I'm in the middle of rebuilding an M20 BSA engine for a customer.I bought a big end assembly made by Alpha in Dudley,(From another supplier)on assembling it I found it was going to need altering - because the flywheel tapers were badly machined in the flywheels themselves.(The conrod had too much side clearance with the previous big end) machining tapers is not an easy task but when I called Alpha they offered to sort it out for me so I posted it to them on monday at 4pm.It came back in the post today at 10am,with the requested 17thou removed,it now has 10thou of side clearance as it should. All done FOC. They didnt even charge me postage - the crank is now built up and t…

I have just fitted a Honda TL125 Kehein carb to my Tiger Cub, it runs OK on tick over but as soon as I roll of the throttle, after giving it some throttle! it pops back through the exhaust, at the moment its 98 main and 35 pilot, with the needle raised one from the bottom,do I need to go bigger on the main or raise the needle to the max! I thought that the TL 125 carb just bolted on with the standard jets and that was it. My Cub is the 250cc Serco conversion.

Looking at rotating kickers for C15 or Cubs with the clevis pin type mount, everything I see is massive looking steel mounts. Would a similar massive aluminium (6061) mount be adequate? I suspect there is some reason I do not see them in aluminium. Thanks!!

Hi, Will kindly ask if any of you do know the mesaurements of threads at the back end of Amal MK1 body? I do need to extend the rear end of the carb by ~3" (have seen such solutions somewhere, made of nylon..on a Bantam) Do you think any tube ( for other assemby..?) with matching threads inside is available? I might can use a std part, Polished Alloy Bellmouths, but dont know if its perfect to seal the air boot to a chone. BR,

  11. I have a 1962 C15 that I am converting to trials, I have junked the worn concentric carb and have bought an Amal 622 and a 1.5" long inlet manifold extension, it will be running PVL. Is anyone else running a 622 on a C15 and can they tell me what jetting they use and what needle position they find best?

Many British bikes fitted with the Amal carburettor use a round screw on air filter which usually has either a paper or gauze filter element. Which type is best though, some of the gauze ones look rather poor (you can see straight through them) the paper ones I suppose may get wet when it rains via the holes in the metal outer so which type is the better option?

Just fitted an Amal stay up float kit to the concentric carb on my bike but now it floods as soon as the fuel is switched on, have tried to lower the float level as well as checking the viton tipped float needles operation but without effecting a cure. Any ideas please.

Hi, I have a 1961 BSA C15 with an Amal MK1 carb. The bike runs ok but you have to be very gentle when you open the throttle from tickover or it will stall and it is a bit lumpy on 1/4 throttle. The carb is a 622. 3 1/2 slide. needle on middle groove. 110 main jet. 105 needle jet. Pilot air screw about 3/4 turns out. Pilot bush fitted, I believe this is a 25. The plug is black, not wet and never fouls (touch wood) Will be grateful for any advice or opinions. Cheers.

  20. Started by wallo,

Has anyone tried one of these new carbs from AMAL yet, if so how do they perform? I need to get a carb sorted for the new Ariel 500cc short stroke project and was wondering whether to go with one of these rather then spend ages tweaking a Villiers. If anyone has tried one of these on an Ariel, any chance you could let me know the jetting? Thanks all
