Well I’ve just read about Gustav Franke and his impressive efforts riding a Zundapp Trials bike. I knew that they entered Enduros but had not considered Trials, even though most of the events were in my youth when I was totally Trials and Scrambling mad. All things considered this may have been a subject that’s already been covered on this website so directions please. I have seen and read the discussion about a Zundapp Trials bike being on eBay and noted some of the comments, does anyone know if these works bikes still live on? Looking on Google doesn’t give much more than I have read in a recent publication. To me Gustav appears to have been an excellent rider often bea…

Just been reading an excellent article on the Mid Atlantic Vintage Trials club web site concerning an AJS project using one of Sammy's fibreglass fuel tanks. The addition of 10% ethanol into petrol in Maryland USA has caused his tank to dissolve, leak and clog the fuel line and carb. Anyone else had this problem? Apparently some fuels here in the UK (Tesco for one) have had 5% ethanol for some time. Several other projects of interest on the web site too.

Has anybody any opinions on using E5/E10 petrol in a TY125? My son has been restoring one and is at the point of (fingers crossed) starting it up, but the question of running an old two stroke bike with E5 or E10 petrol has come up.. None of the companies websites are clear (e.g. Esso, Shell) whether any of their fuel is guaranteed ethanol free (e.g. Synergy Supreme+ 99 which in some areas has ethanol in, some not..), so I wondered what the general opinion is? In theory Oxfordshire (where he lives) should have ethanol free Synergy Supreme+ 99, but I'd rather he not be a guinea pig..

Come on then, who's it to be this year: Will Neil Gaunt get the top stop back? Will Tony Calvert maintain his domination? Can Carlos Casas finally get the win he richly deserves? Who are this year's dark horses? Will one hipflask make it through the weekend or will I need two? Will Big John get lost on Blackwater again? Come on then .... thoughts

Hi All, I'm looking for some information on what is believed to be a Cheetah Trials bike fitted with with a Greeves headed, Villiers Engine. We recently acquired it from a man looking to sell off his late fathers collection. Me and my father are normally Bantam tinkerers by default but couldn't pass up on the opportunity to purchase what we originally believed to be a Greeves Anglian or something similar.I was wondering if anyone has ever owned one, ridden one, seen one in action or just knows a bit more about the brand than me. It was fitted with a battered metal tank with no badging, leading to the initial confusion but a spare fiberglass tank with Cheetah hand painte…

Well after rebuilding my 198 Bultaco engine [all new seals etc] and spending the last week carefully putting it back together and not even rushing the final assy today , the bloody thing still wont run ..... not a back-fire ...nothing ... zipppp ! Plenty of spark , fuel is there and am annoyed / fed-up / going back to 4-stroke & leccy start as soon as I get this bloody lemon going ! If anyone knows the ins/out of a Bultaco engine and can help , even if its "try this carb" I would be so happy to hear from you , am more than happy to bring the bike over to your garage ! Other than that , constructive comments apprecaited ! Going down the pub , Ta Greg

I would love some input guys and gals on this one. When you ride at a "Classic" trials clubs event does anybody have a problem with the machines around you? OK not very clear that one i will try to clarify. For a while now we have been running trials for the following Pre70 British Bikes ( in reality British Twinshock but you gotta call it something), Twinshock ( no modified monoshocks) and Pre95 Air Cooled Monos. Now i've noticed that we have been loosing the Pre70 British Bike contingent only slowly but where we averaged 12 entries a couple of years ago we now average 8 and i am concerned obviously. Now at a recent trial albeit organised by another Club in our area, bu…

I have been considering getting a Spanish twin shock, from the 70s, to ride Twinshock Trials. Which make is likely to be the most reliable? Usable? Trouble free? Spares availability? Anything else? Any comments and advice welcome and appreciated.

I am gathering together the parts to build a Bantam trials to ride the BMCA trials,I have frame/engine and hubs, does anyone here have any pointers on what can be done with the frame, head angles or raising the engine etc. Not sure what forks to go for, I won't be winning any medals out there but I want a rideable bike. Up to now I know the gearbox mod to do, going for the 185 conversion from Rex Caunt, pvl or electrex cdi , 12 tooth g/box, f spkt and 60 r wheel. Anything else worth considering, all info much appreciated.

So the '.. regret to inform you letter ...' has arrived. What do you have to do to get an entry? 1. Move overseas? 2. Ride a pre-unit? 3. Find an obscure make of machine to ride? 4. Have your daughter ride with you even if she is no good and hates it? 5. Find a friend in Scotland from which to post your entry? 6. Put your entry in the envelope with a former stars? All of the above I don't object to the likes of Mick Grant, Eric Boocock, Mick Wilkinson, Peter Gaunt etc and other well known names getting an entry. They have dedicated their lives to the sport and deserve it. It has to attract spectators and that's fine. But it's the young riders (under 40/45) give…
