Trials Gear

Questions or comments on Clothing, Boots or Helmets? This is the place!

  1. Which boots are mostly recommended? Alpinestar Tech T or Gaerne Balance Oiled? They say ease of movement is more important than safety and hard shell which makes complete sense in Trials I think. Being a newbie, I am not sure. Thanks for your help. Another thing, is a helmet secondary for choice or weight being a big factor, do you recommend a special helmet's name?

Looking at new boots... Ive had 2 pairs of Formas and dont rate them... get what you pay for I guess. Got some Gaernes which were great but now pretty nakerd. Looking at Stylemartins or Sidis maybe.... any feed back? Could save a few quid with these or should I stick with with the Gaernes?? Cheers.

Hey folks! Has anyone ever heard of Stupidgreg.com..... ? I just bought another trials bike after a few years away from the sport and was looking for good prices on gear and apparel and found this site. Like I stated, it seems to good to be true..... They do not accept Pay Pal like most places in the USA and I can't seem to find anything on the net about them as a company. Anyone, unfortunately, get burned by them? Thanks

  4. I decided I'd better carry a spare kill switch magnet cap in case the worst happens at an inopportune time. $25 for a new one, or fire up the CAD, borrow a mate's 3D printer and bingo. If anyone cares to print more it is available on Thingiverse: Magnetic Stop / Kill switch top Leonelli Apico Jitsie I tweaked the design a bit so a bootlace fits through the hole, avoiding the tiddly bit of string. Also included a bead to tighten the lanyard on your wrist. Common 10 x 5mm disc magnet (approx $1) slips in and just melt the lip to hold it. I found melting the surfaces of the lanyard and squashing them together made a solid & neat join.

https://www.justgloves.co.uk/Work-Gloves/Assembly-Line-Gloves/Skytec-Basalt-R-Gloves Although not intended for trialling these gloves are very comfortable and give a good grip on the bars. Hardwearing also. This is not a "for sale" post. I have no connection with the link at all. I just happened to come across the gloves at a company that supplies and maintains equipment at roadworks / quarries etc.

  7. Hi, im getting back into Trials after a long time away from the sport. My boots have been stored away in the box for all these years and are in really good condition, but the plastic buckle straps are going brittle. Does anyone know where i can get some from, as i really don't want to spend hundreds on new boots, especially considering i've got to buy everything else new already! Hope fully thanks in advance.

"Proper" trials clothing (shirt and trousers) is expensive but should be made for the job. So why does mud and chain grease not wash off easily? Does anyone have any cunning methods for keeping their riding gear looking good?

Hi guys I'm new to trials, and wondering about safety gear.. Boots are number 1 priority for me. Used to ride MX bike and broke my ankle in couple places. After long time thinking decided to go for trial bike- looks safer.. I checked so many reviews for trial boots, but most of them state how flexible and comfortable they are.. Almost bought SIDI trial boots, but when I checked them in store, ankle area didn't look very supportive, looked so so flexible compare to mx boots. Maybe you can give me an advice from practice what boots give a bit more support for ankle? Or are they pretty much the same and every trial boot is so flexible? Also, what disadvantage …

I had some zeros a few years back but wondered what’s the difference with them and the sidi courier? I’m looking for a new pair of boots that come further up my legs.

im sick of splashing petrol around from a cheap can like a chump, and was wondering if there is a decent product out there that suits trials bikes. I know the enduro/mx crowd are pretty well covered in this respect So, im wondering what everyone else uses, perhaps there's a particularly good fuel can out there?

Hi all I'm new to all this. I have a tight budget after rebuilding my Yamaha Ty mono. I am after a new pair of boots. I don't want to waste my money on something that will fall to bits after a few Trials. My Question is are the Hebo Eko Evo range of trial boots any good.

My latest experiment. Read it on-line (so you know it’s true). Spray helmet with vodka after a ride. So far it seems to work. Doesn’t degrade the foam and is readily available. No information yet if expensive vodka works better or if flavored makes for a better smelling helmet. Lemon might be nice.
