Montesa

  1. Started by 2stroke4stroke,

I seem to recall seeing a diagram, presumably from an owners manual, showing the construction of the silencer with regard to changing the end cap from the homologation item to the one normally used, but can't find it on the web. Does anyone have a pic of this to show how the end cap comes off? Having drilled out the rivets, mine seems to be trying to bring the perforated tube with it, ie it's not keen to come off and I don't want to damage anything.

The price of a 2016 fuel pump unit is massive.... quoted £453! surely it’s a common item taken from a road bike. Would anyone happen to know or have the means to find out if it’s used on another motorcycle?

  3. Second year at Hawkstone and it was mint. But again this year the team 4RT's are deffinatly running more than just 'super unleaded' in the tank ! Does anyone know what it actually is ? . Smells like the stuff you would use on model petrol engines or something ... or is it a mix of that and normal fuel ??. If it is some sort of high octane fuel then would this shorten the life of the engine components ?, has anyone used it and what is the differance in the power charactristics ? It's a real 'petrol head' subject this one (pardon the pun, couldnt resist) Hard luck to Doug, I thought he put in a good ride on the sections that I was lucky enough to see him on... he did…

A few weeks ago i bought a PTB, everything works fine. With the software it is very easy to change settings, but what i miss is a tool for a comparison between two curves so you can understand the changes. After some thinking and debugging i have made a tool who can compare two setting-map's and display it in a diagram. Does any one else has thoughts about it ?

Do any of you have experience with the V-MAR rear shock linkage for the 4RT? The linkage lifts the rear of the bike and they claim: "This gives you improved 'hop' without sacrificing the excellent rear end traction." If you've tried the linkage, did it work as claimed? Please share your thoughts/experiences with this mod. Thanks

Hi could anyone tell me if the carb on the 349 is the same as the 348! Its just that I have bought a 348 without a carb and there is one on ebay for a 349. Thanks

  9. My 4rt -05 is a first kick starter 90% of the time, other times i have to kick it twice.. never any more. Recently the bike have stalled in sections, figured that it was the low (1100rpm) idle or my inabillity to ride the bike that made it stall.. Set the idle to approx 1300rpm and problem solved... This weekend i finished a section, let the bike sit for 10min, and when we were moving to the next section it started first kick as usual, but halfway i heard a backfire, had a look over my sholder to see whos bike it was but couldent figure out where it had come from, approached a small hill and suddendly the bike lost power and wouldent rev, stopped and the id…

Hi, I bought a Bultaco 350t Sherpa last year and after many hours of knuckle grazing managed to rebuild and get it road registered. I'm now taking my first tentative steps in trials riding. I've been offered a Montesa/Honda 348 as a project at a reasonable price that will need some work. I'm not sure of the age or anything. Are parts readily available and are there any pitfalls I should be aware of? I learnt a lot with the Bultaco and this forum was huge help so any advice gratefully accepted. Neil

Hello all, i have just purchased a 08 Repsol 4RT. It’s a great bike apart from the wheels need powder coating in the Repsol orange. Has anyone had this done and can recommend someone to do this for me? Any ideas on the colour code? cheers!

  12. Hi , I want a spare rear wheel for my Mont 4RT, it’s a Repsol. Would those in the know recommend buying a built wheel or buy the parts and assemble? I ask as a quick search of built units seem to yield mainly Jitsie and if I’m spending a chunk then I want the right product. I know the originals are DID, is there any point looking at OEM? It would be good to know what others have done and recommend. Thanks, Reg

Not too familiar with any of the 4t montesa's and im just getting back into trials. I had an 03 315 new and loved it and also appreciated the build and reliability of the honda side of it especially compared to my REV 3 I had after. I have an opportunity of buying a VERY tidy 2005 4rt and was wondering if anyone had info on what they are like especially as this is one of the first ones. Did they have any quirks which have since been ironed out? I know its now an old bike but this particular bike is at my price range but like new so makes it quite desirable. Spending the same money on a much newer bike would only give me something very "ridden". I dont thi…

Thank goodness for this forum, the twits I ride with would rather cut off bits off their anatomy than admitt there could ever be a problem with THEIR bike!! For instance I have ridden the 06 version with the alleged improved clutch (something which from memory was improved as a matter of course every year on the 315 along with the carburation too lets not forget!!!) and cannot feel any discernible difference (it still surges/pulses just like everyone I have ridden), although the plastics/decals do look ever so nice and really deserve a price increase (I am sure you will all agree) compared to the 05. I am now on my third Montesa (2x4RT & 1x315R), and all of them have…

After reading a couple of posts on here I was wondering how long it will be until someone is in the unfortunate position where they have to adapt a carb to fit a 4RT. All you blokes that are fortunate to change your bikes every year or two will not need to worry, it's the ones that are buying a 4RT when they are in the

The Montesa '98 315R Manual doesn't appear to publish the 'standard position' or 'factory' settings for the Paioli front fork. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to start for (1) Left fork tube Preload setting and the (2) Right fork tube Rebound Damping setting. Currently using the recommended 5W Fork Oil. The rear shock is published at 6 turns out from full hard down. Thanks in advance for your help. Always appreciated

What I'd really like to know is why are there no top British riders on the Montesa 4rt? You have to go down to 5th in the expert B class to find one at the British solo trials champs at Kinlochleven, Bou seems to like his.

Hopefully a few members might be able to help me !? I've recently bought a 2004 315r and am struggling to locate a new silencer for it. I'm unsure if there are 3 parts or just 2 to the full system. The front pipe is in good unmarked condition but the silencer has been broken off at some point and is held on with an aluminium wrap and a couple of jubilee clips. It looks to me that the silencer is/has been riveted on to the part that emerges from the rear of the frame originally. Would i be right in assuming that this is correct and is for removing possibly for re packing ?? Any ideas where i might get a second hand or new part? Been watching on flea bay for a few weeks …

On the odd time that we have wet conditions here I find the front brake on the 4RT unaffected or even a bit better when wet, whereas the rear is fairly ordinary when wet but good when dry. I think I have Top Fun pads in the rear, what make do you real wet weather guys use?

So there is a used 2005 4RT for sale - looks in pretty decent shape - not sure of the hours though. I have a GG 2000 TXT280 and like it a lot, but its really worn out. I am new to trials bike (been riding enduro) but absolutely love it for the highly technical trails we have out here. For a newbie I understand that a remapping would be in order. And perhaps the clutch might need to be changed out. But were the 2005s and OK year for the 4RT? Anything I should watch for? And to make matters worse - there is a 2008 Beta Rev 4T for about the same price. *sigh* thanks Don
