Last fall I cracked the primary cover on my M98 Sherpina when I hit a rock at a trial. Luckily I was able to repair the cover, but ever since I’ve been a bit nervous about going through rocky sections. The standard skidplate, or bash plate, on the M98 is just some a perforated sheet between the frame rails. It’s made contact with a few objects over the years, but it offers zero protection for the primary and flywheel covers. I’ve seen a few homemade skidplates, so I decided to try and make my own. The material I selected was a 17” x 14” x 5/16” (432mm x 356mm x 8mm) cutting board purchased from Target for $15. Originally I wanted to use 1/4” (6mm) UHMW and may still…

Hi, this is my first post here. I have most of an M116 350 Alpina which I got for $100 20 years ago and I have been slowly gathering up some of the missing parts. The main things I still need are a piston and con rod kit. While pistons are available new, they are quite expensive. Occasionally on ebay I see listings for NOS pistons from other models such as 360 Astro, Frontera, etc. Are any of these suitable? I believe I am currently at standard bore but as the cylinder is quite rusty it will likely need a rebore in any case. Alternatively are there any more common Japanese model pistons which can work? Probably I should just save up and get the proper thing, but any sugg…

Just about to order electrexworld ignition for the Sherpa ( 191 ). I don't need DC lighting system but it says the basic one is available in 6v or 12v. I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure which it is, I can't see anything on it to suggest either.I has the Femsa 4 magnet flywheel which is about 98mm inside diameter.Presumably early ones were 6v, did they change to 12v....if so when?

  6. Just rebuilt a pair of wheels for the 191.Polished the hubs, got Mike Danby to re-line them.Inmotion supplied Morad rims but I had Central Wheel Components supply spokes.I have Michelin H/duty tubes and IRC tyres + security bolts ( all from in motion) but the rims aren't drilled for the security bolts.Has anyone drilled these? Would put it opposite the valve but anything else I should or shouldn't do?

  7. Hello The bike, the first target is to start the engine with a clean carburetor / exhaust and of course wheels (Tires/ spokes). I will manage to have a Vermont registration : its's means lights, horn with probably a new ignition with 12 volts supply. A long way to go 😪

  8. Desperate to get the Sherpa finished in time for the Bultaco Club UK do at the end of July. I still need an inlet manifold ( never had one as bike came in bits ) part Number 158.10-029 and the original swingarm isn't straight so i could do with that as well ( not 100% sure but think it's 159.03-002 ) if you know of anyone who has spares lying about please ask around. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have inherited a Bultaco engine with the number RM-19802534-A. It is a 250 engine but I have no idea if the 'RM' at the beginning of the serial number has any significance. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm sure this has been asked loads of times, but, what petrol/ 2t oil ratio should I use on my Sherpa 250 (1979)? People are telling me I dont need to use anywhere near as much as years ago because 2t oil is so much better these days. Does 40/1 sound sensible? Any guidance appreciated, thanks.

  11. Proud owner of newly acquired 71 Bultaco Sherpa T 250 (seller said it was a '71 but I have not fully verified yet) First question! It's about the petcock, which I think the seller gave me incorrect info about...After some testing I believe the pic below is the "off" position (lever at 3 oclock, aka, pointing at right hand side). Is that correct? And "on" would be straight down (6 oclock) and reserve pointing at left hand side (9 oclock) ?

  14. I’ve just bought a Bultaco Sherpa Model 49 to renovate. On searching for information on this model , which seems sparse people talk about different models of the 49. Were there several models of the 49, what were the differences.

On my 199 Sherpa I have a Regina Extra chain. Is it a 520? I am looking to make it longer because I changed the counter shaft sprocket. Where can I get half links with cotter pins for this chain?

  18. A couple of people have asked about the fold out lever I have fitted to my Sherpa 198A that was for sale (now sold!) and I promised to post some photos and quick description of how I made it. Its not an original or expensive remanufactured one, but a right hand pivot lever with 13mm diameter splines (the Bultaco shaft size) that I found on eBay for £13 - allegedly Honda derivative but I can't confirm as it seems a pretty cheap copy. Basically I removed the lever from the splined boss (circlip) and simply filed away the metal to form a curved profile matching the opposite side allowing the lever to pivot both ways. Not being manufactured quite symmetrical t…

Had a loud rattle from the back of the bike (Alpina 213), so pulled off the rear silence and give it a shake - something heavy adrift inside. I thought I’ve nothing to lose so took the disc cutter to it: Having fished it out it appears to be the same size as the lower tailpipe, but where does it belong?

  20. Started by rocker1,

Good morning. I have a Bultaco Alpina model 213 and would like to fit electronic ignition. Having had a bad experience with Electrex I am looking for an alternative. I emailed Vape and they quoted two prices and when I queried it they stopped answering my emails. I understand that PVL (?) do an ignition but the only place I can find that sells is EBay. has anyone experience with this, recommend a supplier, have any ideas on prices for a unit with lighting coils? Thank you.
