Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

I've lost my V5C and can't remember the registration number. I've downloaded a V62 form to get a replacement V5C, but can't answer what the registration number is... that's why I was looking for the V5C to make a new number plate. I've spoken to the DVLA and they said I can fill in a form to find out if the bike has previously registered, but that could take 8 to 12 weeks for them to do a search. Anyone know how I can find the registration number a bit quicker?

Having just received back my V5 for road registering my TXT 280 (thanks to all those who gave advice) I am now wondering what is an appropriate size of registration plate to get. The same size as my road bike would look daft, and yet some of the ones I saw at a trial today are no bigger than the width of the mud guard. I understand there is a legal requirement but wondered if there was an 'accepted' size for a trials bike?

A bit of a whimsical question really. I was watching the video of the Scottish trials and there was some main road riding between venues. I was just wondering how far a field people have been on the road, to or between trials?

It was a bit of a faff getting help from Gas Gas in Austria and a lot of time was wasted so thought I'd put what I learned on here to help others. I'm trying to get my SWM on the road to have a crack at some of the Sammy Miller rounds. It seems for older bikes, Carole Nash is generally regarded as about the best bet. Well the old girl has been a bit neglected for a while so it's time to give her a bit of attention. I'm gearing up to get the Sherco road worthy. Don't worry, no "what do I need for an MOT?" questions coming up. All I am trying to find out is with the new road fund licence rules, do you still need to display a tax disc on a motorbike? I understand why there is no need for a car due to numberplate recognition via the fancy cameras, just wondered if the same applies to motorbikes? Ta very much, Chris.

I have been asked if I would stand for the committee on my club (happy to). One of the debates about the new ACU website was about the event insurance - so checking people are ACU members with a valid licence. With no plastic card this is difficult for the organisers on the day. One of the current committee has suggested looking at AMCA membership. I would like to know what is the general view about the ACU insurance? Do people think they are insured whilst riding a trial and what do they think they are covered for? Anyone having much joy with insuring a 300RR? Seem almost impossible to find a company that lists the bigger 288cc motor, the 250 and 260 can be insured no problem. Unfortunately Msm insurance don’t cover my area.

Yet to get in to Trials and want to suss out all of the issues before I jump in... one of which is getting to/from the trials location. It so happens that I live just 4 miles from an official trials site and so I'm wondering if getting a road-reg bike with MOT, tax and insurance and riding it to/from is a reasonable option? As it says in the title! I wanted to road register my bike so I could insure it tpf&t, I'm not that interested in riding it on the road. Maybe the odd road trial and a few local green lanes. I sent the V55 Application form off with insurance, MOT and a letter from Steve Saunders (who has been very helpful) stating that when the bike was imported (in 2012), the NOVA system was not in place. I also note that Steve Saunders has supplied a V267 (Declaration that a vehicle is new) to the DVLA since my original application. I can only assume the DVLA asked him for this themselves.
