Montesa

  1. Started by 2stroke4stroke,

This goes on a bit but please bear with me, I'd like to know if anyone has had similar problems and solved them. I got my 2009 in the middle of last year. Starting was never the best (I know the correct technique of no throttle etc) but has deteriorated to the point where at two trials last week I had to reset the system several times at almost every section to get the thing to go. Once running it does so perfectly with no suggestion of a problem. New plug and valves correctly gapped, sufficient slack in the cable, properly oiled air filter. Yesterday I finally managed to get use of a revcounter – tickover was rather high at 2200 but now set to 1850. It then s…

Any opinions on the Nissin master cylinder setup? Is it a noticeable difference or just nice bling? Thanks, Mark G

  4. Montesa 4RT Best bike you have ever owned? I think people give the 4rt a bit of a hard time but i have had my 4RT since new (2005) and has not missed a beat! Build quality is un-beatable and in my opinion the best bike for grip around! Excellent suspension, ride, and looks! I think they deserve a bit more credit for a 6 year old design!

Just bought a Cota 247. Frame number 21M42** Engine is a right hand gear change. Frame looks to have been painted a weird pale blue years ago (looks hideous). I need to know what year it is please. I suspect 1971. Gonna teach my daughter to ride it then give it a proper restoration. Thanks in advance.

Hi there. I'm going to fit a new bashplate to my montesa. I see CSP do one and Mitani do a few too. Does anybody have one of these fitted so I can see from underneath the bike what extra they actually protect. The bike is actually a brand new 2020 bike that some guy had as an ornament and I would like to protect the underside as best I can as my local practice area is all streams and rocks. My beta is scuffed to hell on the frame near the foot peg hangers. I would rather avoid the same happening on this lovely mont.

I love my new 4rt but have recently had an issue and wanted to share my experience to hopefully save somebody else time and money. My bike started cutting out on me at a trial, sometimes I was riding between sections in 3rd and 4ty gear, sometimes I was in sections in 1st and 2nd gear, it sometimes would kick straight back up and sometimes it would take 10 kicks to get it going again. I rang the dealer “inch perfect trials” and explained the problem, it sounded to them as though it was the bank sensor so John talked me through how to by pass it. We hoped that sorted it but after going out to practice I soon realised it wasn’t that. I spoke again to…

My 05 4rt has just started playing up. Been running fine then last weekend Ok for first couple of laps then on returning back up to the car park struggled to rev out eventually getting worse - sounds bit like running out of fuel or a choke being left on with a carb bike. Stopped bike and started ok then gets worse again - seems ok in section for a while but not when riding back to start. Changed plug, checked every connection, cleaned throttle body etc. Checked tappits and general look round during last the week. Stripped all fuel tank and ancillaries out - Went out yesterday and still doing it. Seems worse when ridding slowly up rock streams for 10 mins then when t…

1st gear on the 4ride,standard 10/41 gearing,is the same as 2nd gear on the 4rt on 10/41 gearing. My question is if you ride a Montesa 4rt on 10/41 gearing what would you use 2nd gear for.

Hey Guys, Got myself a 315R last weekend & am now looking at servicing the bike as it hasn't been touched since new (No mods) & has been sat for 2 years also. First up, I have already seen the clutch drag issues & struggle to get it into neutral with the engine running / hot so I was looking at the heavy duty clutch plates (Link). These plates are friction plates only, should I be replacing the steel plates at the same time also (Even if showing no signs of wear) due to the size of the new plates? Also, the oil that I have seen recommended (HTX740) is hard to come by in the UK, does anyone have an alternative to suggest? One last thing! Any other highly re…

I am thinking of revisiting this model, I would use it in trials at a low club level, Now they are so old what's the reality of obtaining parts, gaskets engine parts, gearbox parts etc in the event of a 23 yr old part giving up? Is it scouring the net looking for a used part or certain items being unobtainable... Advise please

Hi! I recently got a Mont MH 349 - 1985, stunning condition, however I have had a go on it and found that its possibly running way too rich, it's fluffy and with a bit of white smoke. It has the Standard Amal Carb on it, however I do have a Mikuni for it. A few questions; 1. Would it be possible for someone to confirm what jets should be in the amal carb? *EDIT* the jets in my Amal Carb are pilot ~ 30; Main ~ 145; Slide ~ 35; Needle ~ ? (was in the middle setting of 3) 2. I got the bike with the Mikuni carb on it, it tick over and revs out with this carb on it, but when its under load - ie. just setting off in 1st gear - it starts to die, like fuel starvation. Are the…

I've had my new bike out for one ride so far, and have a little hr meter with RPM guage that tracks max rpm's and it seems to be reading low.. At idle the numbers seem logical, but when revved out it seems low. So what is approximately our max rpm? I would have assumed over 10,000.. But maybe with the heavy flywheel and restrictive exhaust it just can't get there? Anyone?

Hi, I’m going to try and get my Cota 348 road registered. Looks like it’s going to be a right pain, but I’m going to give it a go. I can’t find an engine number but the frame number is 17M7**7 according to a website I’ve looked at, the number should begin 51M http://www.lamaneta.org/numerochasis/montesa.html Any thoughts ? Cheers, Tim
