Hello All - New to the forum. Getting back into trials after a long break. Just about to start a full rebuild of a 1976 Montesa Cota 246 with my 11 year daughter in the hope of dragging her off social media for at least an hour a night! Ideally I would like to road register the bike in the UK. The frame and engine numbers match. I am familiar with how to obtain a v5. Its the Montesa bit that concerns me. I am guessing obtaining paperwork for a 1970s bike will be a challenge. Any guidance would be appreciated. Best wishes Moray

Having just received back my V5 for road registering my TXT 280 (thanks to all those who gave advice) I am now wondering what is an appropriate size of registration plate to get. The same size as my road bike would look daft, and yet some of the ones I saw at a trial today are no bigger than the width of the mud guard. I understand there is a legal requirement but wondered if there was an 'accepted' size for a trials bike?

Hi all. Just joined the group today, so i am new to the forum. This is my first post, and hopefully I can get an answer to my query. I have reached the stage of giving up my Kawasaki ZXR in favour of something smaller and lighter, and as i owned a Montesa Cota 247, and ran it on the road (about forty years ago ! ) i thought that this would be the way to go. I am in the process of buying a Bultaco sherpa at the moment, with the intention of getting it registered for the road, and entering a couple of road runs . The bike doesn't have a V5 . The owner says that he has had an HPI check done, which didn't show up anything. I have been reading all the posts about getting an…

Hi all, New to the sport and the site but hoping to have my own bike by mid Jan, so been doing my homework on vans and now looking at insurance for the bike! I'm having issues trying to get quotes to cover the bike as I don't have a bike licence and wasn't planning on getting one either. Can anyone on here that doesn't have a bike licence and has a non registered bike let me know what you do for insurance? I'm looking for cover while stored at home and during travel to trials sites/events. P.S. Will pop on the new member section when I have the bike to say hi! Cheers Alex

Got a 71 M80 Bultaco Sherpa project on the go. If I want to register it with an age related page I'm thinking I'm best to do it before restoration so that it is clearly original. As it's over 40 years old it should be tax and MOT exempt but can you register the bike without these or do you still need them for first registration? Cheers.

After reading about another spate of Trials bike thefts, how many people actually insure their bikes? Not talking about roadgoing insurance, but insurance against theft from home/van/trial I forgot to re-insure my 4RT for a week, earlier in April this year (Carole Nash forgot to send the reminder) and in hindsight I could have kicked myself I use Carole Nash for a specific offroad bike policy to cover against theft/fire from home, which includes theft cover whilst travelling to and from a Trial or practise ground whilst in the Van or on a trailer Costs me £128 per year for £3k's worth of cover - cheap 'piece of mind' in my book, less than a pair of Raptor footpegs S…

Hi Chaps. I wonder if anyone can shed any light on my SORN situation? I've just bought a bike that was SORN'd by the previous owner. When we filled out the V5 for change of ownership I'm pretty certain that he ticked the 'currently SORN'd' box. My question is, do I need to do anything to keep it SORN'd (I'm not going to use it on the road)? And, how do I know that the DVLA will not fine me or do something else horrible to me if I've not filled out a SORN form as the new owner if that was what I'm supposed to do?? The DVLA website isn't that helpful in clarifying my situation, so hopefully collective knowledge/experience will be able to help me out?! Cheers, Ray

There is a very strange issue with this forum (but only this forum) where, if a topic title contains the word "register", "registering", or "registered" then it takes you to the site sign-up page. I am looking into this, but it's a really wierd one. Johnnyboxer - I've temporarily hidded your NOVA topic till I get to the bottom of this. Tried to PM you, but Inbox full.
