General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by felixdamouse,

hi, just signed up as im looking for a trials bike. I am a motocross racer and have just broken my back just over a week ago so mx is out of the window for atleast this season. so i am looking to buy a trials bike to gain fitness and build muscle (also to improve my balance etc) something around £1500 max. I never have had a trials bike so am totally new to it. I have a couple of questions. A. what bike to buy (prob a 250) but what make? (i know this will bring up a wide range of answers but i want to see what the opinions are. b, are some better made than others? c, what to watch for when buying a second hand trials bike (prob same as an mx bike) and also i said 2…

I'm not a novice to bikes, having raced motocross for 25 years, but am certainly completely new to Trials having never lifted a leg over a Trials bike. So, in my quest to find a decent second hand machine I have come across a 2009 Sherco 290 that someone local to me owns and has genuinley never used so it's as good as new. Looks great, sounds great and seems to ride fine given the short pootle up and down his driveway. i'm very tempted as will be a genuine bargain but my concern is that it will just be too much bike for my zero Trials experience. My plan will be to practice for a few months and then enter a few club trials - i certainly have no plans for World …

We need to give this old feet up nonsense a bit of re branding. Trials ? the general public think Trail and then associate it with MX. Last week I was assured that a lad at the wee boys school was mad keen on Trials found out he had a KTM. Today setting out another lad appeared on the hill having been told about our wee club from a friend I've known about 15 years, he had a KX 125. Any suggestions?

I have wasted ages on the ACU website trying to renew my membership for 2023, with no success. Anyone else having issues? Thoughts on the new ACU website?

April 27th 1979 a lad, or lass for that matter could buy a TMX news for 18p and catch up on what's happening in the world of trials, long way from getting the results and gossip as it happens on the internet, but a black and white TV was still common in most households. Well in this issue, you could buy a new Bult from your dealer for 879 quid including the dreaded vat. You got twice as much iron for your money, two shocks twice the fuel capacity and twice the weight of today's scoots, but not much else has changed. Two young lads were tops at Waterside. Bultaco mounted Steve Saunders won the fourth round of the ACU's trials championship, the 14 yr old trailing An…

Just got done with knee surgery and am getting a set of asterisk knee braces for riding my woods bike. I was wondering if anyone has worn braces on their trials bike, and if they are too confining or bulky.

The last rear tire I bought for my 2015 Sherco was a Dunlop 803 GP rear and I still run the original Michelin front, it's time to refresh them. Here is a list of what's avalable in the area : Rear Dunlop K950, Geomax TL01 and D803GP - Michelin Comp - IRC TR-11. Front Michelin Light and Heidenau K67 ( never heard of that ). What is your experience

When signing on at a trial and the number 13 is offered, how many refuse to take it. Personally speaking I have no problem with riding number 13 and on the contrary think I actually ride better.

Hi guys, i have been given the ultimate incentive for my exams, if i pass them all my dad buys me a brand new 2005 bike of my choice and a trailer to go with it, im looking into a Sherco, but my fear is that the old man goes all out, buys me the bike and the main bearings go!!! if i bought the bike brand new and asked the company to fit new bearings in it before the bike is even trialed how much do you reckon it would cost??? Is there anything else i would need to watch out for on them??? Cheers Guys Chris

Just got back from a week in Disneyland with the wife and kids, had a great time well worth it. This is a picture from the balcony of our room, a world class section to look at all week, the river raft ride down the section was quite the ride too.

So, this weekend is my first proper trial. Nothing special, just a local club putting on a local trial. Thing is, I don't know which route to pick. We run 3 routes - expert, A and B obviously in that difficulty order. I've got the skill to ride the A route but I've never had practice with flags and often get confused which way to go whilst in the mindset of doing a proper trial. I was thinking of doing the B route just to get used to the markers but am worried I will be bored as its to easy for me. I only get confused as they use the format of red being on the right and blue on the left. Sometimes there are yellow ones thrown in there aswell to mark routes which hav…

I've got a couple of fields which haven't made any money for years, I was thinking about digging a few holes etc to use it for a bit of trials practice. The smaller field is 6 acres in size, it is fairly flat with no trees or natural hazards, so I would have to change the appearance of the land. (If it was any flatter, it would be a football pitch, if you get my drift.) Has anyone any experience with doing this sort of thing? I would appreciate any thoughts on the matter. ie planning problems, insurance, compensation concerns etc. Basically, is it worth the effort?

I have been trying to come up with a simple cost effective, reusable way of marking section and course. The material is corrugated plastic sign sheet and two foot ceiling hanging wire, price per sheet of plastic Is $16 for an 8ft x 4ft sheet and the wires are $9 per 100 bundle, cost in material per marker is app 20 cents each. Sheets and colors can be changed, I used what I had around. Which would you choose of the samples posted ?. Sample one delta with stick on class labels.
