  1. Remember the simple things like the fuel tank not venting properly, and or the floats sticking. Both common problems on old iron.
  2. Bikes as new came with three restrictor plates. The pipe, middle silencer and air box. Just remove.
  3. A 9 or 10 tooth counter shaft sprocket is the quick fix.
  4. Hitting your knee vs ripping your knee is quite different. See a Doc. (usually something like that is preferable than an acl etc.) Good luck and keep riding! A quality knee brace is usually for the ripped and torn.
  5. There is a piece of the inner case that could break off that holds the spring.
  6. Usually center case halves are sold in sets so it will be an expensive fix even with the standard cases. The kick start gear coming apart is a common problem.
  7. Wow, just interesting to listen to complaints from a few owners that think the grass is greener across the road. Must be a moisture related problems as almost all complaints are from the UK. All bikes have thier own problems , but as stated before the numbers in the scottish speak for themselves. I`ve only ridden Beta`s since `89 and never had an electrical fault. Leaky carb yes, but also never had to split the cases either! I`d look into the advice of notched stator covers and or vented breathers as used in `vintage` bikes.
  8. Remove skid plate. The oil drain is on the right side of the engine. It should be an allan type.( Never remove the bolt on the left side of the bike as that is the detent and or kickstart spring unless you are removing k/s and shift shaft.) The fill is on top of the engine beside the carb and is quite ackward to get to. The manual calls for 1000cc, the small screw on the clutch cover is the level check.
  9. standard nut , left to loosen.
  10. `93 should have gone to a case induction and the previous years were not.
  11. his plates have swelled so the tolerance on the fingers are out of spec. try a search on this forum for pro clutch problems , your owners manul or a friendly wrench. An upgrade to the newer clutch pak would be the best solution if he is planning to keep the bike awhile.
  12. New Mexico usually is the shortest drive to any events. try nmtrials.org
  13. Do I dare say the current Montesa status in the US could be considered a little bleep. Sherco rides easier, Beta is the better equipment. Sherco would probably be better to learn on. Any way all the newer bikes are great. Might look more at who your local dealers are. Just go have fun.!!

    Canon City?

Just west of Pueblo Colorado, RMTA has several sites that include this years national. Their website is coloradotrials.org.
  15. The discovery is the only one you`ll find here. just remove the metal toe clips, and you have one of the best kept secrets in the trials world. Best made boot. Not quite as flexible, but top quality.
  16. If this is it it will do it hot or cold and change with the engine revs. I would still try to fix with searching for it. It would drive me crazy if I was riding it this way. And of course it could be something else entirely being a `pro` engine.
  17. Go in from kick start side. Message from No1 is correct, the metal chip usually comes from the crap kickstart gear and ends up wedged in the primary clutch ring gear. Makes a terrible noise, but nothing is really wrong just annoying.
  18. Just thought the coil usually grounds to the frame when bolted in. And the wiring harness to the switch and lights had three yellow wires that had to be connected, though could have been for the fan only. I would get rid of all the extra wiring for the lights etc. to remove all weak ponts of the system.
  19. If that is all the damage to the case then it could be minor. But cleaning out the small bits will be the challenge without causing further problems.
  20. Quite common for the clutch ring gear to pick up a stray piece of metal. Results in a bad tick which could sound like transmission gear or as bad as a rod knock. Inspect the ring gear tooth by tooth, might even need a magnify type glass to find as it bonds to the gear and very hard to see. Hope this is all that`s wrong, good luck.
  21. I`m trying to remember, yes it needs to be spread to both sides and use something besides your fingers. it can be a little akward, but as it comes out of the package thier would be no pressure.
  22. The `04 was the first year the pro was `good`. So being quality minded(not cheap). That would be the best year to start looking at. Good luck! I`ve enjoyed many a ride on the 300, but the `06 and 07 are quite a nice improvement. (but not as cheap)
  23. I`d pull off the mag cover, the exhaust and the carb and air box. If you still don`t have spark by this time. (just by a plug check). I would go ahead and pull the topend off remove any moisture and lube the crank so you don`t lose the bottom end bearings. I`ve lost my bikes twice in deep holes and they have always restarted after draining carb and air boxes. So if it didn`t restart I`d lube the internals up so you do not have the added problems of bad mains ETC, and so on.
  24. Yamaha Frank I was just thinking how ignorant people still are about services in the middle of nowhere. And yes it is the same person. Ron answered the question about the NATC bucking up, but why should they? 1 to 2days will not make any difference in the out come. I will talk to Bruce about Sipapu, I can make the internet work at any site. Just so happens to be what I do these days. Bob R.
