the UK you officially need a horn and a motorbike-sized number plate for daytime running on the road, and in France you're ok with an LED front and tail light (brake light too?), and a mini number plate (not sure about horn) ... what about in Spain? What's the minimum equipment for a trials bike to be 100% legal?

Hi everyone, I'm looking at getting my new evo insured for theft. It's road registered as the dealer offered to sort all that out for me and i figured it may be best in the long run. At the moment I only want insurance for theft etc. My plan was to SORN it as soon as the paperwork comes through. I spoke to Carol Nash today who said I need an MOT to insure it as it's road registered. Not sure if this is the case however if i sorn it? Can anyone confirm as i don't want to pay out for an MOT if not necessary! Thanks Hugh

I'm looking for a horn that will pass an mot. I ordered what I thought would be sufficient off tinterweb but it was rejected as it wasn't a single tone constant. Can anyone recommend a particular one to get as opposed to just suggesting a battery powered horn.

Hey Guys I am considering riding a few road events this year but currently do not have a bike license. Simple question really can I ride my mont on a CBT or will I need to do a Direct access. Hopefully its not the latter as its bloody expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Scott

As it says in the title! I wanted to road register my bike so I could insure it tpf&t, I'm not that interested in riding it on the road. Maybe the odd road trial and a few local green lanes. I sent the V55 Application form off with insurance, MOT and a letter from Steve Saunders (who has been very helpful) stating that when the bike was imported (in 2012), the NOVA system was not in place. I also note that Steve Saunders has supplied a V267 (Declaration that a vehicle is new) to the DVLA since my original application. I can only assume the DVLA asked him for this themselves. Good morning. I'm planning to go a bit further to a few trials this winter, and wondered how to get legal for the road between sections, rather than load the trailer up each time. I'm buying a new bike, so can register it and I have a full bike license. Questions: Is there any special registration catagory for a competition machine, or is it just like any other bike? Will I need a proper size number plate? How much is road tax for a 300cc machine - probably doing less than 100 miles a year? Where's a good place to get road insurance for a trials bike - I suppose 3rd party is all I need? Are there any legal exemptions to save all of the bother? Many thanks

Like many it appears; I have been through the get the bike insured TPF&Theft so I can register or tax it . Like many,... I suspect,,, I can't understand why my Evo is not recognised by the competitive search engine type insurers) and even when after trawling around for best deal with a broker/ insurer who will issue cover it seems I have to put up with them listing the bike as a grey import. Hi all I am new to trials riding and i am probably asking a silly question what has been answered hundreds of time before but, i have just bought a 2007 beta 250 road registered so i can drive from my home 2 miles up the road to some local trials area's. I thought if my bike was insured,taxed,and a daytime mot this would be fine. I also have been told that trials tyres are not road legal and i could be issued with 6 points and a further 3 for the wrong sized number plate. I am slightly confused to how you can be issued a mot with none legal road tyres or a correct size number plate, and also dont fancy getting points. Morning All, Due to my age being 23 when I took my test, and after January 2013 I could do my full bike test but only have a a2 licence meaning I am restricted to 47bhp and no more than a 0.2kw/kg power to weight ratio. so im wondering if any body out there actually noes the BHP of a 2015 sherco 300? its the power to weight im worried about. sherco state it weighs 68kg and 0.2kw equates to 0.268bhp, there for the bike would have to be 18bhp to be legal? could any one in the no please shed some light Many Thanks

Has anyone had trouble getting insurance for an 2010 Evo. Ebike my normal insurer will not quote and Carole Nash only have a 250 Rev 3 on the pull down menu. I have tried the bikeinsurer but all still refer to a rev 3? Any guidance would be appreciated as I need to get a cover note to register and tax the new beaut before pickup on Saturday.

Ive seen lots of differing versions of what you need posted into the forums.. ive just had mine done so I can confirm the requirements - 1) horn (constant sound - not honk HONK !) - megablast horn avail on ebay 2) road reg plate (to the proper standards, i.e full size) 3 Tyres - if your tyres say 'for offroad use only' on them, scrub this off, start with with a sharp Stanley knife then sand to remove any trace The bike has to be in general good condition in terms of play on headstock or swing arm / wheels.
