Montesa

Hi, I have a 2009 montesa repsol and it is "tapping". I have adjusted the valve clearances and checked the cam chain adjuster (which is fine). Even with the tappets set according to the manual I still have much too much tapping from the top of the engine... Any ideas what i'm missing? Cheers Jamie

My new bought used Montesa starts fan after few minutes of use even in cold weather, and fun works almost all the time. Could it be wrong thermo switch or something more serious? Previous owner has been riding her for two years but did not think of it as a problem.

Continuing on the 349 ‘81 thread (white wonder I’ve been advised) here’s one for the aficionado’s out there who know more about these the than I do (which to be honest isn’t difficult😜). the frame is stripped & now at the powdercoaters waiting for a little tlc. Although she’s been clearly neglected the latter part of her life, there seems no lasting damage on the frame nor the swinging arm. I did notice there’s no evidence that she’s ever been painted, the frame & swinging arm are simply pure surface rust.......but.......there’s a hint of either silver paint & definitely a hint of chrome, albeit just a morsel here & there. so, ‘those who know more …

Hi Munch. I hope you dont mind me asking you this openly on TC,but as your one of the guys who actually know what they are talking about when it comes to the 4RT i thought i would ask you the following, plus i thought others could benifit from your advise and experience? Im thinking of doing and engine overhall in a couple of months and am considering and oversize engine kit. As i believe you have riden several i would like to ask your recommendations? 260,272,280,290,300 are some options available, but i have heard the standard cylinder head combustion deasign cant work efficiently with anything over 272,is this correct?? Thanks in advance Munch. Benz

Hi! I recently got a Mont MH 349 - 1985, stunning condition, however I have had a go on it and found that its possibly running way too rich, it's fluffy and with a bit of white smoke. It has the Standard Amal Carb on it, however I do have a Mikuni for it. A few questions; 1. Would it be possible for someone to confirm what jets should be in the amal carb? *EDIT* the jets in my Amal Carb are pilot ~ 30; Main ~ 145; Slide ~ 35; Needle ~ ? (was in the middle setting of 3) 2. I got the bike with the Mikuni carb on it, it tick over and revs out with this carb on it, but when its under load - ie. just setting off in 1st gear - it starts to die, like fuel starvation. Are the…

  12. My clutch is not very grabby, and at the last competition, towards the end, it made a whining juddering noise when put under stress. So I took it apart, and the friction plates actually look good. However, the two outer friction plates are completely dark brown, while the four inner friction plates were light brown, with green in between the friction material (i.e., they seem to have been manufactured differently, see pic below). My question is, is this normal, and if not, what are the recommended friction plates? I had read on this forum that the OEM friction plates on the 2005 were not very good, and that those on the 2006 and later on were better, as Montesa figure…

Took the silencer off my (new to me) '98 315r yesterday and it rattled. Looking in at the front end I can see the inner perforated tube but it's not connected at either end and has dropped down into where the packing used to be! Presuming it is actually meant to be connected to each end piece I'm guessing the old tube has corroded/broken. Anybody know if the tube is straight or does it curve inside the silencer? Also, is it possible to get replacements?

Hello to all, Just yesterday I have become a proud owner of 09 4rt repsol. As we still have some snow outside I still haven't try it. It is in fare good condition and I am very satisfied with the look. My last and first trial bike was Scorpa which was from my point of view a grate start bike. Now after reading some forums I am little afraid that all I have learn will be lost with 4stroke. Have read that is hard bike for learning! Would help if I could hear some experiances! One more help I need with maintenance and if there are any other tricks about it. What I should or shouldn't do? Just going to take some pictures and I will post them this afternoon. Grate th…

I need some help! Yesterday I have started my 4rt with a second kick. Just after few seconds I have to shut it down. After that it was impossible to start. Haven't tried later, I will try this morning. What is the procedure for that situation? Do I need that throttle reset? How it is done? Another thing is when I start cold engine and after few minutes put in to the gear it wants to start even with the clutch on. After few minutes it is ok. Is it normal that clutch is not 100% efficient until the oil gets working temperature, or it is problem with my clutch? Another thing is that some times when I am starting the engine I have a felling that the lever is sliping, like …
