Bultaco

  1. Started by larrynz,

Can anyone out there tell me what type of throttle (twistgrip) would have come on the first M10's that came out early 1965 (frame/mtr #117). When I bought the bike it had a plastic Amal look a like. As far as I can see in old period photos they appear to be an Amal with metal/chromed body (possibly #364-?) but there is no way to tell if they were original. Also does anyone have an original handle bar with the welded perches that could give me some of the measurements-height, width perch angle-? Thanks and Happy New Year

Hello all, I have been riding a 1966 250cc Bultaco Matador in the USA AHRMA trials Classic Class for some time. My Bike handles OK on the milder events but when the going gets tough its a real pig. Any thought on how I can get the bike to behave in the rough? Thanks, Dave

Looking for help on a replacement flywheel for a 1966 MK2 Matador 250, the bike came to me in parts... crates of them, picked from the original 'restorer'. The flywheel in the pile is a FEMSA VAR 41-9 that is cracked at the rivets & has at least 3/16" rotational play. Anyone know what FEMSA part number flywheel should be on this bike? Suspect the VAR 41-9 may be another model, as I have a mod 26 in the pile of parts!

Hi all The float needle assembly on my 1966 Sherpa T Model 10 IRZ (24mm)carb recently became sticky.I think I have managed to resolve this at least for the time being but a couple of questions a) how do you remove the float needle assembly - not certain whether it's a push or threaded fit no doubt IRZ carb spares are as rare as hen's teeth but does any one know where I might source parts if required; in particular a float needle assembly. Many thanks Roger

  7. Hi folks, I've started to restore our old Bultaco (again!). I've also started a little blog to document how it's all progressing. If anyone's interested follow the link and take a look, although I'm still only at the strip down stage. Today I've scanned in the parts list for this bike and put up a link on the blog where you can download it. It might be useful to some others. The link is entry number 12. http://ralphsbultaco.blogspot.co.uk I'd like to here from any other owners who've restored one. Thanks, Ralph.

Looking for some help. 1971 Bultaco Matador SD 250 wouldn't start. I got 130 psi compression with new crank seals, piston rings and cylinder honed. Got fuel and spark as well. Been messing with timing trying to get it to start but it shows no signs of life. Any ideas are much appreciated.

Ok, guys ive now installed a new ign side crank seal, im sure the clutch side seal should be ok as 1, the bike dosen't smoke excess, 2, the bike starts 1st or 2nd kick! BUT ive still got a problem with the lower end of the rev range! the bike idles for a very short while then dies! but the revs dont pick up well as in you have to throttle it lts to keep the revs up and stop it from dying! and have to give it loads of revs to pull away! the mid and top ends good and it will really get a move on when needed! ive cleaned out the carb , jets etc! the vent pipe on the tank clear, new s/plugs gapped and fitted! fresh petrol added! the timings not been checked as …

I have a 1974 Bultaco Model 125. But I see that they made three models during that year, the 92, 125 and 133. I can't see any glaring difference, does anyone know what the differences were?

I just got this bike and didn't notice the chatter the first week. Now I notice it alot. The kick-starter seems to chatter all the time. When I press lightly on the top it will stop. I tried to move it forward a bit, but it did not help. I couldn't find anything in the forums or on line? Any suggestions to why? Do I just have to put up with it while I ride? Thanks for any help.

  16. Hi My M159 is all restored with new seals, bearings etc, etc. The only moving parts not renewed are the piston/rings/bores (loads of compression and fine in my opinion) and the swing arm bushes (not a problem). Apart from that its all new. I've fitted electrex ignition which is timed correctly for this model I believe (2.9mm BTDC) checked on a strobe and it starts on choke very easily. Everything is very smooth and lovely, BUT, in order for it to tick over correctly once warmed up it has to have the mixture screw wound all the way in! If I try backing it out at all (1.5 turns out is standard) it coughs and backfires even at 1/8th turn out from fully seated it starts to…

Just aquired a fairly nice 1975/76 350 sherpa t (159)that has been sitting for at least 10 years. Tonight I disassembled the stock bing carb and it is worn out. The VM28 Mikuni is cheap and is an excellent replacement from what information I have been able to find. Hard to go wrong with a mikuni. Like to know if anyone has the jetting specs for the VM28 for my bike and any other pros and cons concerning this swap. Thanks in advance, cheers,Jim

  18. Hi all just had the ebay itchy fingers and brought a 1976 sherpa 125 rolling chassis, I'm wondering if the frame is compatible with the bigger 250/350 engine's or is built especially for a 125 motor. I know the wheels are 1inch smaller than the 350 etc but that's about all the information I can find on frame dimensions. I have two potential motors to fit in the roller, a yamaha 125 aircooled 4t the type that comes in the tyf or a pit bike engine. I'd like to fit the yamaha engine but there will be a fair bit of fabrication as it's probably a little taller than a 125 air cooled 2t, but if I come across an original bultaco engine of a bigger cc I might go down that road che…

  19. Started by bagonails,

Has anyone seen this before... When I start my newly acquired 198 Sherpa 250 (pig to start) the throttle sticks on three quarter throttle until the engine warms up, then it's fine - ticks over nicely. I decided to investigate and noticed the carb slide on the intake side has a circle of sticky black goo on it (presumably becomes less sticky when warm). I then went further and removed the head and barrel and the same sticky black goo is coating the intake side of the piston. The bike has a tank of fresh fuel mixed at 40:1, so my question is 'what is causing this build-up of oily goo?' Bike has good bore and piston and has been converted to electronic ignition. Any advic…

I am in the process of restoring my 77 350 Sherpa I am at the rolling chassis stage and now checking the motor over, before I started the project I rode the bike and all vital signs were good ie: gearbox selecting as normal clutch responding as normal engine crisp and responsive, I have taken ths cylinder head off and decoked the head and piston crown. I noticed there is no head gasket is this normal on my model ? also stamped on the cylinder close to the overlap joint is 159 R my engine No, is JM-19100771 the bore is unmarked with a std. Mahle piston any help gratefully received Stanley
