  1. I had my first mountain bike event in the 80's so that isn't a factor for sure. What worries me more than anything is the debate we are having no stop/stop feels to me like we are fiddling while Rome burns. Without question the WTC and to a lesser extent the BTC is failing in some eyes, and I have yet to see a reasoned argument with evidence that no stop is the panacea to our troubles at this or any other level. More importantly the importer lead change to rules seems unreasnoble, not fully debated and fundamentally flawed in their logic, completly untried and untested. Perhaps as a sport and industry we are too close to the problems and the recession has simply amplified the defects within. Possibly instead of tinkering with the rules the importers should look closely at themselves and see what to me is obvious, a lack of new riders. Perhaps if they were to produce a decent modern day ty 80, and knock it out for the loss leader it should be, we could get young bums on seats and save our sport, whatever the rules. I own a gas Gas 50 for my children, and with a minor mod to the "moped" engine its a cracking modern little bike to have fun and learn the sport we love on. Why cant the importers/factories get together to produce this typeof thing for a good price and try to solve the lack of sales?

  3. Everyone is entitled to there opinion on our lads but never say never for any of them, and certainly dont make them disadvantaged by the rules in only 6 events. Looking at the current riders they are all an ageing bunch, Dougie has dropped out nearly Fuji is on the way down cabas and Raga also, so the chance might be there in 3 years for any of our lads. They need help and support to compete, not a rule change unless someone can convince the spaniards its a good thing it goes no stop.
  4. selling the bike with dellorto
  5. yep did it thought it was a fair bit better standard this year. have it in garage
  6. A fair vote doesnt mean a fair result,if the division is 50/50 or even 60/40(as straw poll on here might suggest) it wouldnt be acceptable to alienate one half of our small sport. If say 40% are against the no stop for everyone how would the importers benefit from less riders if a few dropped out? The btc is not just for the 6, usually there is nearer ten. Where do the importers think trials is unapproachable? Every club trial I've ever been to peeps are friendly and helpful? the top route is for a few agreed but there is always the other entries which at most events is over subscribed, if it has the entries why is the btc a problem? To my thinking the recession, lack of ACU promotion and publicity, an extra days costs for the "practice lap", high entry fees and simple travel costs have all added to the decline. Plus the fact that the top lads are forever getting further away from the start up skill of the beginner, regardless of which rules you have. How one extra rider will join our sport by forcing a change on six events escapes me.
  7. What about a test event run on btc new rules with all the organisers so the standard of sections observing etc etc can be tried out, maybe a revive the british experts to show whats allowed and so on. With a trial event problems could be ironed out and a consistent level of observing established ???? Also if new riders or more riders want to have a go they could see the standard of sections they might be asked to ride? why are British roumds so expensive to enter?

  9. it is only a brilliant move if it works. If the wtc is no stop , fine if its not then the top lads wont support it. This year we had Jack challoner in italy and dougie not competing yet they both were in the tdn team? Perhaps alongside the rule changes the tdn team should be the top 4 btc?
  10. So one route only, how would dibs loose marks yet the bottom lads from the 3rd route not get maximums?
  11. i just cant see where the extra entries will come from, moreover will a few lads prefer spain or italy if they are stop allowed?
  12. As long as the no stop supporters will accept at the end of 2012 that it hasn't made a jot of dofference to entries it could be a good experiment.
  13. no a simple system of timing could be devised, this is 2011 clocks and timing are simple devices and with thought could be easy to use, easier than punchcards.
  14. I didnt say anything about ex riders either but can understand you thought my first sentance inferred that. I meant riders who would come into the sport. I think that as the riders get into the sport they really struggle, and I'm sure it was rapley that said marking no stop at the bottom level means fives for a moments hesitation and can ruin a newbys day. My opionion is to impose one set of rules is draconian as there is (clearly) two camps, two sets of people that prefer strongly one set or the other. Me I dont mind, maybe its an age thing but I just love riding my bike, especially in the Richmond events looking down the dales on a sunny day and off down the becks is almost as good as sex. Then again my memories of the 4 days in France a few years back are among my happiest rides too, and thats stop allowed. For me its the events thats the important thing. Stop allowed at club and other levels where experts take too long is a big downside but not that difficult to cure. The wallace is a good point but specifically that trial has changed its section layout as well, not just the stop/no stop aspect. Besides the land is not as suitable as many others for a national trial and having helped stuart set that particular trial out I can assure you its the best of a bad job in places, and much easier to take marks with stop allowed. However again the queue thing is solvable.
  15. A plug on a trials bike should almost be a consumable imho, run it a few months then change. Always set the gap.
  16. who are the riders that are not riding now because its stop allowed? Is Joe bloggs suddenly going to go out and buy a second hand bike cos it goes no stop? In our club its stop allowed but the easy route is always set out no stop style so where are these mythical new riders coming from?
  17. PM me if you want. We have recently opened up a trials practice site in milton keynes and know a little about planning permission etc. Use a brownfield site if you want an easier path to success imho. is it a viability study or something you would attemt. NB trials riders are tight, and certain areas of the uk may be more "careful" with expenditure.
  18. Try nfu they are very helpful.
  19. Football number of substitutes, ditto rugby. Change of offside rule in footy. Golden goal. video replays in rugby and cricket. F1 changes its fundamental rules every year!etc etc
  20. The fact remains and I am only putting an alternative view, with no conviction, that the wtc would have moved on anyway and even if it had stayed no stop for the last 20 years whose to say we wouldnt still only have 10 competing cos its not viable for the rest? Its stop allowed now which is the preference for the french riders but we have lost a few who still ride a bit. Gibert and blazusiak have both moved on to enduro and away from trials why? Anyone who thinks no stop at btc or wtc level has some serious arguments to find as Ive never seen one which would increase numbers of riders at this level. But that isn't to say that no stop would have advantges, just cant see where the extra riders will come from. Fundamentally rather than this set of rules or that set we need discuss how to get more to take up the sport.
