I have a slightly technical question regarding the rules for MOTs. My bike was first registered as new in May'07, and is currently taxed I think until June'10, after which I will have to go through the hassle of getting it MOT'd in order to tax it. Does anyone know if I SORN it now, and then re-tax it before it comes up to it's 3rd birthday, then the tax disc will run for another year before I have to get it MOT'd? (e.g if I re-tax in April'10, will run to April'11 when it will be nearly 4 years old?) Reason is I only plan to keep it about a year and I'm looking for the least hassle way to extend the taxed status a bit longer. Or. legally should a vehicle over 3 years old…

I have just purchased a 2012 Jotagas which I'm trying to get road registered. I believe I will need to have an MOT, tax and insurance to do this. The original importer has been brilliant in supplying their documentation. I also have a 1965 Triumph Tiger Cub Trials which I got classic bike insurance for (£50 fully comp). However I don't think they insure modern bikes. Can anyone recommend an insurance company that would insure either the Jotagas separately or preferably both Trials bikes on a multi bike policy I am more interested in theft as road use will be very occasional at best! Any advice would be appreciated. Bruce.

Hi everyone, I'm looking at getting my new evo insured for theft. It's road registered as the dealer offered to sort all that out for me and i figured it may be best in the long run. At the moment I only want insurance for theft etc. My plan was to SORN it as soon as the paperwork comes through. I spoke to Carol Nash today who said I need an MOT to insure it as it's road registered. Not sure if this is the case however if i sorn it? Can anyone confirm as i don't want to pay out for an MOT if not necessary! Thanks Hugh

Just to let people know that dvla have changed the v55/5 forms in September they still send out the old ones though! I have had mine rejected just because it's the old form which I only received from them 4 weeks ago. if you print one off online and fill it in identical to the old one it will be fine (dvla told me) so make sure you don't fill out any old ones old ones have the carbon part on the back!

part way through road registering my gas gas 280 txt progress: MOT Dating letter Insured on VIN number V55/5 filled in and sent off Came back saying i needed to apply for a NOVA to sort VAT out. did this online ands its telling me i now owe £130 import tax on it. The dating letter tells me it was imported by the offical gas gas importer, surely this would have been done legit and all import duties would be payed at the time???? Have rang VTU (vehicle transportation unit) today but just says lines busy. Bit annoyed that i have forked out all this money to get it road legal including having insurance running to be told that my applications ben declined because of …

  15. Hi All, Just after some advise on the current situation and if anyone had been in the same situation as myself. I had a Bete Evo 300cc 2015 Trials bike stolen in September 2016, this was insured through a well known high street insurer. When insured the trials bike I explained that it was for off road use and had no v5 or any road lights. Plus also no key for ignition. The trials bike was used for off road practice and competition. When the trials bike got stolen I went through the general routine ie informing police, issued with crime number and also informing the Insurance company. A few weeks the later the claim was successful and paid the near full am…

Hi guys, quick query. as the title says really. Have any of you guys insured your Oset, and if so, who with? (UK only). The bikes are currently covered on my contents policy but with the insurance company not actually knowing what an Oset is or how to categorise it, they're not filling me with confidence should i need to claim. Thanks in advance.

I need a dating certificate in order to register my OSSA MAR. I'm aware of the DVLA procedure which I have been through before - at some point I will need to produce a document to verify the production date. Given that OSSA don't exist I'm at a loss where to go for the certificate. Has anyone on the forum had any useful recent experience ? Thanks.

  18. Started by taff_d,

struggling to get the new bike insured, can anyone with the new Ossa tell me who they are insured with or anyone recommend me a company. I have tried all the usual suspect but no one lists the TR280i will probably need a specialist broker.

  19. Started by jsp,

Ive rung Carole Nash today who i cover my bikes with (an off road policy) but due to the price of the ossa they wont insure it. has any body managed to get theres done and through who jsp

If your close to warrington cheshire Princess St Garage easily found on google or yell. Just the one guy does the bike mot's and understands what we use them for. No drama MOT very stress free. Of course bike was mechanically perfect but no dramas with no lights etc. Just a battery powered mega horn and a large number plate. Dont forget the little reflector needed on the number plate, a i would recommend wizzing off the "not for road use" if its on your tyres. Simple
