Twinshock

Most twinshock trials bikes have non-parrellel triple clamps, with the forks kicked out about 1.5degrees more than the steering stem rake. Can anybody tell me what the advantage is of this set-up (over parrallel triples)? I've read that they're supposed to be better at/near full-lock, but I don't know if thats correct or why/why-not. Can anyone enlighten us?

Get it while you can... i have finaly managed to put this old VHS tape onto DVD and upload it onto youtube, it only lasts about 5mins . Entitled "Two stroke Cowboys " it is aerial coverage of the Scott from the early/mid seventies i suppose it shouldnt be there , copyright and all that and if anyone objects i will remove it , but it`s a little gem

Hi - I need to upgrade my TLR200 shocks and there is little price difference between NJB Expert, Trikshoxs or Betors. I have no experience with any of them and I am a non competitive rider looking at mixed trial/trail use. Although I can envisage that I might try competition at clubman level at some stage. I seek opinions based on your experience with the various brands.

This beauty is the latest addition to my bike collection. It's in Colorado so it will be about a month before I get 'hold of it. Looks like the "infidels" have had there way with it. I just feel lucky it hasn't been converted into a chopper yet. I hope to track down original seat, fenders, one side panel and wwhatever else it needs to get back to it's original glorious state. I must be sick.

Never rode all twinshocks , just curious what is the best twinshock bike frame geometry/handling wise.. Yamaha TY Suzuki Beamish Fantic 200 Kawasaki KT Bultaco Montesa Cota Ossa MAR Honda TL may be more. you can suggest . Regards

I've recently bought a 199 Bult with an aftermarket frame which I thought at first to be a Miller frame circa 78,79.I`m now pretty sure it isn't.Anybody know about Mick Whitlock Bultaco frames?It's not one of Steve Wilsons and I can't think of anybody else who made chrome Bultaco frames in any sort of quantity.

Had a fuel leak from my filter on Sunday, figured it wasn't a problem I'd just bypass it ... except that the filter has been doing a lot of filtering, and I could see all the rust going down to the carb after putting a new clear hose on (fortunately didn't try to start the bike, so I don't need to rebuild the carb!) So ... what's the best way to clear out the worst of the rot from a steel tank? I just want it to be ok through this summer really, not worried about a permanent fix. So far the suggestions are lead shot, vinegar, or just swill it out with fuel.

Looking at Falcons available localy and saw some info on NJB expert? shocks, are they worth the effort or should I stick with what I know ? Thanks for any and all veiws... Glenn

What have you been doing to prepare a standard machine for trials. My only mod to date is to lower and move rearwards the footrests. What else is worth doing? Do the wiseco pistons for yz/dt/it fit the ty what code number do I look for? Do Boysen have reeds for the ty if so what is the code? What gearing are you using. What carb jetting for a standard engine. Many thanks for youb help

Howdy folks.Any one here be intrested in competeing in a premiere twinshock road trial some time in the autunm next year. The idea being that there is no big meeting for twinshock riders in the calender only the ACU classic series,the pre65 boys have the scotish,manx and bonanza, so we in the herefordshire classic trials club want to put on an event for the twinshock brigade. Useing terrain in the same part of the county as an old national trial was once held. No dates at the mo as we dont want to clash with the ACU classic series. Anyone intersted? Cheers.

I have just bought a Montesa Cota 330. I believe it is a 1985 model but that's just a guess at the moment. The bike is a non runner at the moment but almost complete. The previous owner said it ran but not too well, they thought it was carb so fiddled with it and now can't start it at all!! The first thing I noticed was the air box is missing and someone has fitted a aftermarket foam filter. Does anyone know of an airbox for sale? The second thing I noticed was the whole fork and wheel assy. has been fitted backwards!! Handling would be interesting and the brake next to useless as it's relying on the trailing edge. Building a bike and need a front wheel, so which had the best brake ?

Hi there eveyone, I'm new to this forum (I've browsed it before), I have just bought a fantic 200, (just to muck about on, no comps) it's a runner but with problems.......can't get it to tickover properly, and it has a starting problem........sometimes 1st kick and away she goes........sometimes it just will not start.....!!! Tried allsort but I now think I might need to replace the carb. I might go for one of these OKO ones..??? Also, the bike will not start with the clutch pulled in, has to be in neutral, clutch out, to start. Duh!! Don't get it?? I'm gonna see if I can get some help/ideas here..or else sell it and start again. I've just put it on the well known e-m…

Has anyone used the Sammy Miller Bultaco Sherpa T Main Box Exhaust? I seen that it was aluminum and repackable. If you have used it, what kind of performance increase did you see if any? Starting work on the Bult 340 has made me look a little at some of the other bikes waiting in the queue. Done some work on the Cota 330 just to work out what will be needed and would like to paint the frame in the meantime just so it does not deteriorate any further. Does anyone have a Paint code for the Red used on the 330? RAL3020 (Traffic Red?) seems to be used a lot on Monts, but not sure if it's right. I guess I can compare the new mudguards I have stored in the attic against a colour chart. Other thing is the two Ossa Grippers, I've never had a Parts Book for these, does anyone have one? Very willing to pay copying fee's etc. Wayne.....

Having seen a bit of the Manx classic/twinshock while I've been at the Manx Grand Prix I'm interested in what basics constitute a twinshock. Other than having two shocks! What brakes, frames, engines etc are allowed, size (as in fork diameter) or age limits. Anything else that should be considered before I start to make something that's not allowed. Even more interested after seeing some of the pit bike engine specials people have made which look very similar to the first bike I ever rode in a schoolboy competition. The rules for classic and twinshocks seem to be even more liberal than those for classic racing. Which I didn't think was possible!

Kim Nelson sent me a couple of photos he took at the Kansas City, MO national, probably about 1976. He says the KT250 shown was ridden by Steve Darrow, who I think is from the SF Bay Area though I didn't find him listed in the current PITS roster. The noticeable changes are no frame tubes under the engine, Miller muffler, and a KX250 clutch cover. The headpipe looks to be stock length, and not a long one like I built for my bike. The photos were rather faded so I did what I could to enhance them, but I'm far from being a Photoshop expert. Thanks Kim! cheers, Michael
