Montesa

Really do quite fancy a 2014 4RT but folk keep informing me they have no grip in the mud. Is this just a myth? Half of them probably haven't ridden one. Is the new bike better than the old bike? Really is an important factor as up here in Scotland riding conditions are often boggy and muddy. I went from a SR 280 Scorpa which I loved to a Tr280 Ossa. The ossa is a great bike but just feels too light in the front end for me. I am not an expert rider and just really do the clubman route so don't really need the lightest most flickable bike out there and prefer the more stable feel of the scorpa ( even though it was more tiring ) I rode a 2008 4rt last week and it was gre…

Chaps & Chapets Can some one help me with this one? On a normal carb the idle adjustment only affects pure idle and just off the pilot jet. The questions is: on the 2014 Repsol fuel injection system, does the idle screw still act like a standard carb idle screw or does it affect the other parts of the RPM range also. In other words does opening up the idle screw let more air in at more than just low idle type RPM’s? I dont think it does but I want to get some more opinions on this!!! If it only affects idle then how do I get more air in at the higher RPM’s? Mapping? Thanks BillyT

Right - I was called this afternoon to advise which oil a mate should put in his 4RT gearbox. I have used Elf HTX 740 in all my Monts and never had any problems and plan to continue using it. However, there now seems to be a supply problem especially since BVM's departure from here in West Country. I always bought it there. I have had quick scout on the internet and only found two suppliers: Splat Shop - out of stock WP Racing - you have to buy a box of 18 x 1 litre bottles for £378 (inc. VAT) + delivery, which is bl++dy expensive! Question: who else has ELF HTX 740 for sale in the trials world at a sensible price? B & B , M Sport (Munch), ???

Hi Just a question about my 4 RT. I just know it needs a few kicks because there is no battery fitted. I'm an ex Jedi after all...I know this. I've searched but can't find anything regarding the rights and wrongs of fitting a batty to the bike. Want to run up the FI prior to kicking. There are a few options these days that are super compact, so I wondered if any of you have done this as a mod? Any electrical issues if plumbing into the generator output? The bonus would be that I could run some lights off it as I keep getting caught out early eves. Thanks. Chris.

  10. Hi all, Just picked up on non-running Cota 247 (1975-ish), and would like to get it going. It has decent compression, good spark (at least outside the cylinder on the two plugs I tried), and it is getting fuel. I even tried a shot of ether starting fluid in the carby and cylinder, but it won't even pop...nothing at all. Any ideas on what to check?

Hello all together, Maybe someone has a few informations for me. In our club we had a few 4RT from all years. I have the 2017 standard version and I'm super happy with it, my buddy tried it, found it also great and bought one. Modell 2018. We all thought this is exactly the same bike (not the bahplatte, chainguard and decals ;-)) But when we swaped bikes there was this "WTF-moment" the 2018 modell seems to have much more power in the topend, and also more agressive at low rpm. All bikes are in "fullpower-mode". So my question is: Is it only a new mapping in the ECU or did they changed something mechanicaly, like more compression diffrent camshaft.... When it is only …

The sticker on my rear mudguard has starting lifting at the edges. Does anyone know of the best way to re stick them down? I have tried super glue in the past but it dry's very hard and seems to lose it's bond when the mudguard flexes. Thanks Scragg

O.k, I know it's been covered many times but I'm looking for something I may have missed. I recently replaced my 2014 clutch plates with a set of Apico friction plates and dimpled discs. I also used the correct Elf oil. However I continue to get enough clutch drag to have to put it in neutral to start (Just like my Tiger Cub!). Selecting gears becomes difficult once the bike is hot and neutral is pretty much impossible to find at any time with the engine running. I currently have the clutch out and have polished out some very shallow marks in the clutch basket fingers with 800 wet and dry. (mainly on the drive side). I will also dress all the fingers on the …

Just bought a 2004 315r and want to tidy it up and give it a once over. Have fitted some new clutch plates to hopefully sort out a bit of clutch drag and all the usual stuff, oil change, filter, plug etc but I want to repack the silencer and decoke the mid box as it looks a bit gungy!! Whats the best/easiest way of doing it ? Any help greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know where I might get a "Lampkin Replica" graphics set from? Cheers.

Hi everyone I'm beginning to wish I hadn't bought this montesa now, I've just rebuilt the carb after the animal that owned it previous had bodged just about everything, it now runs sweet but the engine sounds terrible, I've removed the flywheel cover and there is play in the main bearings. Can anyone give me any rough Gide line on what these engines cost to rebuild? I'm an engine reconditioned so the labour isn't an issue I've never bought 2 stroke engine parts before. And are the engine parts available, bearings gaskets piston kit etc Where's the best place to get the parts?

Any suggestions on how front and rear sag/setup should be on a Repsol 4RT? I have the Jitsie linkage and rear set pegs. I was wondering if there was any standardized protocol like KTM's 'golden rule' for example. Thanks, Brad

  19. Hi, I'm new here, from Belgium and loving my Montesa Cota 315 R (year 2000). Unfortunately I'm not desperatly seeking Susan but desperatly seeking the PDF manual (workshop) for my bike. It seems impossible to find. I also did not get the manual when I bought my bike (secnod hand). I already replaced the steering head bearings, fork oil (my god what a difference) but now I need to replace the rear wheel bearings and some other stuff... Can someone help me? Also, my Monty is very nice, but the throttle is a bit erm, woosh now and then... I'd like it to be snappier... I checked reed valves etc but they are in excellent condition. Also checked and cleaned the carb and t…
