JTX 270 will be watercooled if its the water pump seal then the the coolant level should have dropped. doubt its ally clutch plates causing the oil to go grey but hey, I'm an accountant !

Thanks for the that Peter I'm finding that I dont have as much feedback in the clutch system as I did on my sherco so its harder to predict where the bite point is. Most of the GGUK team run the large master cylinder and as I have one lying around I thought I may as well try it. If my new bike has any issues I think that nice Copemech chap will be considerate and not say why didnt you buy another sherco you baldy fool ! Evening Cope ........

I cant prove it but I think the Michelin has developed, for example at one point the X11 had a rib around the side wall which has now disapearred so something must have changed even if the name of the tyre hasnt. I still think the Michelin is the best value as it still grips when it looks finished.

Hi Folks just got a new 09 280 and I'd like to fit a larger clutch master cylinder and hose which I already have but which is designed for brake fluid not mineral oil. I had thought I would need to change the seals in the clutch case to suit brake fluid but my dealer tells me that they are now coated and will work with either mineral oil or brake fluid. Before I trash the seals in my new bike can anyone confirm this ? MANY THANKS

You can reduce the water getting in by taping up under the mudguard where it meets the back of the filter box and using silicone to seal the frame to the airbox above the carb and next to the shock. Finally silicone the mudguard to the filter box along the side and tape up the holes in the mudguard on the left side. But if its really wet, like SSDT wet, you should also fit a tyre valve with the core removed to the underside of the filter box. If it rains take the cap off and any water will drain out. You can replace the valve cap when its not raining, if you do this mod grease the inside of the filter box where it meets the carb hose to catch any muck before it gets to the carb. The valve mod also means if you do drown it you dont need to remove the filter box to get the water out.

How you doing addict ? Mont disc has bigger cutaways so try fitting a Gas Gas disc instead, this worked for a mate of mine. Best pads for performance I have found are DP (try shirty) but they damaged the discs on my scorpa. Goldfren pads are a good middle of the road option.

I used to run normal pressure 6 and 4 and only ever had one puncture and that was the year I was out of time . My theory was if you have higher pressure you have less grip and therefore spend more time pushing the bike than riding it, especially if its wet. Your not really much better off in terms of time and you have lost more in the sections with higher pressures.

I agree, years ago I believe riding in streams was banned in Germany, the French 5 day is unlikely to run again due to land access problems, we have SSI over here. If Spain cant use off road then gas gas, sherco and montesa are not going to last long ! I think our days of using the countryside may be numbered but I hope we can continue for a good while. After that we need wasteland and man made sections, giving up is not an option !

Spud people have different levels of strength and also your body will adjust to a heavier clutch in time. On my previous betas the clutch hasnt been a problem but on recent try of a mates 08 Beta my arm was pumping up inside 10 mins. I dont know if this is because the Beta clutch is now heavier or because I am now used to a lighter clutch on my Sherco ?

Portman I know what you mean but my bike did the SSDT with sealed bearings and it was fine. I only changed them as a precaution, my dealer told me of the carbon issue mentioned above and given 07 and 08 Shercos have given a lot less trouble I'm assuming this theory is correct.

On the SYR change the damping on the shock so that it returns faster, if that doesnt work try winding up the spring a little. On the beta move the lever down the handlebar so its nearer the handlebar clamp. Also check the beta forum as Dan Williams mentioned previously removing two of the springs and filing the clutch plate tabs.

My 07 Sherco came with sealed bearings I initially thought this must be an error but it wasnt. Wont fitting sealed bearings next time cure your problem ? The bearings are c4

Just as an example atomant he maybe is referring to the 3 09 pros in my home centre which have all been back to the dealers as they broke the last tooth off the Dairy Lea style kickstart gear. I love the pro to ride but its not the most reliable bike. All the bikes have problems and you have to trade what you like to ride with the faults your prepared to accept before you buy. can we get back to xispa now
