  1. seems the in thing to do ,seen graham tales on his 2rt honda ,both look really well put together ,don't think you could build the yamagas for 2k,projects can be money pits.
  2. trust me cycling is not cheap ,entry's for events are usually more pricey than a trial,while you can buy a cheap bike most sports bikes out there are into £1000 +,but many are getting bikes on c2w schemes ,imagine getting the trials bike at a discounted price,sports do peak and trough in popularity bmx was massive in the 80's and 00's and at the moment dead on it's feet,mountain biking has peaked and sales have fallen ,sports bikes are the fashionable thing at this time but for how long.many of my mates are getting into sailing. certainly in the east midlands /yorkshire i'd say entry's are pretty good especially the novice/beginer events (around a 100 entry's),if any thing the harder events scare many away. one or two better riders are trying enduro's as extreme events seem to appeal ,but entry's are again not cheap. as for the world round ,many things put me off attending ,the weather ,the drive up and it was at penrith yet again , you would put your house on who was going to win,which kind of ruin's it for me.
  3. when was the gear oil changed as my 300 was much better when the oil was kept fresh.
  4. think they top it up usually just for a few minutes.i've had a brief ride on chris's bike and was shocked how good it was .

    How Hard?

    hi, there is just a single route,regs are out november or therabouts,keep an eye on the ssdt website. the ballot is still there so you just have a to take your chances. if i lived down south i would try and ride some more northern trials which have terrain thats more rocky,dave rowland and wainwright trials would be good starters as there normally quite rocky streams etc and entrys will soon be out. any club trials in the richmond area will be good as well but a bit of a trek for you.

    How Hard?

    having ridden a number of years up scotland i would agree it is a very hard week ,the better your standard of riding the easier it is.i would always tell the locals in my area that you really needed to be in the first 3rd in the results of the 50/50 clubmen results (harder clubmen route) before having a go ,this would seem about right as a few of the local riders of lower ability have retired on the first day in previous years.i personally would have a go at the reeth 3 day trial which has a clubmen route (no walk in the park) and if you got on ok have a go at scotland ,loch lomond 2 day may be worth a go as well ,similar events but a little less time on the bike and maybe more enjoyable. last year and this could be me getting old but i think sections were harder and longer(bit of a race at times) and a few more big sections which would be daunting for a lower standard rider,it definetly not an easy holiday event and if you enter be well prepared ,as the weather can be horrific. all that said i still love the event ,will no doubt enter again and a few days in question my sanity. if it's on your bucket list do it soon as it gets tougher as you get older and as others have said prepare your self and the bike well. good luck
  8. you would see an odd trials bike at ride off road events ,at some of the extreme events a trials bike may well be quicker(for normal humans) ,as it's easier to keep going in the nasty stuff and lift if you get stuck.seem to remember michael brown been pulled out of the tough one as he looked like causing an upset. personally i think a fast hare /hounds would kill a trials bike as if it's easy a enduro is much quicker.
  9. i think you would pay £300 /£400 for a used sidecar ,i put one on an evo and it's been a laugh ,not the easiest of things to ride and you will need a spring on the rear shock as well
  10. hi ,i'm considering getting a pod or cti brace after struggling with a knee injury .Has any one used these for trials ,do they help. i seem to sometimes have problems if i dab on a angle step and push.Any one tried some ? what works? cheers
  11. at club level it's not easy to set routes ,many decent riders who are o40 class feel a bit trapped ,low scores on 50/50 club route or maybe kill your self on the hard route,if i dropped 40 on the middle route there would be some big scores further down the entry,could be one reason why a few buy a twin shock.bit more of a challenge and not the big jumps and steps..really a no win ,what ever the organisers do you will upset someone.
  12. clubman/middle route to hard route is the biggest problem as it is a big jump in severity and when it goes wrong you get hurt. trouble is many 040 and some clubmen are still very good riders and some must get fed up of older ex experts winning every week on very few marks when the rest are dropping cricket scores....i really don't know the anserw to this problem,when you go up north the clubmen is like the hard route at many clubs and expert is like btc expert route,you'll never please everyone.just ride what you feel happy with as many do...hence super novices
  13. think they'll be using your van and an awning this year,andy.... luckily it's a 4rt so you won't need that many spares,can sell you a spare bike just in case if your worried.
  14. thanks for the replys,i tend to be mostly ok ,but if i have a tough day working or 2 or 3 days riding it will sometimes swell up,don't really like to get by on pain killers and if i knock it i can barely walk. trouble is i love tougher trials and enduro's so i think i'll have to try the doctors again or look into seeing a consultant. thanks all again.
  15. if you have damaged the thread on the bolt nearest the fuel tank(in the main frame) be careful as if you drill to far you could end up with a fuel leak.
  16. quite a few riders have had knee injurys ,some related to twist's etc,i am getting to the point where if i ride a hard national level event it is giving a lot of pain and is getting noisy ,clicking etc. i have been to a dotor's i the past and feel i was fobbed off and was told it's not that bad,trouble is work and hobbies are all contributing to making this worse and worse. so has anyone had a minor knee op ? did it improve things or make them worse? how long was you off the bike/work.(self employed get little time off) is the purhase of a knee brace worth while? don't really want to do less riding as doing less cycling/trials etc as it tends to make me put weight on making things worse still. got a few muti day events this year and really want to finnish them if possible. thanks

  19. for long distances i'd buy a mont as the fact it feels a bit heavier is less of a problem,tended to use my mont for the scott and ssdt as it's great on the moors and road.
  20. resale value and build honda.... if your going to ride it ,the beta as i think it ride's much better.the beta is well built as well. got both but not yet tried a 2014 yet.
  21. i'd say the 300 4t is has as much power as a 300 2 stroke just the power seems longer and more linear,i think it's easy to ride as well,the 250 i rode felt a bit flat to me but i've only had a short ride on a 250.
  22. beta 300 has quite a bit more go than the 250 ,,and i think has'nt got the throttle lag of an older 4rt ,i've got a mont and a beta and both are excellent bikes and given a little time you should find both are good.couple of friends have tried the mont and struggled and since bought betas that there both happy with. also beta has more lock on steering and the mont has better suspension.....take your choice.
  23. hi,how much stiffer is the shock from falcon ,do you think a spring which is a bit heavier would do the job?building a evo 4t at the minute.
  24. fastest bike on the road as standard and does it easy,managed to delaminate my back tyre when i was late one year,i'd get a hebo fork aux tank and carry a litre in a bag,get you a few miles.certain mine was doing 60 mph+ when needed.
  25. i had something similar on mine,which turnedout to be a blockage wher the fuel comes into the carb,you would have to remove the float and another bit behind this mine was really blocked so on more revs it's was in effect running out of fuel,so was cutting out then coming back in ,it would tick over all day.have a look as i know most won't take thi bit apart.
