I know some bikes are OK and some aren`t on premix. My old T500 had to use the autolube as the oil was fired directly onto bearings. Is premix ok on a TY80?

Hi, I am new on here and have just purchased a TY80 for my lad which is in very nice condition. The first of what will probably be many question is;- The rubbery plastic threaded cap for the crankcase oil filler does not incorporate a dipstick which I am guessing it should do as there does not appear to be any other way to check oil level. Should it have one? If so, do you check the level with it screwed in fully or just resting on the crankcase?

I have a Majesty 200 and want to improve the forks and fork action! I'm thinking about fitting a Pinky front end (with better forks) and a front disc brake. I already have a set of 175 yokes, which have been milled out to accept the larger diameter TY Mono stanchions Is that not really in the spirit of Twinshock (I see plenty of TLR's with a front disc!!) Any pitfalls, will I be excluded from the Twinshock classes? Would the forks from a TY250 Twinshock be a better bet than the 175 forks already fitted?? Questions.......................??? Alternatively is there anyone who could tune the 175 forks, to improve the spring rate and damping (not frightened to spend a b…

I think it is possible to fit a later mono electronic ignition to a twinshock TY250. Can anyone confirm if this is true and if it is a direct fit or is some engineering required.

Hello all ,I have a 1983 yamaha 250 mono and have landed the sumpgaurd on a rock which has pushed the flywheel cover upwards and snapped off the top two screw bosses,or at least its forced the 6mm allen bolts up through the bosses wrecking them. My question is are the crankcases alloy or are they magnesium i can get alloy welded and make new bosses to weld on but will struggle if they are magnesium.I dont want to bodge the job with metalfillers,so if anyone knows it cant be welded i shall start looking for new crankcases, yes i now know i should have just had a standard cover on not an after market job because they give a bit. many thanks for all future replies.

Been thinking of how many TY been sold during the period 84-92? *UK *US *Australia *tot Europe *Japan *Scandinavia Does any of you have an idea? I would go that far and guess its the most sold, reliable (and loved) production trials bike ever built. And by youtube we all can see whats possible to do with these bikes... Guess most of them would still be ready to race with basic TLC..most spares and lots of update knowledge available ..(mine were almost beaten to d, but now after a lazy rebuild she performs like a dream, std rear susp works perf -mod but unrebuild, have not done all available engine updates yet, ..well enough for me). In my opinion, thinking of a…
