Youth Trials

For discussion on the Youth scene in the UK

  1. Started by jersey stew,

Anybody ever tried converting the beta 80 to a flatslide carb I.E Keihin, OKO etc??? I think the bike would run cleaner on a better carb, we bought my son his new 2017, its never run brilliantly, often fuelling up and idle seems to vary. I know the smaller cc bikes will suffer with pilot jets blocking up because by nature the hole is very small. However Ive had to clean out the carb much more often than on any other bike and also play with the needle height, mixture screw etc to try and retain a decent smooth running. Surely the top lads on these bikes cant have these issues? Do the likes of Hemmingways have modified bikes? or did we just get the Frida…

Is it me or has everyone who bought a 50/80 from 2000 on kept them at the back of the garage once little Johnny has out grown them, or am I looking in the wrong places? I'd happily buy a newish one that there are plenty of kicking about, but can't justify spending 2k plus for it to be used once and him decide he'd rather throw himself round like a ballet dancer playing football, despite his constant nagging for the last month+ to get him one

  3. Started by adsy,

I have just been reading the article about Pat Smage, first time i've read it. Why is he riding a 290 Sherco bike???? Their have been various posts on here regarding this kid, about him possibly riding in the Youth Indoor etc, and about getting a US rider into the WTC. The article also say's he wants to ride some Youth WTC round after his 16th birthday. Surely by riding a 290 he is going to struggle in any Youth WTC rounds where he would have to make the transition to ride a 125!! and similarly in any UK youth champs. Just my thoughts, seen as it seems that you guys in the US are trying hard to find someone good enough to compete at world level, I don't know ho…

  4. Are there any Youth specific beginner dead easy trials coming up anywhere?? I feel that my son is not yet ready for the easy route on our normal club trials, and was looking for something to take him too that he's got half a chance of doing ok in to build his confidence up. Or indeed a 'non' youth specific beginners/ dead easy trial would be good too. I realy don't want to just throw him into something thats too hard and him have a miserable day. He's nearly 10 and rides a beta 80 big wheel if that makes any difference. We are based in the east midlands but dont mind a drive for the right event Thanks

An ACU representative was at the British Sheffield Youth round and made an announcement at the start that the ACU was thinking of changing the ages of the classes. They wanted to change the age classes, and the knock-on from this would be that any youth in the second year of the 'B' Class would be moved up to the 'A' class for 2019. I seem to remember this was to allow a younger youth to move up to 125? I voiced my concerns to the ACU Offical (sorry cannot remember his name) at the time, and told him you will be pushing the riders on to a harder route, this does not seem fair or safe to those riders, who are all expecting to still be riding the 'B' class next y…

Just had entry for Cheadle A&B round on March 5th returned with letter saying the event is cancelled due to lack of entries. With 10 days to go before the advertised entry closure this seems a bit premature surely.

Hi, I have been riding normal club trials for a while now and finally decided to give a proper youth trial a bash! I have a few questions: 1.It says that machine examintion commences at 9:00am and if my start tim is at 11 does that still mean i have to be there at 9????????? 2.It says that during the inspection that tryres will be checked!! what does this mean????? will they not allow a turned tryes???? Thanks Tom

OK so round two of the British youth A/B championships Sunday and i think it's all about who will come second to the JLI Beta UK boy's Challoner & Sheppard. Youth B must have MRS team member Richard Sadler looking to push Sheppard all the way but as for A class, who know's I think that the team Gas Gas UK riders had a Sh*t day at Dod park and will come to Cheadle full of fire & venom and out to make a point. The only twist in the tail is the fact that the Cheadle round has a reputation for being an easy trial and at easy trials mistakes pay dear. Anyway at 10am Sunday the Bull Sh*t will stop, and Five & half hour later we will see who's boss.

Im not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question but here goes, How young can you be to ride a 250cc Trials bike within the ACU rules, If a 16/17 year old enters as a Youth 'A' he / She must ride a 125cc, However the rule book Page 157 at the bottom of the page states : "RIDERS AGE a) Adult riders : A Rider must be at least 16 years of age to participate as an Adult." So in effect a 16 year old as long as he enters as a "Novice" for example can ride a 250cc. Can anyone clear this up. Cheers, Vaughan.

In what was generally regarded as one of the best rounds to date this year, despite some fears that the sections were on the hard side all competitors had a great day on tough but fair sections in Harwood Dale. Jack sheppard scored a predictable win in the A's but his score or rather margin of win shows how well he rode. results Sheppard beta 19 Evans Luter GG 60 Sdler Sherco 72 Short GG 73 Brain GG 83 Luke Walker managed his first success of the year in the B's with a clear cut win on the Sherco. His three laps of 11 10 and then an event winning single dab ride worthy of the win. Showing the skill which he has failed to put together with any consistency this year…

The first two A & B nationals have prompted much discussion re time limits, out of class etc. Ithought it might be helpful for some experienced lads and dads to say here how they would like to see national trials set out. As a clerk of the coirse myself and trials national dad in my 5th season I dont want any organisers to see this as critisam as I know that running atrial is far from a perfect science and I guarantee you will not please all the people all the time.It also depends on hw much help you get. Iwould like to kick off with some of my own thoughts. 1.Ideally with 100 riders or so about 20 sections and 2 laps.Time limit 5.5 hours.I think most would agree t…

Looks like unless somebody steps in that the Bracken Rocks Event will be the only remaining round of the A/B Championship. I have to say that other clubs have managed to relocate the nationals due to the F&M problems and I would have hoped that a replacement could be found. As for the C&D could not Mansfield relocate and run the Trial the day before the A/B???

Evening all. My boy has an Oset 20 lite that he's fast out growing. Add to that the frustration that the batteries didn't quite last the distance in a trial the other day and the very on/off power delivery that an electric bike gives and I'm thinking of moving him on to a little petrol bike. Im completely out of touch with the kids scene so what are my options! He's nearly 7 but he's a big strong tall boy for his age. It seems to be only beta's as far as I can see. Don't really want to spend too much at this stage as I'm not convinced he's big into it yet!!! p.s. There's a Sherco 0.5 for sale locally. Any thoughts on that???
