Dan, if you let the Lysol sprayed helmet ( and all the other stinky protective gear ) on the shelf or outside when possible, there is no residual smell. It would also drive me crasy.

Timing and carb. , a 78 should be equipped with a Mikuni carb normally reliable, but if it's worn out it can mean trouble. I run my B model with the carb a LITTLE on the lean side, I insist little. from memory I setup the timing at 3.2mm BTD. Also I ran for a long time with a 0.005 inch tick head gasket, now back to original.

I tried to bring someone I know to a TS competition that I attend with my modern bike ( everybody is welcome ), he does not want to come. I finally found why: He checked trials comp on Youtube and can not relate to the sport. I keep telling him that '' our sport '' is completely different from what he saw on the net, he still think he will make a fool of himself. We went for a ride together, he should have understood seeing me ride that our meeting are more 1975 related but the damage is done.
Tony Bou is a wizard the other top 10 are still in Ogwart and trying to catch up, so, please make trials for ordinary people, and bring the best to show there talent maybe we will have more riders at our events and less riders that ride alone thinking they are not good enough

When I bought my 15 Sherco, I found it nervous and I felt the first gear '' too long ''. I change the rear sprocket from 40 to 42t. I'm now more confortable in slower section and I feel more control with the throttle. You might think the opposite since the gearing in shorter, but it did the job for me.

I had 2 ride on a EM lately and I could not get confortable on it. The clutch is, for me, a must. I'm not an expert and I don't want to start a war with the EM owners, but way the Yamaha rider use the clutch make me think that the transition to electric for me is definitely with one.

I run Shell Ultra, I empty the hose in my pickup and fill a 20 litre can that I mix with Motul 710 also at 80 to 1. I think the Shell is the same in Ontario as here in Quebec.

I just made the first oil change on my ST 250 15 since I bought the bike used, the book says 450ml ( that's what I added ) but I drained out close to 600 ml. Was it over filled or am I wrong in the quantity I added? The bike ran well before the oil change, no problem with gear change and clutch operation.

Dan I've never seen the parts you are modifying but from the drawing you just posted, would'nt it be simpler to machine the shoulder of holding pin so you could slide the spring further in and compensate with a washer outside the indexer ?
I have followed your thread with a lot of interest since the beginning, I tip my hat to your patience and the fact you share your find.

Where did you get that mount, and can you post a closeup picture, I've bought a 1 liter fuel bottle, but I have not yet figure where to install it.

The footrest position on that 250 is exactly where I fitted mine. I like them there and the bike work well for me. The most important thing is it work well for me

Any crank rebuilding shop should be able do the job quickly on a single cylinder motor but, if someone '' played '' around and bent the end of the crank trying to take the flywheel off, that's another story.

I have never seen a TY TS piston like that.

I looked for a long time for an oversize TY mono piston in Canada and the US, I found a 3rd os with ring that if i remember cost me $215.00 US I still have it on the shelve even if I sold the bike. I think it's a relic.

That's what I did with my levers, the reason I did it was to help me with control. It worked for me.

Now that you feel confortable and relax on the bike, practice is fun, so improvement come easy.

Hang on there, bread slowly look at the bike and make the adjustment that feel right for you and find a place to practice where you can ride until you are confortable. If the bike still scared you after say 4 or 5 hours of practice, than rethink your options.
