Pre-65 Bikes

Can anyone confirm how to improve my front brakes on my B40. At present these are bantam / cub hubs with standard shoes. Any help please !!!

Hello, i found out my bsa does not have the WD gearbox where can i find the proper gears? what gears are in a road bsa? mine are 18/32 23/27 27/23 26/17 anyone knows who makes alloy barrels for the bsa? best regards bob

Hello, I recently acquired a 1960 Greeves Scottish. I live in Washington State north of Seattle. It is in pretty rough shape but its not locked up and most all of the parts are there. My mission is to clean it up, get it running and ride it. Perhaps get into a few pre 65 trials. As I bought her (minus the Villiers carb and air filter) Tore it down to the frame. Cylinder is on the standard piston. Bore looks ok. Will probably go first oversize. gearbox is another story....lots of cleaning needed. Gonna ditch the points and get an electronic ignition. Probably the Greeves unit. 500 bucks! Any suggestions out there? This should be a fun project. Mike

Hi Guys I am new to Pre-65 world. Just thinking what street bikes are good candidate for converting from street bikes to Pre-65. Good candidate in sense of below: Expense wise ? Time wise ? Person skills required ? My personal experience so far with BSA C15 , it requires lot of patience and bit expense . need to change forks/hubs/wheels/tyres/ignition/sprockets/ and offcourse engine mods etc , there are lot of good products in market but expensive . Is there any Poor's man guide to Pre-65 Cheers JH

A friend of mine is selling a 250 BSA in street trim.How much work and money would it take to turn it into a trials mount? Can the frame and engine be used in standard trim?

Hi, I'm told there is a two day pre-65 trial in the lake district during August or September, but can't find any info. Any info / pointers appreaciated. Ross

Just ordered this and have one more question for any one that has used one. Is it as easy as it sounds? Put the rotor on, mount the stator in the middle of the slots (that sets it at 8 degrees BTDC) and adjust that as needed, wire it up and you're done?? Sounds to easy. Also after installing it do you just take the points,advance unit and the backing plate out then put the bolt back in? Thanks in advance! Thom

My sons just bought a 1934 Royal Enfield, the cost of bits is killing him well the few we can find, as he is a humble apprentice. Its missing the Mag Dyno thing, only one we have seen is £300 and its not working so as its only for shows and wont be having much road use we are thinking of using a total loss battery powered system, has any one done this? Just looking at the results for the Westmoland Trial and it seems a shame that it had so few riders. 18 pre 65 and 22 Twin Shocks( i had enterd but an injury prevented me from riding) i would have thought being in the area it was there would have been quite a large entry given that the north of england must have loads of pre 65 and T/s riders. What happens to the hoards that enter or get turned away from the scottish? why are they not riding/supporting these trials? Are they all turning out for the next trial run by Ilkley & District? Can someone explain the rules on pre65 yokes ie new billet yokes. Is it something about where the pinch bolts are?

Hi All, I have a cub which has been set up for trials, but has been sitting for 30 years unused. I am slowly recommisioning it. It has a pair of metal profile forks, the forks have 5 inches of travel, but when you ride it they are so stiff and heavy it feels like about an inch or two. I have stripped, cleaned and given the fresh oil, but they still feel woody. The only thing left to try is to replace the springs, but I can't find any. Are there any companies out there who make springs to order. I need some 500m x 24mm. Thanks Sam
