My club like many others runs a series of easy trials during the summer with 3 routes: Very easy, easy and hard(er). I guess the "hard" course is about clubman level, so there's nothing too scary. Until this week I've been riding the "easy" course with pretty consistent single-figure final scores but this week I rode the "hard" course and finished on 40 At this level (and for me especially), it's all about having a good time and sinking a few tinnies afterwards, but it's got me thinking: At what point do you decide that you either should be moving up or down a level? For example, the winner of the trial in question finished on 2 - does my 40 mean that I'm out of my dep…

Currently have a 4Rt which I've lost all confidence in brake wise so I'm looking for another brand. I don't want to be fettling all the time but I've no idea what would be a good choice. Budget isn't an issue and I'm excluding GasGas as they are frankly rubbish quality.

We all have our favourite riders and who we believe to be the best rider ever to throw his leg over a trials bike. But who do we think is the coolest rider. It doesn't have to be a current rider it can be one from the past.

Like many of you on this site I have been around the trials scene for over thirty years now. Heard many urban myths, street lore, snake oil, and some basic nonsense about mechanics of trials bikes, their engines, carbs and suspension. In your opinion what are some of these myths and lore that are off the wall? Love to hear your experiences on this topic.

My son's handlebars broke Sunday while riding very difficult sections. We were hammering expert lines at the site of our club trial last month. We were halfway through our "second loop", and I had ridden through the trap first. After passing through the end gate, I glanced back to watch Ian come through. but he waved me back to the start gates. When I got around to where he was, he was holding the whole right side of his Renthals, connected to the motorcycle by only the throttle cable and brake line! Luckily, he was doing some small front wheel hops while waiting for me to ride through. If the bars had broken anywhere else, especially in the sections, the results would h…

ello peeps. This is not strictly about trials but i hope someone can help. I need to know what kind of acid they use for dipping metal petrol tanks etc to remove old paint, rust etc. Plus where can i get enough to make about 50 litres Please only reply if you know for sure as i have had helpful people suggesting lots of stuff (guessing i think) and it just creates confusion. There must be someone on here who has worked for an acid dipping firm. Thanks in advance for any help. Marcus

My beta 250 sometimes sits for a couple of months without use if Im busy at work and I don’t find time to get out . Im not very mechanically minded to be honest but I’ve just had a mechanic clean the carb for me as it’s been sat . And he said I should drain tank and the carb if I know it’s going to sit for any length of time or even if it’s being used most weeks I should at least drain the carb the day before a trial . Your guys advice on what is best and what you do would be most helpful . Tia

Why do some thoughtless people leave their engines running when queuing for sections? I can understand it if the trial has just started and they are warming their engines up while queuing at the first couple of sections, or if their bike has suddenly developed a starting issue. However, some people routinely leave their engines running between sections. Exhaust fumes are carcinogenic (causes cancers) and so you don't want a dirty two stroke exhaust inches from your face, blowing poisonous fumes into your lungs. I have asthma and this always brings on an attack later in the day, meaning breathlessness and no sleep for me that night..

Put this topic in this section as it's a bleeding brakes issue and not specific to a particular make, anyway... Sons bike had squealing brakes, thought, new pads should sort that, it didn't all it got me to notice was the pots were hardly moving, so split the caliper, removed pots, replaced with new seals and pots. Replace fluid, try to bleed and getting no pressure at all in the caliper, can't even get fluid to flow out of the bleed nipple. Am I missing anything ? I have removed the piston from the MS and it looks fine, well to my eyes that is....ideas folks ??

I've just bought a 2000 Rev 3 which has a fairly new back tyre which won't hold any pressure for much more than about half an hour. The air seems to be escaping from where the spokes are attached to the rim. I have spoken to Lampkins about this to see how to cure it and they suggest I strip out the, what looks like, black mastic and re-do it. Has anyone done this and what products have they used. Cheers, Tim.

Hello All, I know that this question is somewhat subjective but I am hoping for some objective feedback. For obvious reasons I have posted here & not in either of the forums of either of the bikes I am looking for feedback on. Basically, I am in for a new bike in the new year & have promised to update my old one by end Jan or Feb. Thats a long time to go, yes, but I have been stuck with this dilema in my head for months now & can not reach a conclusion despite having a go on each bike. I can not make my mind up on either the Scorpa or the Beta (250 2T's), so I am seeking from owners of both points of view or good & bad experiences of their bikes, which I …

I was talking in the Sherco 4T forum and this topic come up. I thought it might make a good discussion topic so I dropped it in here. We started talking about throttle by wire as a possibility for a trials bike.. heres the comments .. Wow, Throttle by wire? What would the carb over EFI brigade make of that then? It's be the same response as people who first disparaged linkage suspension, electronic ignition, water cooling, disc brakes, perimeter frames...at first they'll complain, then they'll embrace it as a must-have feature. The advantage to throttle-by-wire is not the elimination of the cable, as I'm sure you know. It's about the ability to personalize throttl…

Just recently bought myself a new sherco 300, lovely bike and today was my second time out on it but was founding really badly when it came to grip, just couldn't feel anything. Fives all over the place by not getting any grip through the muddy parts, that everyone else was easily coasting through... On my gasser I could feel the grip coming on and was able to throttle accordingly but today, nothing, ziltch, couldn't feel a thing....what's up ???

What is a good way of physically securing a modern trials bike. Enduro bikes can be chained through the frame but I can't see a way of doing that with a trials bike. It looks like you could chain it up but it would be easy to unbolt forks or wheels to remove the chain. Even if you removed both wheels, they are so light that a single man could just carry it off. Short of keeping it in a cage, I can't see how you can secure the bike within a locked garage. Any ideas?
