Hello, I have a '99 monty 315r. I took off the ignition cover and removed the stator and pickup so I could beadblast and repaint it. The stator went back in no problem but i'm not sure of the correct placement of the pickup. The factory manual was no help. When I first placed it back in it was rubbing on the flywheel. I moved it some and no rubbing. The bike starts no problem but seems to have the timing advanced. Its really snappy and seems to be detonating a bunch when I back off the throttle to idle down. Right now i'm not sure if its the pickup position or an air leak. I had the cylinder off to have it replated and install new piston and rings. The snappiness wasn't …

Hi everyone. Im working on my front fork and have a few questions about re assembling it. First off on the spring leg im having trouble getting the guide bushing to sit down in its slot. Anyone have this issue before or have a solution. Its preventing me from getting the fork seal in. Second of all on the damper side im unsure what position i should have the pipe when i measure the air gap. Ive set it with the fork leg down. Next step on the damper leg is to tighten the top cap but again im not sure what position to have the inner for pipe. When i close the cap with the fork compressed it works like a negative air spring making it hard to extend the fork leg. Whe…

I am hoping someone can enlighten me on the workings of the Cota 247 swingarm, it seems like a dumb question but it is different from any other bike on which I have worked. Inside the swingarm, where it meets the frame, on either side, there is a threaded insert inside of a rubber bushing, a body fit bolt is then inserted through the frame to hold the swingarm in place. Once tightened down the swingarm is locked in place and does not appear to be free to pivot or move. So my question is how does the swingarm then travel through the movement of the suspension? Does it just move with what little flex the rubber will allow, sort of like a torsion system? Or is there someth…

The Cota 247s don't seem fashionable in twinshock trials but it's about time I got mine (a Mk4) running so can people who are using them tell me what sprockets/gearing they're using? cheers.

I have a 2017 4Rt with about 60 hour on it. At the end of a ride after making a two wheel landing (solid landing but no major crash or anything), the engine started making an odd ticking noise - sounded a bit like the kickstart was engaging. After it cooled (next session), the sound had gone, so I rode an hour session with no noise. Then after another 2 wheel landing (hop from a 1 foot ledge), it started up again. Loud at first then dies off. After it cooled, sound gone. Recently changed oil filter - maybe 2 hours ago. Otherwise no works to speak of... Anyone has any thoughts?

My 315R will not turn off if the engine is revving at high rpm with the kill switch. It works OK at lower rpms. Any ideas? Thanks.

The symptons, 2003 cota 3 turns out and my motor knocks possible fuel starvation. 4 turns out and she turns my plugs dark after 4 hours of riding. This all happens after a well cleaned carb. My jets are 110, 60 and 33. I run premium gas 80:1 Is there much affect by raising the needle or lowering? Help!

I've got a new 6mm bashplate ready to fit, bought off H&D racing on fleebay. Looks like a great improvement The instructions suggest tightening the front bolts on a bit, then lining up the rears. Thing is, the angle of the front of the plate is such that the rear bolts are about 1/2 and inch off. The 6mm metal doesnt want to bend at all. How on earth do i bend it in to place? How should i angle the bike when working on it? Lie it on its side? Any ideas guys? Jza

I recently bought a 315 (1999 Model) The bike was running when I bought it but will not start now. It has been standing for a while but has fuel in the carb. I have removed the spark plug & can see there is no spark. The kill switch wiring does not look original but buzzes out for continuity. Sounds electrical. Does anyone have any test data for the stator assembly or is there any checks I can try on the CDi unit. I am not a 2 stroke expert but am an engineer, I was hoping the staying on the bike would be the problem, not getting it going. Any help please Geoff Abraham

Still struggling with my 315. It just wont go. I have fresh fuel, a spark, the plug gets wet so sure fuel is present. From reading here I suspect the compression may be low. I have measuured it at 145psi. Does anyone have a figure of what it should be. It is possible to turn the engine over by grabbing the flywheel by hand & rotating the engine. Is this normal. Tripple X says you cant do this with his Bultaco. Any comments please. Geoff

Hello, I'm having issues with the clutch on my 348. Firstly, it slips if I kick it through a compression, so to start it I use the decompressor to get it to TDC and give it a kick from there, that works. I tried adjusting it to give me enough bite to enable it to be kicked straight through, this worked, and then to test if it was now dragging, I put the front wheel against a fence (it's a good job), and knocked it into gear, even with the clutch pulled in fully, the rear spun. After a lot of adjusting whilst it was firmly stuck against the fence, I've adjusted it so the clutch drag is bearable, I can't move the bike backwards in gear, but it doesn't move forwards on i…
