Twinshock

Got a back wheel for my Sherpa with a brand new 400 x 18 Barum Trials Tyre fitted. Looks knobbly but are they any good?

My KT250 needs to have the under-engine frame rails pounded back away from touching the engine. Again. I'm very tempted to just cut them out and go with an aluminum plate shield instead. What's the usual thickness and material used for this application? 3/16"/4-5mm and 6061-T6? Is there a bit of air space left between the plate and engine or do you run a sheet of conveyor belting or something similar in there to add some additional cushion? cheers, Michael

I'm planning a C15 trials bike and thinking of ditching the alternator and just using a battery. This will also allow me to re-work the LHS cover and reduce width and a bit of weight. - What type of battery do people use ? - Is anything else needed beside standard coil, condenser, and points ? - Has anybody tried this with Boyer-Bransden ? - What amp/hour rating is best? - 6v or 12v. - How many hours trialling do you get before a recharge is needed ?

I rode my 325 beamish in the last round of the Euro cup yesterday. Quite fun but it is very "tired" to coin a phrase. That means, no poke! I now have a used std barrel with slight scoring and a new 0,25mm oversize piston (Thanks Robin!) Just need to visit the boring shop! Now my question: The barrel has a ca. 6mm hole drilled in it about 10mm above the exhaust port windows. Is this normal? Constructive answers only please Greeves! Lee

Who made the best drum brakes and what made them better than the others?

I have a 1974 Montesa Cota 247T and I would love to hear any suggestions this board might have for upgrades and modifications for this Cota. I have installed a new Michelin rear tube type tyre, a new Vee Rubber front tire, both with new tubes and rim strips. I have a new 9 tooth front sprocket and a 56 tooth rear with new chain. The bike runs well using the stock well worn Amal carb, along with a strange looking non stock airbox that works well. I need a new front brake cable, swing arm bushings are shot. I have set of after market weld on footpegs to replace the horrible stock 1 inch wide pegs. Should I locate them down and back?? I have heard about getting the stoc…

I know that because of my vast lack of knowledge I might get beat up on this one.It seems to me that the best and most reliable twin shock to grow old with would be a finely modded TY175 bored to a 200.It has to be one of the cheapest to keep up to snuff and easiest to handle as age creeps in to the bones. The weather is rotten here,I,m waiting on parts and bored so I thought I,d try to stir up a topic.

HI Guys, I seem to have an ignition problem with my early 70's Cota 247. I had a spark....a good one.....and then I didn't! Not totally sure, but suspect it may well be the condenser....so have another ordered to test. but.... I know that there is a suggested mod, where you take the condenser out and place it up higher on the bike, rather than down behind the rotor. Could someone give me a quick run-down on how you do this. Where do you put it? What kind of wire do you use? Where do you lay the wire - how does it get out from behind rotor and through cover? After a long lay off I've come back to trials and realised that at 40 years of age club level expert route is doable just not enjoyable for me (some sections a bit dodgy for my age!!) where I am from the expert class is a big jump up from Clubman so riding a modern bike at Clubman level isn't very challenging, I've bought a very nice Fantic 240 to ride at clubman level so trying to get it as competitive as possible, what's the best rear shocks on the market and where can I get them from?

So, my 349's front drum brake is a bit of an issue - never caused problems in the UK but it's a bit of a liability here when you can have long steep descents that go on and on. Basically, although it's clean and the shoes have lots of decent looking material left on them there's no bite (more of a gentle slowing suggestion), and the lever action feels super spongy despite a new cable. Before I think about getting new shoes, are there any tricks I can try to wake it up again?

In your view, what would you say is the better twin-shock bike to compete on as in :- "a competitive bike", and secondly "for spare parts availability". Gaff.

Never rode all twinshocks , just curious what is the best twinshock bike frame geometry/handling wise.. Yamaha TY Suzuki Beamish Fantic 200 Kawasaki KT Bultaco Montesa Cota Ossa MAR Honda TL may be more. you can suggest . Regards

After attending the Malvern show last week I am pretty sure that the new updated Yamaha Majesty has got to be the best twinshock bike available................but wonder what other people might choose if money no object, and they could afford any twinshock bike? MM

Cost of machine and ease of getting hold of spares, ride quality etc etc.......TLR's need not apply due to the high cost of the bike on the s/h market.....am i right in thinking along the lines of TY twinshock (250?) of Bultaco 250 / 350.....any comments gents?

Am i right that Beta made a t/shock bike as one of their first trials bikes? if so does anyone know anything about them.

I believe that the forks fitted to Bultaco, Montesa and OSSA were made by either Betor or Telesco but which suspension company supplied each bike maker does anyone know?

I am trying to rebuild a pair of betor dampers which I think came from a late Bultaco 340. Does anyone know the amount of oil and viscosity, and if there is any chance of getting new seals?

Hi there, I have recently bought a set of 1 1/4" Betor forks for next to nothing but which need new stanchions and seals . Does anyone know a good UK source of spares? Thanks John

im currently stripping a pair of betor forks on an 1981 ossa, however in one fork there was a u shaped clip at the top of the spring and in the other it was at the bottom. Does any body know the correct position or have an exploded view of these forks. thanks.
