Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

Hi New to the forum. Just bought a 1974 montesa cota 247. I have no docs, but have tracked down a previous owner who has supplied me with a copy of the original log book. Clearly states number and engine and fame numbers. DVLA say they have no records for the number and are reluctant to let me have it. I gave sent them the copy of the reg document, but they want a club to say that the numbers match. As far as I can find there is no uk Montesa owners club. Any ideas what I should do. Thanks

Hi I have a tiger cub 1959 trials its registered in my name v5 ,I've been told I don't need a mot and its tax exempt its fully working and in good condition ,no lights, reflectors etc but I have fitted a horn how do I go about using it on a daytime licence I have also put a number plate on the rear mudguard

Just picked up a 1976 Cota 250. It has the lighting kit and V5 and is currently on SORN. Its all original and needs a going over and general tidy up. Is there a recommended insurance company for these bikes please ? I am 58 years young and would prefer this on a separate policy to my other bikes. Thanks in advance.

Browsing this weeks MCN, mainly because somebody told me there was an article on the new Greeves and I came across THIS. Not good news at all if you ride a bike on the road (road legal trials as well). I lived in Germany for a couple of years and know only too well the grief the Germans have with TUV testing and type approval etc. We really don't want this coming to the UK............do we? GJ

Quick one and maybe a silly question ! Can the 125's be road registered, they don't seem to be any second hand road reg 125 bikes at all for sale. I know these are mainly for youth riders so probably no need to register but im just wondering if you can register them when bought new ? Cheers

Could somebody please give me the info required for getting a bike road registered. If the bike has matching engine and frame numbers and every part of the bike is as it was made. No evidence of a reg number or old tax disc is available. (this would be a UK reg) cheers for any info.

Hello all, Can you all please share how big your number plate is? How is it attached (stuck to mudguard, on a bracket)? Have you had any issues if it's a non legal size? I know how big they should be but its just not that practical. Ideally I just want a sticky one to stick to the rear mudguard but before I made a purchase I thought I would see what you are all using to get an idea. Thanks fellow riders. Chris.

Hi, Does anybody have any experience of insuring a trials bike for a road trial for just one day? I have the chance to ride my fathers Enfield in a local road trial (in preparation for the Scottish Pre 65 - where there is the option to purchase road top up insurance with your entry fee). The bike is road reg'd and already insured for the road under my dads policy but obviously just for him. I have a full bike license so assume it should be quite possible, but just wondering if anybody has any experience of doing this and if so through which companies? Hello all. Just wanted to share a bit of info with regards insurance. I have been looking to insure my Sherco 290 (road registered) once I completed my bike licence. I called all the various 'speacialist' companies whos names crop up around these parts when you search for insurance guidance. All in all it was a pretty dissapointing experience up until this week. The company I was most dissapointed with was Carol Nash. In May of this year any vehicle over the age of 40 will no longer require tax or MOT. So how will this change the process of registration for older machines? At the moment for a 1977 Bultaco Sherpa for instance, your require MOT to start the process, will this change?
