  1. the excellent programme available at the start will detail all the sections on both days.. 50% of the sections are roadside and you ll have no trouble parking your bikes/ car up and seeing the action..
  2. ring your dealer or lampkins themsleves, i ummed and arrgh and it was all sorted with a 5 minute phone call
  3. that is badly damaged not only have the coils gone but so have the poles and then you have the plate issue.. dont buy sh. invest some cash in a new one, i have seen alternatives to beta on these pages if your really strapped but in my opinion i'd be ring beta and asking for a price at least... make sure its fitted properly and nice and secure..
  4. some excellent arguments trialtrial. electric bikes are certainly the way forward. if as much money had been spent by honda on electric as it has on fourstrokes then trials bikes today would be electric powered. the issues as i understand them are much as you have pointed out. batteries are getting smaller and lighter they are still costly and have a life cycle of maximum 3 years they also need regular maintenance and a controlled enviroment whilst recharging.. some explode during charging.. duration is being improved and 3hrs is achievable.. after all a trials bike stands still for much of the day. but when in use eg on and off the trottle , often violently, will reduce run time dramatically electric motors are smaller and lighter and durable and capable of infinite tuning. weight and physical size are issues trials at the moment is a concept that has developed over 100 years using essentially the same componenets suspension at both ends hand and foot controls and an internal combustion engine. it might be the case that bike appearance will change with the use of electric power to optimise power delivery/ maintenace etc you might / will see a bike with all the controls on the handle bars.. no clutch? no gears?
  5. i'd start by asking the guys on the yorkshire classic web page. Paul jackson would be my first call. he not only makes frames specifically for trials but modifys existing frames. ask for an opinion but but clear about what it is you want to build and the level of the rider.. ie a bike to win championships on with trick everything or a competant bike using mostly standard stuff.
  6. something simple here.. the plug has a big FAT spark you ve confirmed that and it gets moist you ve confirmed that so it has fuel and an ignition source. i'd advance the ignition so it ll start easier and lean off the gas heat the plug up as mentioned above and tow it behind a car on a tarmac surface with the rear tyre fully inflated to bump start it in third gear or higher. with spark and fuel it should at least attempt to start..

    Fantic 200

do a search on these pages its in there somewhere plus a photo of another solution i was certainly a contributor i may have even stated the thread.
  8. that was an expensive trip to miss then..
  9. i have had an 03 beta from new, never had an issue. i do though remove the flywheel cover after cleaning and leave it off until i load the bike up.. its wthe work of a couple of minutes and ensures the flywheel stator can breathe and lose any moisture dampness in thier..
  10. nice blog and fantastic quality work. better than new!
  11. i dont know if i'm a good customer or not as i ve only ever bought one beta new in 2003. i still have it and use it every year the boys know thier stuff at lampkins ring up monday post trial and get the gear wednesday latest if they say they have something they have it end of. great advert for a small business. decent product, great knowledge of importer, spares availability off the shelf, fast delivery.. i regret i wont be buying a new beta cos the old ones still mor capable and in better mechanical knick than i am..
  12. pretty poor decsion in my opinion. rode my mk3 pamp in the lakes and dales rounds, nice to ride round a bit triky in sections but rideable and i added to the clubs income. i was the only trail bike a couple of years ago in the lakes and one of about 8 in the dales in 2010. worthy no cost addition to the series i'd have thought..
  13. the basics for a competant cub that is eligble for 99% of pre 65 clubs are actually fairly simple. you d want a later engine ( square for fashion not for function), a well sorted amal concentric carb, nicely set up heavyweight cub or c15 forks, new rear shocks ( any new trials shocks would be better than std..) miller footrests and brackets domino slow throttle wide rear swingarm , alloy rims and electronic ignition.. that should be good enough to ride through all clubs p65 sections and certainly even in an ultra competative club would be enough for a good rider to place well on. i wrote an article for the club news letter describing the mods done to a std bike that was then used to win the welsh experts trial in the early sixties and the mods were very basic very..
  14. clean the carb out and use an air gun or canned air through all the jets etc clean the airfilter and oil it clean the airbox and the pipework connecting it to the carb. replace the fuel filter. you could spend as much as 4 quid and an hour doing that lot. run the bike get it nice and warm, get it on a nice flat piece of land car park etc. the bike should run 'fairly' smoothly in first gear with no throttle getting that zero throttle run as smooth as possible is the aim use the air/ petrol screw and the tickover screw to achieve this start with the air/ petrol screw 1.5 turns out and raise the tickover so that the bike fast idles turning the air/ petrol screw should make it run fast one way and slow the other get it to where it runs faster and turn the tickover screw out the bike should run slower as it runs more on the pilot jet. getting this sweet spot could take a little while of experimenting but only try one screw at a time and remember where it was before you started.. do half turns then qtr the eight till your on the money.. patience is your friend..
  15. you ll need plenty of bike time and plenty of rockery practice, Yorkshire classic have just the tsuff with 3 or 4 good trials in March April. the Captains nr halifax and the championship round at litton are renowned for thier rocks and streams, ideal Scottish practice trials..
  16. i ve completed the questionaire and i would have misgivings about this if the mot testing of older vehicles had any value.. with my 1927 car.. no brake lights no seat belts no rear brakes it sailed through each year as even with the testers guidance the poor guys dont have any experience of cars that age. with my pre 65 bikes they go through on a nod frankly im amazed that the govt hasnt reviewed the free road fund licence for older vehicles.. free is good but realistically other people are subsidising it so i think we should pay a realistic admin fee of say 25 quid to maintain the registration and pay for discs etc.. after all older vehicles pollute more and frankly if you can afford a classic vehicle 25 quid isnt going to sink the ship.. some spend twice that on cleaning products!!
  17. spot on Woody unless you can really tell the difference and make something of it you'd be wasting money .. a lot.. given the same bike and rider weight i ve just gone from the 'alloy' betors ( only alloy in very few places) to a set of black falcons the difference in grip is measurable for me as even a poor rider.. the betors were far too hard and bounced the falcons move and grip and the falcons weigh less..
  18. budget van insurance .. been cheapest by far for last 3 years for me..
  19. i have a 32a villiers lump with a 4spd trials box. what is the common thought on rear sprocket size?
  20. i have 40mm spacers in mine plus 200ml of 15 wt fork oil keeps my 100kilo of weight going up and down nicely
  21. well in the worlds best p65 trials club i havent seen a pair in use.. (i suppose for the sake of the PC sensitivitys i should say 'probably' but if your local you know probably doesnt come into it..)
  22. i dont think there is any argument that the correct licence was not held at the time BG. the issue of never been asked to produce a licence always baffles me. in car rallying you have to have your licence and the cars licence no licence no drive simples and yet in trials with 5k bikes we cant show a 10 quid card cos it costs too much.. lazy and incompetant riders would soon get the idea if clubs did ask for your licence its a tenner BG will no doubt relate thst its much more oop north and in spain its more by several hundreds.. you bet they sjhow theres>> get em out lads.. one club local to us lost a piece of land this year when someone put thier foot in a rabbit hole and bypassed the club and the farmer and went straight to the titled person that owns the land.. end of trials use of land..
  23. the bike is more than capable the only thing holding it back is you.. thats about as valuable a piece of trials knowledge you ll find.
  24. our 5 yr old daughter is getting one in a fornight for her 6th birthday..
