Hi all, Just a quick query. When I was a lad (back in the late 80's) I remeber having a brilliant trials training video and I am pretty sure it was by an American by the name of Jack Stykes or similar. I'm getting back into trials and was just wondering if anyone had heard of this video or if there are still any copies of it in the world? Thanks for looking Torquil

Hello, I was recently cruising thru the training forum and I notice there is no advice for training with the engine switched off. When I first purchased my new montesa it was the first of February and I was weather locked in the garage with single digit temps and two feet of snow in the yard. So I first focused on static balancing in a stationary position finding the correct vector for the front wheel so I could learn how to balance the motorcycle with my feet on the pegs not going anywhere. At first it was very difficult and I was only able to get 10 to 15 seconds on the pegs before putting my foot down, as the weeks went by with continued practice in the garage my…

Hi all, I have just bought a Rev 3 to do some trials on, but my trials skills are woefull. I think maybe a few hours of training in the basic techniques will go a long way....anyone know of anything in the Norfolk/Suffolk area, if not, I can travel so any recommendations? I did a trials event 3/4 years ago on my Montesa 315R down in Sidcup before I moved to Norfolk....I think i came 3rd from last....I'm guessing the other 2 guys DNF'd But even that trials taster brought my enduro skills to new heights, bare in mind I have low standards that I fail to live up to! I rode enduro's/hnh's for a few years on a sportsman scale, but I want to get into trials in bigger way now …

Hi, I've been riding a road bike for the last couple of years, first a 250cc and currently a 700cc. I have never ridden off-road and would like to have a go at trials. I'm considering selling my road bike and getting a trials bike but would like to have a go first to see if I will enjoy it and actually have any aptitude for it! I am currently looking at an experience day with Trials Day in Leek, Staffordshire but wondered if there is anything closer to home (I live in Hampshire). I've come across Trick in the Sticks in Kent but it's a full £100 more than Trials Day for a full day including bike hire. EDIT: Have just trawled through the last 6 years worth of…

I wonder if anyone can offer some advice. I am going to get into trials locally and have bought I bike but have yet to get a trailer etc. However in the interim to get a little practice and training I fancy a trials experience day. I have done a little reseach and the following two look good. http://www.trials-sc...ing/info_4.html http://www.muddy-wheels.co.uk/ Ideally I would like some 1 2 1 training but not too worried about groups. I just wondered if anyone else had any experience of the two above or would recommend any others. I am based in Berkshire so ideally in the south/midlands would be best. Thanks!!!!

I've decided to build my lad an obstacle course in our back field for him to practise on his Gas Gas Boy. I've managed to pick up 20 odd pallets and a cable drum so far and going to go to work on them this weekend with a hammer and a saw... Would REALLY appreciate some suggestions for other obstacles to use or build into our course. Thanks - Matt.

Does anyone know any decent trials school around? I have done a Steve Saunders training day, Dougie Lampking training day and was also very lucky to get out with Steve Colley in the Isle Of Man The Steve Saunders was a reasonable day out, however I found the Dougie Lampking training day not as good (as this is probably the fact that you have spent a day out riding with Dougie Lampkin, his Dad and James Dabill) Cheers

I started riding 3 1/2 years ago as an adult on a KLX300r on single track trails in Michigan. The seat is too tall for a beginner but I work with what I've got. The good side is it forced me into a parking lot for practice, which I enjoy. For the first couple years I carved a LOT of figure 8s and Uturns off road and on pavement. Lately I'm practicing almost exclusively motor police style slow riding. I'm hoping for some tips on using the dirt bike for trials style balance practice. Owning a trials bike isn't practical right now. I find slow riding on the seat is easier than standing on the pegs. Should balancing from the pegs be easier? On youtube I see the b…

Since a group of us have gone nuts with trials riding the past year, it's also dramatically changed the way we ride our dirt bikes as we apply the trials techniques to the bigger heavier bikes. As a result, we've slowed down a lot, get less injuries. do far less damage to the environment and (hopefully) have become better riders as a result! If anyone is interested, we've been posting these vids and articles. we've started a website about cross training techniques as well here. BEFORE YOU START Protective gear Setting up your suspension BASIC CROSS TRAINING TECHNIQUES Braking Feathering and dropping the clutch Riding across a camber…
