I'm currently rebuilding a bantam D10a 4 speed engine and i've got a couple of problems.... 1. The 3rd / 4th gear selector fork keeps popping out of engagement with its dog. I'm pretty sure that the selector fork is damaged but it doesn't look like there is any breakage. I have (hopefully) attached a few pics to help explain the problem. Is the fork damaged or am I doing something else silly ? 2. I need to replace the bronze bushes in the final drive gear. Are there any hints or tips for this ?

Hi, anyone know which lucas model a 1953/4 redditch 350 bullet would use as my mag has no identity on it but i,m sure its lucas without the dynamo attached. Basically it has a fat blue spark and runs fine with a nice low tickover but when its hot the spark dissapears and re-appears at will and this is rather annoying (also sounds expensive ) . Its an anti-clockwise mag, also when the engine is running you cannot see an sparks on the points at all, is this normal? cheers Dave

Has anyone had the same problem as me when it comes to fitting a 13T g/box sprocket and a 420 chain, The chain will not sit down on the sprocket as it contacts with the seal and bearing housing. The crankcases are twin roller bearing and the only difference I can see from the old ones that got damaged is that they have two seals on the g/box sprocket while the old ones had only one, This makes the sprocket too close to the bearing housing which would cause the chain to wear away the seal lip. Anyone have any thoughts ?

tired of hitting the wrong lever on the cub after riding my beta . the cure would seem to be moving the brake lever over to the right, and using a cable instead of brake rod. anyone experience of this( did don smith do it on Greeves, was it done on bultacos'?) if so what should it look like or have you a picture. or can you reference or link a picture cheers yours in the garage..TS

What is the general consensus re heat dissipation. I am building a B175 engine for trials, I am using a modified Fantic 200 cyl head which has a larger finned area etc, they can get hot during trials in the warm months and they are centre plug head. On the Fantic they were black, just wondering is it best to paint or get blasted to bare ally. ?? I will be painting the barrel and using a Suzuki TS185 piston. Thanks in advance....

HI, I am considering making an alloy oil tank for my C15. It is in a B40 frame (I think) and currently has a bodged together "standard" steel oil tank. I would like to make a narrower tank with space for a re-routed air filter and neater and enclosed electrics. I have searched the forum and found lots of snippets of good advice but wondered if anyone could help me with some "first principles"? What should the minimum advisable capacity be? What is the best return route (can it enter high up or does it have to be a tube running up inside like the standard one?) What diameter tubes should be used at the return junction to cause the right amount of oil to spli…

Has anyone used Aspen fuel in Villiers engines and did you use Aspen 4 and use your own twostroke oil or the ready mixed Aspen 2 ? Was it better than pump fuel and was there a noticeable improvement ? I know its alot more expensive but is it worth it as I only use my bike a few time a year .

Hi folks, just a question for future sprocket alternatives. I have a motor which is B40 cases, with B44 crank and top end, 23 eng sprocket and 52 clutch....gearbox is 11 teeth with 55 on rear. I'm guessing standard side point motor gear box ratio's, but no clue realy. So bike handles sections in first gear reasonably well if not realy tight, and second good for hill climbs, so quite usable. Was just wondering if I went to a 18 tooth engine sprocket....I may be able to go up a tooth or two on the gear box and less teeth on the rear and shorter chain, and still lower the overall gearing slightly. Sounds feasable to me, but any input welcome. My biggest wor…

Hi, Can I encourage everybody to go along to the classic trials bike exhibition at Stonleigh at the weekend. I know that Charlie Prescott and Mick Andrews and many others have worked their "thingies" of to make this happen. Our sport during the 60's and 70's was a source of inspiration to many people, standard bikes and parts were modified into successful trials bikes, and many of these bikes will be there at Stonleigh. Look forward to seeing you there. pat.

Hi, I am looking for 2 x C15 gears to put in my Distributer type engine. Well actually I would like a complete wide ratio box for the bike but hens teeth are easier (and cheaper) to find!! I am looking for a 20T part No 40-3101 & 30T Part No 40-3100 These were fitted as 2nd gear in the wide ratio box. I have tried all the shops who advertise in Classic bike and Old bike mart hoping to find some NOS but no luck. Can anyone help? stephen.bird1@ntlworld.com
