  1. From the sounds of it, I would be more concerned about the water pump and fan. Was it a full rebuild with mains, seals, and rod?
  2. Pinging is just jetting and/or fuel issues. All the rev 3`s ran great with a little attention. Squish was not an issue unless at high elevation.
  3. You obviously don`t get it. All he is saying is the human kickstand is not in anyway riding in control of your motorcycle. This is why it is so hard to explain the rules to new people. All this is Foreign to the `new` riders in the last two decades. How dare we suggest that you lousy riders get a five in every section, cuz you are not riding. Otherwise your feet would still be on the pegs!
  4. Probably lost in translation. Huge difference to the top of the head vs the cylinder.
  5. Yes, the packing should have been replaced when the seals were done.
  6. Too much play in the main bearings will cause the seals to leak. But while he is taking it apart I would make sure the seal is new and properly seated.
  7. Well if you really feel the need to do it, it`s a good time of year to waste some time. Once you do it you feel confident to fix about anything in the future. First off leave the motor completely assembled in the frame. This will give you more leverage to get everything apart. Do the flywheel and stator first. Then everything off from the clutch side. The hardest thing and this point will be primary gear on the crankshaft. Take lots of pics and be organized about it. Do not take off the top end, untill you are ready to remove the motor. Now go watch as many u tube vids as you can. Cut up an old inner tube into 4 small strips to hold the transmission togerther once you have split the motor. It really is not hard to take it apart. Remember to always have the transmission in nuetral while splitting the cases and assembling the cases. What fun you are going to have!
  8. Having to have it redone again is really silly. Have you ever split a motor before?
  9. I would take the m/c off the line. Bleed it, and re attach. If the master is any good it will self bleed from. there.
  10. Go to a 48 pilot jet. The stock main should be fine. You are killing your exhaust an early death at 40 to 1 unless you are road racing.

    Won't rev?

Is the plug wet right away. Sounds to me like the bottom end is flooded. Happens all the time!
  12. That is a great picture of the effort it took to get those bikes through the old style sections. No clutch, or brake work and barely any suspension. Just body English and determination. RIP.
  13. TRS might be closer.
  14. Sure the stators did go out now and again. However most of the time the main bearings had gone too. Grap a hold of the flywheel and check for play while you are at it.
  15. First off you have a spring and ball acting as a detent to keep the shift drum aligned. That is the first thing to check.
  16. It happened. Yesterday while out working on sections, I shifted up to second and went up a large rock wall and just after my rear tire cleared the top. Damn thing popped into nuetral while I was still on a steep hill and down I went. I blame it on a lazy shift. Worse thing I knew it was a poor shift.
  17. Just imagine a Gas Gas with a reliable transmission.
  18. That was a great update for gassers. I always used atf, but that gm auto trac was really good and 3 times more expensive And I have always used ATF in my Betas since 1990.
  19. Multi plates. And I fix clutch drag with shims and different springs. The ATF is for hooking up quicker. Or you could buy the Beta Racing clutch for crazy money.
  20. It all depends on what terrain you ride. We ride large dry rocks, you need it to hit now! Most bike oil makes the Gasser lethargic. Different oil makes it progressive to the point it is too slow. But in the right terrain, (wet and muddy) it might be perfect.
  21. Faussy, and I run 10/40 motor oil in my Allison transmission instead of ATF for the same reason. Because it works better for what I use it for. Manuals are just a guide, not the last word on a subject.
  22. Over the years I have broke a few brittle Beta fenders, as I got my first Beta in 1990. But my current 2016 Factory rear fender has somehow survived multiple hard crashes. I`d say the current fenders are just fine. Too much talking and not enough riding these days.
