  1. The sharks fin at the rear sprocket is probably the most important. As collyolly says, if it isnt there there should be a bracket on the swingarm to replace one.
  2. Birkett told myself back in '08 that for Joe Baker, who was the best uk rider on a scorpa at the time, the timing was advanced a far as the slots would let it. I never quite went that far, about halfway. I always found the water pump hose extrememly vunerable, doubt trimming the sump would be advisable. Birkett also made a pump housing that had the outlet turn the 90 degrees in alloy rather than the hose, making it less vunerable to rocks
  3. Advance the timing, the only thing you will ever need to do
  4. Did honda ever make a good 2T? And dont say "yes the 315"

    2017 clutch

Had a gg where the bolt head had sheared and was just sitting there blocking the slave cylinder. Really lucky it didnt work itself out and cause damage. Do it ASAP! Some people run without the bolt in place to no detriment of the bike. I prefer running with it. Regarding thread lock, it probably wouldnt do any harm, just be careful not to block the bolts centre hole. If youre doing this yourself, when you have the clutch cover off, remember to keep the water pump drive aligned and the kickstart shim in place. 10 minute job btw
  6. Totally understand what you are saying, but the plastic type isnt half as bad you think.
  7. Broadly speaking Dry and tight = 1st Dry and open = 2nd Wet and tight = 2nd Wet and open = 3rd
  8. The bike sounds 99% perfect except the smoke, so why bother too much about it if its the only symptom? Maybe you are under exaggerating these moderate hills. Most trials bikes will smoke heavily after a blast about and gasgas's even melt the rear tail pipe after a prolonged hard spell!!! What oil and what ratio are you running?
  9. As said above, sticking with your fellow competitors is a must! Watching someone ride your line takes away 10 minutes of trying to work out where you are going. And when you watch a few riders you can work out which line you fancy the most. Dont ride first, but dont fall too far back you lose sight of the riders in your grade. Also, if the event is muddy, be aware that on the second or third lap the ideal line may change. And last but not least, dont get disheartened!!!! You may just be unlucky that the first event you go to could be a hard one, and next week could be easier and you would love it.
  10. I totally agree with your assessment of the gaernes, so comfortable, but a little light on protection especially when wet. I have a pair of sidi zeros at the moment and im very happy. Stiffer sole so more suppport from a bending point of view but reduced feel. Stiffer leather, slightly more protecion but they take a while to break in. Also have great heel protection. Its always a compromise
  11. Usually if you put the triangle in upside down on a gasgas it jacks it up even further lol
  12. As a rough guide, with the bike on the ground with no rider, lift the rear end by grabbing the silencer. There shouldnt be more than about 20 mm sag.
  13. What sag are you running in the rear shock, maybe the spring preload needs increased...
  14. Scorpa SY or the sherco variety?
  15. Well said. And from the larger talent pool that motogp and motox draw from, probably more talented. but i get what the original poster says, sometimes its just easier to see the skill on show at trials
  16. All i can say is make sure you kick it hard from the top, dont push the kickstarter down a quarter of the way and then kick it hard. You could kick for a month of sundays and it would never go like that.
  17. Im glad we can agree on something! lol They did and they didnt. We never do live in a ideal world. I understand Tong ticks more boxes (in my eyes the wrong boxes) than most venues, trials just seems to be becoming less and less accessible. Its akin to F1 preferring a street circuit in some far away land while silverstone, a proper circuit, is at threat. Of all the venues for the british GP over all the years, im sorry to say i think Tong is the worst. Maybe its just a sign of the times
  18. As 2stroke4stroke says you probably should have had the bike started ASAP. I know a guy who waited till monday, after the trial on saturday and by this time the main bearings were pitted (sounded like a cement mixer) and needed replacing
  19. The fact you still dont know where im talking about when i say newcastle makes me wonder why im having this debate with you. The problem is those two were making the same mistake as yourself, taking into account access for big trucks. I go to a trial to be entertained, to see good sections, not to look at the trucks in the paddock. Its a sad day when access for the team trucks takes precedent over anything else.
  20. The reason stated above for bangor not running is incorrect newcastle the town, not the city no where in yorkshire was found suitable? Says who?
  21. I couldnt agree more. The whole idea of making sections that are more typical of spanish terrain than british terrain really annoys me, virtually to the point of why bother? Isnt the whole idea of a world series to produce a calender with varying terrain? It just seems to be "spainish like" terrain on repeat, and then everyone wonders why spain win everything. It reminds me of when the british mx gp moved from farleigh (100% grass) to hawkstone (100% sand), the dutch thought they had struck gold! bar Thorpe, the chances of a british winner at a british gp all but vanished! Just look how dabill went in a wet japan and imagine how he could go in a venue like hoghton towers. Dont we want the possibility of a british winner? because while we keep marking out sections for the spanish that will never ever happen. Everyone always goes on about when will bou or Raga ride the SSDT, and its a weekly joke at a local muddy trial, "i bet bou wouldnt get up that in the mud". Why not make them?! The british gp is our chance to mark out a proper british trial. What do we do, bring in big rocks and mark out indoor style sections. What a joke. All this pandering to the big wigs to provide facilities commensurate with the team's big trucks, just tell them in advance they are going to be parking in a grass field and if they dont like it, then dont bother turning up.
  22. Wavy discs are to clean the pad surface, because there is a leading edge to scrape the mud off. Ride through a muddy puddle and a brake with a wavy disc will return its braking efficiency quicker than a plain disc. Plain discs just accumulate a dirty scum on the braking surface. An increase in leading edge area also increases brake performance in the dry, because there will be an increase in bite, something required for low speed trials. Pad life and braking performance are usually inversely proportional, you cant have both. All of this depends how standard you want to keep the bike looking but IMO a wavy disc will provide better braking.
  23. If you are referring to the clutch centre bolt then no, your bike has a different clutch to a pro
