My bike has been getting harder to start when hot so i thought i would check the valve clearances. The problem is when i set the flywheel to the T top dead center mark the rocker arms are solid with no movement at all. Can this be correct? or am i doing something stupid.

Sandifords web site news article posted 30/9/05 reported the new '06 model would be in the dealers in 3 to 4 weeks, which is 3rd or 4th week in October Now it is 1st week in November and still no news. Anyone got any gossip they want to tell me, as my bike for part ex has been prepped to hand to the dealer for 2 weeks now, and still no news I am a patient person, but I know of people who have ordered from dealers and are already fed up of waiting, having sold their old bikes. JL, JS and NB could be reeping the benefits for anyone anxious enough to get their hands on a 2006 model. So spill the beans if you've heard owt

Hey all I may be getting a 4rt with a 2 map PTB soon and was wondering what maps people recommend. Or is the standard maps the best to use. I have heard mentions of Maria Sanz map being very good but unsure how that is different from standard. I will get a shop to redo the maps for me until a get my laptop working so I would like to know what to ask for. I was thinking something along the line of: map 1: A road/ fast map as I ride alot of trails on the bike. But I am unsure the best way to achieve fast acceleration and top speed map 2: something a little mellower with lots of torque. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Scott

My 4rt is getting to be a pain to start when it's warm. From cold it will start on the 1st kick virtually every time but when it's warm it's hard going. It's only 14 weeks old, the air filter is spotless as is the plug, I only use good fuel not supermarket rubbish and the tick over if anything is a bit on the high side. When it does fire up it struggles to pick up and then dies, I kick it over slow with full throttle to reset it and this doesn't work but like I said when it's cold, first time Any thoughts?? Andy

A brief history for your diagnostic pleasure: - Its a 4 month old 2017 4RT, been ridden plenty, but like new - no knocks or damage - running the right transmission oil - The clutch has always felt odd to me - really on and off - but I put it down to new bike, newby on trials - Recently it became wildly erratic - super jumpy, sometime won't engage, then its back - The engagement point seems to move around then suddenly it won't engage at all - Thinking it must be an air problem I've bled the system three times, the last bottoms up, not a bubble - Stock MC looks fine, no leaks, don't see any cable leaks TTF is going on! Does this sound like a symptom y…

Hi, my 2001 315 has developed a strange intermittant fault. After starting and running normally it will suddenly start running really rough, no power and won't rev. If I stop the engine and immediately re start, the fault has gone and it will run perfectly again. This sometimes happens after an hour or so of riding, but has happened almost straight after starting. It may not re-occur again for another hour, or it may happen after 15 minutes, but again if I cut the engine and re start the engine runs perfectly again. I have stripped the carb but found nothing amiss, I have taken off the mag cover but everything was ok in there. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chippy.

How does mapping work, altering settings for different terrain. I have been told you can bluetooth message to bike to change it. Surely this is Bull****. Can someone explain how injection system works.

Hi I'm New to trials and have bought a 2014 4rt I love the bike but have one little problem! Is there an upgrade available for the rear brake system as I have had nothing but problems with the standard rear setup 1st the master cylinder gave up after 2 months fixed that and then the rear caliper seals started leaking re fitted that then the blead nipple started leaking so tightened it and it snapped off (with very little pressure) Any help or advice would be good as I'm New to trials so am not 100% with mods and parts that can be retro fitted / upgraded Thanks Mike

I quiet fancy an upgrade from my trusty 09 250 4rt But As the advert goes I really like the Repsol and I also really like the new RR (and think the showa suspended bikes are the best) But Is a standard 250 with say an Ohlins rear shock be the Aldi version? The std bike is £2000 cheaper and I'm sure there would be change out of that even if you change tyres as well to Michelins. I really do want a Repsol but my tight northern upbringing is making me ask the question!!!. I have no knowledge of the tech forks so any input appreciated.

I'am the proud owner of a barely used 03 Montesa. Would like to know what gaurds you may have found to be worth the money? I see there is long fork gaurds and short fork gaurds, aluminum ones and carbonfiber. Also, case covers, head pipe protectors and so on. The gaurd for a thrown chain looks like money well spent. Please list any more Ideas and also dealers who carry these Items and stock parts. This machine is scratchless, I'am really having a hard time wanting to ride it, I'am in the (stare at it stage of ownership). Sam

My 315r has been thru some rougher days, the fender is replaced (from red to a grey one) and the gas tank was wrapped in a worn down carbonfiber-look-a-like vinyl when I got it. Removed the wrap and my next move is to re-wrap it with another vinyl for now (cheap and easy to fix when damaged). But the thing is, I don't want the tank and fender to be "naked" so to speak, so I want to replace the fender decal/sticker with a new one, so I scanned the one I removed from the grey fender and Are right now in the process of outlining it to get the shape right for a test print. Am I wasting my time because this has already been done or is it something that would interest the r…

Hello, I'm having issues with the clutch on my 348. Firstly, it slips if I kick it through a compression, so to start it I use the decompressor to get it to TDC and give it a kick from there, that works. I tried adjusting it to give me enough bite to enable it to be kicked straight through, this worked, and then to test if it was now dragging, I put the front wheel against a fence (it's a good job), and knocked it into gear, even with the clutch pulled in fully, the rear spun. After a lot of adjusting whilst it was firmly stuck against the fence, I've adjusted it so the clutch drag is bearable, I can't move the bike backwards in gear, but it doesn't move forwards on i…

On the way to today's trial when I heard this on the radio. John Wayne,William Shatner and Neil Armstrong were all Montesa owners! I've been around a while but never heard anything like this. Certainly interesting if it is the case. Is it a giant leap for mankind or should Scotty just been me up?

Second year at Hawkstone and it was mint. But again this year the team 4RT's are deffinatly running more than just 'super unleaded' in the tank ! Does anyone know what it actually is ? . Smells like the stuff you would use on model petrol engines or something ... or is it a mix of that and normal fuel ??. If it is some sort of high octane fuel then would this shorten the life of the engine components ?, has anyone used it and what is the differance in the power charactristics ? It's a real 'petrol head' subject this one (pardon the pun, couldnt resist) Hard luck to Doug, I thought he put in a good ride on the sections that I was lucky enough to see him on... he did…

Has anybody removed all the ristrictors in the exhaust yet. Had my bike since November and left all the ristictors in place. After experimenting with removing the spark arrestor, i now have removed collar A front pipe and collar B middle box and the rear spark arrestor. Have to say the bike is transformed. Bottom end is as before but power feels increased and comes in with no delay. The bike also starts first time when warm. unlike before. I think this is how the bike is supposed to be but comes fully ristictored due to noise level under load. Note:- no middle box gaskets yet so have to use CR mx

Hiya all, I've taken two springs out of my 4rt clutch and put dimpled plates in which has given a lovely clutch but slips in high gears. I am looking for a heavier duty spring to replace two of the existing 4 springs with to stop it slipping. Problem is that the 4rt ones are 27.6mm long and the uprated 315 ones are 39mm. Anyone know of where to get hold of 27mm uprated springs?

Hello there, I have 315r with piston slap. It wasnt to loud and only on tickover and low revs. I took the engine out this morning and took off the head and cylinder. The piston and barrel look very good with no signs of any wear, scratches or scores. The gudgin pin is noticably worn and small end has a little play, up and down movement, and there is some movement, very little on the big end. Now here is my dilema, I know that a new pin and small end will improve things but am I risking it by not changing the crank aswell and then if I change the crankshaft I should probably do the whole lot , thanks
