new to trials and in the small amount of practice I have done, I have never been 100% sure which gear to choose. at the bottom of a steep climb, there is a tendency to take a runup and use momentum to carry you throgh, you can obviously select a low gear and use the torque and traction to get you up ... or something in between, but how do you know? is it better to do the slower/more controlled or rush up as fast as possible, potentially running out of revvs near the top?

There's a lot of confusion about Double blip vs jap zap. The terms seem to have become interchangeable but this video is about what is traditionally called a Jap Zap, popping the clutch and trying to get lift with the rear wheel. My trials bike is broken so I filmed this on the enduro bike.. It all works the same but looks slightly different with body positioning and you won't get near the same lift. General rule of thumb regarding body positioning that I didn't mention in the video, stand in front of the obstacle and jump up to it - then just do the same thing on the bike; jump up with your body and the bike will follow. Hope this helps someone. I'll try to reduce t…

I've had a pretty productive weekend and have gone from pottering up a few small rocks (no larger than 2ft) to learning the clutch control to get me up some stuff around 4ft. My problem is I CANNOT cover the rear brake when doing larger obstacles. At the moment being a bit of a newbie I'm not wearing trials specific boots but should this be that much of an issue? I just end up pushing the pedal down a little bit. It's really frustrating as when I've conquered a nice sized rock I would like to be able to stop and control myself before moving on. Help? Alan.

Hi All, I'm building a training section in the backyard, to get my skills up for the first comp's. Without being to an event yet, I'm building blind, and have a few silly questions. How wide are the boundaries, on an average novice section? What sort of obstacles am I likely to encounter? What techniques should I be working on? Does ayone have any pics of a novice section? Thanks for the help. Cheers Kem

I came across this video and was wondering what this technique is. It looks like half of a double blip. Maybe a zap, but the more I read about the zap VS double blip, the more confused I am as to what the difference is. In this video, Mori-san pops the bike over a log by simultaneously revving the engine and letting go of the clutch. In some attempts there is a small bounce. He does the same thing over a rock. When going over the rock, the faster attempts look like a double blip to me. If you have the patience for videos you don't understand, this channel has some interesting content. Like a demonstration of riding an XT250 Serow up a rock taller than the bike i…

One of the tricks that I like but have no idea how to do it is jumping forward without any speed. How to do it? I dont know how do they call it. But it's often done by riders on their videos. The're standiogn on the rock and then jump to another one. Can you explain it how to do it?

Does anyone have a recommendation for forearm protection? I use standard elbow/ forearm guards and even kid sized guards. They tend to slide down towards my wrist and can be hot in summer. I don't really need the elbow protection but do tend to land on my forearms. This happens when falling in a section and when getting spit off the front on a quick trail.

I'm struggling with anything bigger than something I can just push my front wheel out a bit to keep from bottoming. If I try to wheelie off, I often get too much speed and need more run-out than I'd like to slow down after I hit. I seldom get it right, but when I do, I feel like the front wheel is pretty high and I drop straight down and stop, but I can't get it consistently. Any tips?

Hi all, I know alot of these types of problems have been discussed but not seen any about this particular issue. Been riding for a few years and just getting back into it after a bit of a break. As long as i can remember i have always struggled with pain/cramps in my clutch hand after a couple of laps of sections. Hand obviously just gets tired and then becomes really weak usually meaning i struggle to pull the clutch in! Gets sore around my wrist and just feels like theres no strength in the hand at all. Any ideas what the problem is ? Or a solution? Other than manning up... Cheers

Jacked the topic from another forum. Do u believe in riding with bend knees or not ? This person says bend them : And here someone who only does it with direct function : In my opinion the basics should be with "straight" legs (mostly a little bend)If u start with to much bend there is little room for action and the weight is easily going more to the back, making things more difficult. (That is a problem I have)

I m novice to the sport with only 10hrs or so on my New Gas gas contact 250. Could anyone tell me the difference between the double blip and Zap. I have watched several videos of both and seems the exact same technique. what's the difference?? which one clears higher obstacles? Also, as a beginner, I m struggling with the right finger on the front Brake. should I cover it at all times? even during wheelies? I cover the clutch at all times but left hand does not require wrist motion... any tips on that?? Thanks a lot everyone

EDIT: New progress video (filmed on Thursday) https://youtu.be/5W1FZOQqGi0 EDIT: Most recent progress video https://youtu.be/t4Y9m8tEYdo Hey guys! So the amount of crossover between trials and enduro seems debatable, but I'm a huge fan of both. Unfortunately, I can't afford a trials bike right now. So recently I have been working on a technique I believe to be called 'double blip'. I wasn't sure the difference between that and jap zap. Pretty much, I would like to get better at blipping to wheelie, punch obstacle with front wheel as I drop the clutch. I'm not too concerned with actually getting any rear wheel lift before …
