  1. First post is the way I like to show the newbies. If your bike has sat for a while the easy way to get it started is to lay it on it`s side till you have fuel coming out the the over flow. This should prime the engine and start first or second kick. I this does not work you might need to clean the carb, pilot jet is probably plugged up. I like to throw in some language for the spectators.
  2. You have to show the bike who`s the boss. Make sure the petrol to the on position. After ten kicks, throw it to the ground in disgust. Jump up and down on it, yelling `piece of sh?t, piece of sh?t!!` Then pick it up and it will start with in two kicks. Works 99% of the time.
  3. Before they gave you a new one, it should have been taken apart. Chances are it is a easy fix of one end just being loose. It is the type of noise that will drive you crazy while riding. It could be missing the rubber at the outlet end.
  4. Bigfoot is spot on. I`m working on a `06 300 which had the same problem. New shift shaft, a few gaskets. Trouble is you have to split the cases.

    Tire Choices

Dunlaps are great if seated. The only tube type avaialble are IRC. Nice choice of bike!
  6. Wow, the ACU does not take in for size of the kid. My 11 year old is 5` 8` and 160 lbs. He out grew an 80 when he was 10. By the time he`s 13 he will be 6`. Rules by age never made much sense.
  7. Most of the modern bikes, the stands are tucked away pretty good. I used to always remove them if it could cause some points or poorly made.
  8. We are still having a trials event in Albuquerque, just not AHRMA. Not sure of all the reasons on both sides, but a friend has stepped up to be trialsmaster. And he didn`t have to coax too hard to get me to join in the fun. I might even ride my `81 since it is not AHRMA rules!
  9. The first post from motovita is probably your best solution. With the bike delivered on it`s side the crankcase can fill with fluid. Either find the crankcase drain or remove the plug and exhaust. Do not kick over with the plug out or cap off as many a bike has caught fire this way.
  10. They usually can be welded, and I assume you threw a chain to break it?

    Over Heating

Chances are yes you cut toomuch out. try ,http://www.gasgas.com/Pages/Technical/Electrics/wiring-kokusan-96-2000.html . I can`t quite remember but it seems there was a spot in the harness that three yellow wires had to stay attached, maybe someone else will help?
  12. I would try a new set of pads before any thing else.
  13. If you have a shop or garage close by a bearing removal tool is the correct method. Basically it pulls the bearing itself out by the middle. They are reasonable at 100 to 150 us dollars. Which if you own it and a avid rider it would pay for itself.
  14. Official count at the last New Mexico event was 106 riders which might be a club record. We even were missing about 15 riders who rode the last event. Now a days it looks more like a national than a club trials. In fact we have too many new riders as our use permits top out at 80. Our succes comes from the fact that most families in our club camp for two -three nights at each event. We`ll have a total of 15 events with 6 events being two day events.
  15. Sounds like it just broke off. Back in `02 they were leaving the bolt out for more oil flow?!? So it really has nothing holding it in place but all the other parts being aligned in a small space. I would not worry about it.
  16. Did you leave the petcock on? Is the plug wet now. Might just be flooded.
  17. You did not mention the year. Some times 12 to 16 0z off the flywheel will waken it up a little.

2001 national was at the same location, and we had a fine bike toss. A month or two ago was a link that had a Fantic section as the bike of choice this year!

Someone needs to try and get a picture on here of the bike toss saturday night. Crazy tradition taking a running motorcycle and crash it off a small cliff for entertainment!!
  20. It does look alot like a flywheel off a mid 80`s TY.
  21. Have you cleaned the carb and checked the pilot jet? The knock could just be a lean condition from a blocked or too small of jet. It will also fix your idle problem.
  22. You left out a few variables on what you are looking for. Skill level, mechanical appitude,(since you are a long way from a dealer). And are you going to compete or have long days just having fun!
  23. The only manual was a basic owners manual with capacities and normal maintenance. No service manual. You might try a search on this forum as this has been asked for before.
  24. You might try replacing the top hat and shift spring. They are usually sold together and it`s cheap.
  25. It has been too long to remember, but you will have to loosen and maybe remove a few. The sequence was like every 4th one. Good luck with the stuck nipples.
