  2. Dont quite know how i came to be involved in this one but do you have a Pre95 Air Cooled Monoshock ? We are looking for owners who would like to come along to a test day somewhere to be decided in Derbyshire on June 10th. Your bike will be ridden and appraised by none other than Magical Mick Andrews and hopefully Nigel Birkett and the words and pictures will feature in Classic Dirt Bike Magazine. That is assuming we can get enough variety of bikes to test. So if you have a Air Cooled Gas Gas, Beta, Aprillia, Ty Yamaha, Montesa, Honda, Merlin etc etc etc please please pm me and i will try to collate everybodys details and arrange things. I do let myself in for things LO…

I'm thinking of going the aircooled mono route. I'd like - 2 stroke, disc brakes at both ends, electronic ignition, not too exotic so that spares are available. Which is best? I've seen a Montesa 310 and a Fantic 305 for sale but don't know anything about either of them. Any info appreciated? I've also seen a Honda TLM220R - this only has disc on front - do later ones have F & R discs. My thinking is that I can ride the air cooled mono class at the "classic trials" and have a go at "modern trials" on the same bike. Any info/advice greatly accepted.

Hi,looking for some advice, The bike started running erratically and lacking any power eventually dieing with no spark at all. I have changed the coil pack and still only sparks intermittently, on pulling the side cover of the left of the bike I noticed a lack of a gasket and that a lot of crap/dirt had got in.l Could this be the cause or does anyone know better? Got one of the lambretta coil packs of ebay on advice from a forum seems okay. I have a yellow wire which isnt connected to anything at the moment. What size flywheel puller do i need i have already got quite a collection but not small enough for this. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hello, So i'm looking for a spare engine for my TR35 Beta (50cc) The current engine spare parts are of Unobtainium or extreme expensive. The clutch is slightly worn out and i hope it will last some time. But i like the bike! So the idea is to run the bike for the rest of the season. And rebuild the bike this winter to twinshock & install new engine. AM6 / DERBI engine. +Lot’s of spare parts +performance upgrades. +Cost of a tuned engine quite high (70cc, good crankshaft, heavy clutch) -> 300-400€ + Engine size is quite the same, some welding required -Still a 50cc gearbox -> easy to fail -Water cooled (cost of radiator, non c…

Given the value/ prices TLR 250 twinshocks have been achieving recently I was wondering what the rare mono RG model would be worth. The white one with blue and red stripe. Completeley different bike and quite rare. I have been offered one that requires a couple of small jobs sorting. Possibly more of a trail bike maybe. Any ideas, or any users trialing one on here. Thanks.

Hi all As anyone who has owned an early Beta knows (and has scars to prove it) the kickstart is very ordinary. Has anyone drilled and tapped the kickstart shart and fitted a later model kickstart?

  13. I'm planning to convert a Hiro 125 engine from the end of the 70's into a trial engine. Why? Who knows! The engine has six speeds and a reed valve. It's from an Ancillotti 125 moto cross bike. I have the Ancillotti frame too but it's too heavy and wide to converted into a trial frame. So the frame would be some monoshock (or twinshock) trial frame. Any opinions, advices, ideas etc.?

Just before Christmas i got the tip off that Lluis Gallach's Alfer was up for sale. Up to this point it was just one of those factory bikes that had disappeared and i had no idea where it had gone to . Neither had Lluis. So , before it got the chance to disappear once again i went down there to grab some photos and speak to the owner. He turned out to be Felip Gonzalez who built the Alfer and Scorpa bikes with Albert Juvanty. There are some nice old photos in this report on my hobby web. http://www.retrotrials.com/rediscovered---the-factory-alfer-of-lluis-gallach.html

Apologies for another which bike question but as most of the bikes are now nearly at least 20 years old it's a bit difficult to go out and have a go on all of them. I ride as many of the traditional trials championsip as I can on my modern bike, but as I am a long way off 40 I am restricted to a few rounds. I really enjoy the series so am thinking of getting an air cooled mono to have a go at the rest of the series. Common sense says I should go for a pinky, but are they really as competitive as one of the last aircooled monos with front and rear discs etc like a Fantic 245. I used to have a 245 and struggled for grip but I thought something like a 205 would be a g…

Hi Anyone know how to clamp the damper rod without damaging it so I can unscrew (I'm assuming its screwed in??) the damper from the shock base. I've tried a couple of pieces of wood in the vice but can't get enough grip. I want to strip an early TY mono shock (the one without the remote reservoir) so I can give it a good clean etc. Cheers Tim

Well, since the A/C Mono forum has gone a little silent, I thought I'd throw something in for us to chew on. This 85' TY350 has been in the family since we bought it new and I like to ride it at our Vintage events in Non-Comp, just-for-fun class. It has become a test mule for my wild-hair, "hmmm, what if we did that?" brainfart projects and has been modified so many times it starts to whimper when I walk in the shop door. Photos are of a couple of the latest changes: I revalved a Works Performance shock, added a steel-braided line and a adjustable remote reservoir. The intake is a one-piece reedcage/manifold I made several decades ago and uses early CR125 dual-stage r…
