Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

Hi anybody insured the post 2014 259cc 4rts for road use with a normal insurance company. Only seem to recognise the 249cc versions.

The last few years I have insured my road legal trials bikes with specialist insurance companies that provide cover during a competition on the road. Most std bike insurance exclude this. With the ACU now providing insurance to cover the Road Traffic Act requirements as part of the entry fee is it necessary to go with the specialist firms or is standard road cover ok for TPF&T when not competing and for cover when going to a trial and when at home. Difference is about £140 per year so worth considering. Any thoughts or experiences

can anyone recommend insurers for off road bikes please, particularly for pre-65 trials bikes, if it makes any difference they are all road reg.

Hi, I have a 1972 Bultaco Alpina 250 nearing completion of restoration. It was imported to the UK from the USA about 4 years ago ( it's original export destination from Spain). I have matching engine and frame numbers. I will shortly be going through the process of getting it road registered and i understand if I can show to DVLA evidence of the original age corroborated by the manufacturer or an established owners club, i can get it registered with a 1972 number plate. Can anyone please help point me in the right direction of finding a source that can help ? thanks

I'm looking for a horn that will pass an mot. I ordered what I thought would be sufficient off tinterweb but it was rejected as it wasn't a single tone constant. Can anyone recommend a particular one to get as opposed to just suggesting a battery powered horn.

Hi All, Just after some advise on the current situation and if anyone had been in the same situation as myself. I had a Bete Evo 300cc 2015 Trials bike stolen in September 2016, this was insured through a well known high street insurer. When insured the trials bike I explained that it was for off road use and had no v5 or any road lights. Plus also no key for ignition. The trials bike was used for off road practice and competition. When the trials bike got stolen I went through the general routine ie informing police, issued with crime number and also informing the Insurance company. Hi all My bike is ready to be registered with the DVLA - but where can I get an approved DVLA dating certificate from? There doesn't seem to be anyone or any company that I can find who'll do this. Mines a 1977 TR77. Thanks Adrian

Hi I have no documentation for my Sherpa just matching frame and engine numbers. Does anyone know how to search the dvla site with just this? I don't know if it has been road registered, it may have. If not I need to do it. Advice gratefully received. Neil

hi all have just got myself a new 300 factory and am having a devils own job getting it insured as 99% of companys don't recognize the bike as its not on their system have tried MSM but as I had a claim last year the don't want to know can anyone suggest any others out there that can help

Hi there, can anyone recommend a MOT centre in Glasgow area who can MOT my TY250 on a daytime only test. I'm being told that these tests don't exist anymore but there must be a way around it? Thanks

Having just received back my V5 for road registering my TXT 280 (thanks to all those who gave advice) I am now wondering what is an appropriate size of registration plate to get. The same size as my road bike would look daft, and yet some of the ones I saw at a trial today are no bigger than the width of the mud guard. I understand there is a legal requirement but wondered if there was an 'accepted' size for a trials bike?

After many conversations with DVLA/HMRC it now appears despite what the form says that you do NOT need insurance to register a trials bike for road use. You DO however, need an MOT, proof of purchase/age and when it was imported literature etc. NOW you also need it to be registered with the HMRC on their NOVA database. This cannot be done online and you have to telephone them on 0300 200 3700 for a nova1 form. I'm only putting this on here because the DVLA info is scant. Be warned that phone calls to the HMRC CAN TAKE UP TO 30 MIUTES TO BE PUT THROUGH TO THE RIGHT DEPARTMENT. A bit of a whimsical question really. I was watching the video of the Scottish trials and there was some main road riding between venues. I was just wondering how far a field people have been on the road, to or between trials?

As it says in the title! I wanted to road register my bike so I could insure it tpf&t, I'm not that interested in riding it on the road. Maybe the odd road trial and a few local green lanes. I sent the V55 Application form off with insurance, MOT and a letter from Steve Saunders (who has been very helpful) stating that when the bike was imported (in 2012), the NOVA system was not in place. I have just purchased a 2012 Jotagas which I'm trying to get road registered. I believe I will need to have an MOT, tax and insurance to do this. The original importer has been brilliant in supplying their documentation. I also have a 1965 Triumph Tiger Cub Trials which I got classic bike insurance for (£50 fully comp). However I don't think they insure modern bikes. Can anyone recommend an insurance company that would insure either the Jotagas separately or preferably both Trials bikes on a multi bike policy I am more interested in theft as road use will be very occasional at best! Has anybody done this? At the moment everything I have is insured on its frame numbers anyway but it would be nice to have a proper registration number even if it is a Q. I have had a look at DVLA information sheet INF85 and it says "You should send documentation showing the Vehicle Identifcation Number (VIN), engine number and proof of ownership with your application" I could probably in most cases find the original hand written receipts if they haven't fallen apart, but does anybody know exactly what they want? And what I can send if I can't find a receipt? It would be easy enough to take a photo of engine and frame numbers to send along with the application. …

I've lost my V5C and can't remember the registration number. I've downloaded a V62 form to get a replacement V5C, but can't answer what the registration number is... that's why I was looking for the V5C to make a new number plate. I've spoken to the DVLA and they said I can fill in a form to find out if the bike has previously registered, but that could take 8 to 12 weeks for them to do a search. Anyone know how I can find the registration number a bit quicker?
